I would class Green Day as pop punk, but in each genre of rock there are too many sub genre's. Take metal for example, theres thrash, power, black, death etc.

I just had to laugh when you said said Nickleback were grunge tinged hard rock Visual.. how is producing ballads that sound the same every time "hard rock" ?

Also Visual, you say HiM are not "Love Metal" as they are hardly metal but you reffered to them as Goth Metal.. you make me giggle

OK! I'm through with the genre debate. We all have our own little sub genres and classification of music.

All i'm going to add is that punk rock, is, in it's origins, political in nature. Sex Pistols, Dead Kennedys, these guys all had something to say. On the flip side, many punk bands today(yes, Green Day has regressed into Pop Rock) employ the same song arrangement of their predecessors; fast, simple chords & easy lyrics. Examples include Blink 182 and Gob. While, many metal bands(yes, NU METAL- it's all metal) today have adopted the political standpoint of such early punk rock outfits. See System of a Down and Soulfly. You wouldn't call Soulfly punk rock, but you can't argue their anti-establishment style lyrics don't sound like the punk-rock-anarchy movements of the 70's. Just as you can't argue that Green Day's 3-piece, 4 chord songs don't bear resemblence to the simple arrangement of those same bands. The idea of Punk Rock, is that anybody can be a rock star. You get this through knowing like 2 chords and owning a guitar, not by being a political activist.

That's where i get off calling Green Day "punk rock". It iS, whether anybody likes it or not.

Makes me want to cry out of sadness...

Anyway, I'm enjoying some head-bashing anger with Pantera.

Just saw Arctic Monkeys play at Reading Festival...

The lead singer walked off for a minute half way through and let the crowd sing the band out ... it was amazing.

I'm very much aghast at most of today's music. Mainly because it's bland, overproduced, cookie cutter schlop. Case and point, Atreyu. Panic at the Disco. Death Cab For Cutie (who were good at one point or another.) It's just all very vexing.

I pretty much just stick to the bands i loved in high school.
I can't stand all these bands now that just seem like variations of them, or watery pop- metal. The kids call it screamo .
