Default Bug Catching Contest

Righty ho, greetings to everyone here.

I've pretty much finished Silver, and now I cant do much else, i've turned my attention to the Bug Cathing Contest. Looking at the points system used to grade the winners, I deduce that there must be a forumula for getting the best score. I think, whatever it is, that its based on level, HP, and a unique code for each type of pokemon. This explains how, say, Syther can beat most others. I've tried quite a bit, but I cant get close enough to the score to work out a feasable equation. Can anybody give me a hand?

According to pokefor, the only stats that matter are:

Current/Max HP
Each stat's current value (I.e. attack)
the DVs for each stat

Which would make sense, because Scyther and Pinsir are well above the other bugs stat wise.

DV's? What do you mean by that?

I had looked at the stat values in combination with the HP and level, but drew a blank. I'll work on just stats and HP, see where it gets me. When I get a minuite I'll post up the figures I've already found.

There's a much easier way to actually win the bug catching contest. If you really want to do that well....Try catching a pokemon that is rare and has a high level.I think you can get Scyther and Pinsir both at level 13 and 14.Butterfree and Beedrill can be found at level 10 to 15.If this isn't able to help you win if you wanted to win the bug catching contest...then I am really sorry..

There's this guy in the park saying that: "Does a bug with abnormal colors give extra points?"

So basically, do shinies give more points?

Shines have above average DVs....

(DVs are genes for pokemon.)

well, barely. Shinies have a DV of 10 in speed, special and defense. (As a result, very low HP DVs)

Since the average is like 8, it's not that much higher, nor can you get to the golden plateau of 15 :(

Yeah I think in the bug catching contest shinys have a better chance of winning than normal Pokemon.Since they are very rare like about 1/8000 we would have a low chance of finding them, although when I was roaming around to find a rare Pokemon I found a shiny Butterfree.
