What do you think of the PMRC?
I think that most of you know who the PMRC is. If you don't does this look familiar?
The PMRC are the people who put those things on CD Albums that have explict content.
What do you think of them? I don't like them, they accused Van Halen of promoting satanism/drug use! And Iron Maiden, Styx, Rush, Pink Floyd, Kiss and Queen!! (WTH?)

The satanism thing is BS to 10th degree. However, there's an old saying associated with rock music. "drugs, sex, and rock n roll" all those songs include that to a degree, but just because they use it in the music doesn't mean you have to use or too. Although I'd imagine Sublime to be even better when stones, but I can't sag that for sure...

F, is for fighting, R is for red
Ancestors' blood in battles they've shed
E, we elect them, E, we eject them
In the land of the free and the home of the brave
D, for your dying, O, your overture
M, will cover your grave with manure
This spells out FREEDOM, it means nothing to me
As long as there's P.M.R.C

I have nothing against rating content so people know if what they're getting is kid friendly. For instance, I am completely okay with the MPAA's film rating system. However, the PMRC didn't aim to simply put warning labels on records. The organization believed that rock/metal had serious negative influences on society and wished to not only warn but to censor.
If they fully had their way,
1) The recording industry would "renegotiate contracts" with artists who's works ended up too sexual/violent. Music artists who disagreed with the PMRC would be out of a job.
2) TV stations would not be able to play "explicit" music content -- no matter what hour, no matter if the station objected.
Essentially, they aimed to eliminate freedom of speech. However, even though the PMRC was somewhat influential in the 80s, it (luckily) failed to accomplish is bigger objectives. We still have Parental Advisory stickers, which were brought about by their influence, but luckily that's as far as we took their suggestions.

Re: What do you think of the PMRC?
It's not like it restricts anyone from buying music. The only time it irritates me is when it messes with album art.

Re: What do you think of the PMRC?
Most of you guys are right, BTW they even have a "Filthy Fifteen", which is a list of 15 songs they found most objectional. (lolwut?):
1 Prince "Darling Nikki"
2 Sheena Easton "Sugar Walls"
3 Judas Priest "Eat Me Alive"
4 Vanity "Strap on Robbie Baby"
5 Mötley Crüe "Bastard"
6 AC/DC "Let Me Put My Love into You"
7 Twisted Sister "We're Not Gonna Take It"
8 Madonna "Dress You Up"
9 W.A.S.P. "Animal (Like a Beast)"
10 Def Leppard "High 'n' Dry (Saturday Night)"
11 Mercyful Fate "Into the Coven"
12 Black Sabbath "Trashed"
13 Mary Jane Girls "In My House"
14 Venom "Possessed"
15 Cyndi Lauper "She Bop"
I really disagree on We're Not Gonna Take It. But if you want to know the reasons look up PMRC in Wikipedia, I won't post them here since there are quite a few kids in this place.

That list is from 1985, so Korn obviously WOULDN'T be on there.

PMRC made the list in 1985. Korn didn't exist at that time.

Re: What do you think of the PMRC?
Oh sorry :/
Well, if it's from the '80s, I'm really wondering why Slayer isn't up there.

The list is comprised of popular bands receiving radio play at the time. By the point that list was created, none of the Big Four had hit it big yet and were barely noticed by mainstream media. It wouldn't be until '86 that 3 of the 4 would release breakthrough, controversial albums that earned them radio play and widespread acknowledgment.
