What is the best pokemon to go up against Mewtwo in RBY?

If you're wanting to catch it, anything that can deal heavy damage should be fine if you level them high enough. It would really be a good idea to bring something that can inflict a status as well...a Victreebell should be easiest to come by.

Why don't you just throw a master ball? If it misses, turn off the game and try again.

With out a master ball 3 pokemon that compete with him a great manor are

electrode/jolteon to parlize
Moltress or Zapdos to wear it down
chansey to take the impact of special attacks when you are trying to catch it.

Just think of a good catching strategy. Get a Ghost-type like Gengar, Shadow Ball it till its red and then try to use Hypnosis on it or something. Or, use Hypnosis first to put it to sleep so it can't Psychic you.

Or use the Hypnosis/Dream Eater. If you're low on health, that's pretty good.

My friend has one and I'm going to battle it. I say teach a chansey flash and get a bunch in then switch to another mewtwo and hyper beammmm. But I dunno. I need help!

That's what the Masterball is for (who else to use it on in RBY?) but if you don't have a Masterball I suggest chipping down at its health slowly and putting it to Sleep. Sleep is more effective than Paralysis.

First of all, Gengar can't learn Shadow Ball, this is the R/B/Y section.. Secondly, Gengar will get creamed before you know it and you'll end up wasting tonnes of revives and you'll get annoyed a lot. Simply get a good Hypno, do the old hypnosis trick and try to capture it, besides you'd better save the master ball for it, because if you used it on one of the legendary birds, I think you wasted it.

Mewtwo is high leveled, his a legendary and he has high SP ATK. Consider yourself well prepared.
