I really don't understand its purpose. Was it actually ever explained? (Unless it represents the supposed new breeding system.)

And yeah, I've never really been fond of Pichu in general, so this is no exception.

I doubt it will have an overly big part in Movie 12. Just considering the appearance of Darkrai and Shaymin in Movie 10 and 11 respectivley, I think the spotlight will mainly be on Arceus.

It'll probably just be some mate for Pikachu to play with. Then again, it's supposed to appear in HeartGold/SoulSilver.
