They are all good depending on your battle style.
Venusaur: learns alot of status moves
Charizard: the strongest and arguably the best, learns strong moves all the way through with high ATK, SA and SPD but has alot of weaknesses and barely any DEF or SD
Blastoise: Squirtle sucks and learns sucky moves but Blastoise gets strong STAB attacks, with a good TM move coverage.

So it just depends on what you like

Personally, I avoid them all if I can but otherwise I'd go Squirtle

Meh. xD

Just do what I did, Catch a Pikachu in the Forest and leave your starter in the depths of your PC.

Pikachu is now your starter! :D A bit underleveled, maybe, but...

Anyways, the First Gym- Get a diglett.
Second should be a breeze, third you have diglett.

... :P

The rest is pretty hard, but STILLYOUHAVEPIKACHU. ^-^

And unlike in Yellow, you're ALLOWED to evolve it.

I'd go with Charmander. I got a Squirtle, evolved it all the way to Blastoise, got stuck. I got a Bulbasaur, I got stuck. My brother got a Charmander, he didn't get stuck. xD

Charmander when evolved can fly so if you need emergency transport via flying and you don't feel like catching a Pidgey or Spearow, it evolves into Charizard.

Squirtle and its line can use Surf if you need water transport.

Though generally I favor Charmander over Squirtle, Squirtle would help you more when it comes to transport and it will take super effective damage from fewer moves.

I would definetly choose charmander. you will have very few problems vs gym leaders if you catch a solid electric or grass type, and a good flyer

The best starter is Bulbasaur. Its has an advantage over Brock's Pokemon, then again so does Squirtle.

Ew, teaching your starter HM moves.

I go with Bulba, I favor Grass starters.

I've always been a fan of the fire starters, so it's Charmander all the way for me.

I always choose Squirtle for Blastoise.
it is better than other two
it effects at most of the pokemons
it is a the best water type pokemon than any other pokemon exists in this game
for fire type the best is moltress and there is no need to have a grass type

Charmander is the best once that Charizard is the strongest

Generally I get Venusaur , or Blastoise, because twice weak to rock is a disadvantage of Charizard that I try avoiding in these versions, in spite of you hardly will find a foe with a rock type move and also have in mind that this wouldn't disturb you very much won't rock moves in that generation aren't that powerful (the strongest of them is 75 power base, Rock Slide).
