Default Honchkrow Sig Tutorial

This is tutorial is for joangaes who requested it via pm. Anyways, I hope everyone likes it, and if you have any question, just ask. Oh, and note, this is done in photoshop CS2.

Some of the Images are...well, links. Because you can only have 40 images in a post. Blah. Next time, I'm going to make it one image. :P

-Akara

1. First, make a new image with these specs:

2. Fill the background/1 layer with the gradient tool:

3. Now, make a new layer, get a nice fractual render or brush (doesn't matter which one, except on the later you'd have to know brush options and colors) and paste it to that layer. Set that layer to Linear Dodge:

4. It's time to play: chose your render(picture)!!! Woohoo! *n00b moment passes, coughs* Paste it in the right hand corner (also, you can chose to do a bit of blur tool action here.) The render I used is of my favorite PokeMon, Honchkrow. *huggles*

5. Next, is more Gradient tool action (if you must know, I find gradient maps...distasteful)! Make a new layer and use the gradient tool, like so:

^Set this layer to overlay in the blending option:

6. Make a new layer and paste another fractual render into it, set this layer to Linear Dodge as well (because Linear Dodge is the sig maker's best friend!):

7. This is the C4D render time. Now, in case you wondoring what the heck is a C4D render, well, I'm not exactly sure what to tell you. xD Anyways, you can find them at deviantart or look for a site that has them via google.

Paste a nice, C4D render on your sig in a new layer (you might have to move the C4D around a bit):

^Set that layer to Linear Dodge and erase where need with a soft brush:

8. Make a new layer and fill it with the gradient tool, like so:

^Set that layer to Soft Light (yes, people, a new one!) in blending option:

9. This next step...is a bit, confusing. This is where brushes come in. What you have to do is make a new layer and set it to soft light. Then, color in the spots you think should look darker on your sig. The end result should look something like this:

EXTRA STEP: Here is where you could use the pin tool and make some shapes around your render. I set mine to soft light and put each on outer-grow. (It is *assumed* that you did this step but you don't have to if you don't want to. Really! )

10. First, go to click on Layer and go down to Merge Visible (and click on it too):

Then, go to Image=Cavas Size and make the Cavas about Twice as big as your sig (you can use the percent option for this):

11. Here is where the fun begins...well, I mean, in a moment, the fun begins. *facepalm* Anyways, I usually make a box/fill layer over the graphic-layer and make the fill 0%:

Now, go to add a layer style and click:

12. Look at that, a pretty new window appears! Woohoo! Click on stroke in here and use these specs:

This should be the end result, thus far:

NOTICE: You can skip to number 18 if you want...the 13-17 are "extra."

13. This is where your vector brushes come in. First we are going to make a new layer and place one (something that you think you might be able to put a name in) in the left-hand, bottom corner of the sig, like so:

Not, much to see yet, huh?

14. Then, we're going to merge the layer with the brush and the stroke (yes, that's why I didn't tell you to make the stroke on the graphic-layer.) Then, go into layer style options:

Click on drop shadow:

Then, click on outer grow:

This should be about the outcome:

15. This is the brush I used for this step:

(it was sit to about size 43, I believe)

Anyways, make a new layer and apply it to the corner like so:

And set that layer to drop shadow:

16. This is basically the same thing. Make a new layer, use the same brush once (make sure it's in the middle of the brushes), and place the layer on drop shadow:

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...the_Imp/16.png

17. This is...the second to last step! Yes!

First, set the color to this:

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s..._the_Imp/c.png

Now, make a new layer and chose a different vector brush:

This is the one I used:

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...the_Imp/b3.png

Apply, this brush to the lower, left-hand corner and apply drop shadow in layer style:

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...the_Imp/17.png

18. LAST STEP!!! WOOHOO!!!!!!! *coughs* Alright, this is the text layer step...and, I'm going to assume that you know how to use texts in photoshop, if you can't, just pm me or post here.

Anywho! place the text (in this case, your pen-name/one word) in the lower-left, hand corner and set the text Layer to Color Dodge and Drop Shadow. Now, copy that layer, and place the copy of the layer to Linear Dodge.

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...the_Imp/18.png

Font used: Carribean's Treasure
Font size: 42 pt.

Now, if you want to add that extra string of text, you can. Just click rather close to "the main text" and write what ever you want. Set that layer to Linear Dodge and set the layer style to stroke=black.

Font used: Aria
Font size: 12 pt.

FINAL SIGNATURE (Assumes you did all extra steps)

And that's all there is too it! Now for some lunch and perhaps a nap.

The only real problem is perhaps the brushes going off in the corner (I would've place another border on the very edge there) and the word is hard to read. That's about all.

Thanks for the tutorial! :3 I recently got Photoshop and was having a hard time using it, and your tutorial helped me out.

By the way, where did you get those nice fractal brushes that you used in the tutorial?

I made this using your tutorial (I'll add text later):

Do you think it's okay? I have horrible graphic sense, so I wouldn't know. >.<

Edit: I also tried a Flareon banner:

@fost: Well, you already know what I think about it, so I'll just say its good.
