Default Cursed (Pokemon with Fruits Basket elements) (We need people! Outsiders especially!)

Ok, now that this has been in the works a while and I have a lot of free time coming up (long weekend, shortened days for finals, etc.), I've decided to give this a whirl. If you could refrain from posting until I have all of the information posted, I would appreciate that very much. And please click on the image for a larger one; there's no way I could get it bigger.

The Legend

A long time ago, there was a contest between the Pokémon to see which of them could become a part of the Pokézodiac. Arceus was in charge of this contest, and the thirteen eligible Pokémon entered; Rattata, Tauros (Milktank nominated the stronger of the pairing; it was culture to assume the male to be stronger), Electrike, Buneary, Dragonite, Ekans, Ponyta, Mareep, Aipom, Piplup, Poochyena, Spoink, and Glameow. Their objective was to race across the river before them, and the first twelve to reach the other side in order of appearance would be crowned the Zodiac Spirits.

Rattata knew that he would drown if he tried to swim. He shot a glance at Glameow, who hated the water as well, and at Tauros, who he knew to be a strong pushover. He devised the plan that he and Glameow should leap onto the back of Tauros to get across the river, and promised Tauros the first place in the zodiac if he helped them get across. Tauros agreed, and the two mounted.

Tauros easily pushed his way through the river, not letting the slippery rocks or rushing current throw him into the water. Just as they were approaching the edge, Rattata used quick attack on Glameow. Glameow fell into the water and was swept downstream, hissing and spitting the entire way. Tauros reached the other side, but just before he crossed the finish line Rattata leaped off of his back over the finish line. The pushover Tauros was thus crowned the second Zodiac Spirit, and Rattata the first.

Electrike leaped into the water, but in doing so electrocuted Buneary. Electrike stopped to grab him even as Tauros, Glameow and Rattata passed them. He dragged Buneary across the finish line, and the brave Electrike was crowned third, and Buneary fourth. Dragonite flapped down to the finish line, and the confused Arceus asked him why he had not been in first, considering that his size and ability to fly could easily have put him in first place. Dragonite responded somewhat humbly that a Houndoom was harassing a colony of Bidoof and he felt that he had to intervene. A smiling Arceus crowned dragonite fifth Zodiac Spirit.

Ponyta was extremely hesitant. Being a fire type and vulnerable to water, he knew that he could easily be killed with a wrong step. Ekans slung himself across Ponyta’s neck and hiss words of confidence into the creature’s ear. Ponyta backed up several feet from the river, galloped at full speed even with Ekans around his neck, and performed a great leap that landed the two of them safely on the other side of the river. Seeing the waterlogged Mareep struggling to climb out of the water, the twosome helped him out and crossed the finish line. The encouraging Ekans was crowned sixth, Ponyta seventh, and the drenched Mareep eighth.

Aipom leaped from rock to rock, taunting the Pokémon behind him. Piplup decided to prove that he could beat the Pokémon and leaped into the water, rocketing to the other side. Aipom and Piplup reached the other side at the same time, but Aipom won, being more adept on land than Piplup and beat him to the end. Thus, Aipom was crowned ninth and Piplup tenth.

A battered Poochyena emerged some time after Aipom and Piplup, coughing and sputtering. When asked how he came to be in such a shape, he confessed that he was swept downstream when Piplup accidentally swam underneath him, throwing off his footing. It was there that he met Glameow, who had clawed and nearly drowned Poochyena in his attempt to reach the safety of the bank. Arceus crowned him eleventh and promised to nurse the Spirit back to health.

Spoink casually leaped across the finish line several hours afterwards, much to a disgruntled Arceus’s further frustration. When he demanded to know the reason behind the creature’s delay, Spoink explained that his pearl needed polishing. Once he was done with that, he explained, he found a tree full of tasty apples and figured that he needed to eat one. In the midst of Spoink’s bout of ADHD, Arceus sighed and crowned him the twelfth and final Zodiac Spirit. The winners attended the banquet that evening.

Glameow finally reached the palace of Arceus and barged in on the dinner, wet and angry. Arceus denied his entry, stating that Glameow was the thirteenth Pokémon to cross the finish line and, therefore, had earned no place in the Pokézodiac. Glameow vowed to spend the rest of his life trying to avenge his loss.

This was long accepted to be the tale. Ancient Pokémon trainers took pride in their Zodiac sign and would often only train the species that they were born under. They hoped that, in their death, they would meet Arceus and join him in his banquet, to emerge when the evening was over as the species they were born under. Glameows and Puruglys were sentenced to life in the alleys of olden-day streets, not accepted anywhere humans could shun them.

Nezumi Saito was particularly famous for his acts against Glameows, according to the second half of the legend. He raised and trained only the finest Rattatas and Raticates, taking so much pride in his birth Pokémon that any imperfection was taken to be a sin against Arceus and he would try to exterminate it. Just as he was about to “express mercy” on a runty Glameow, Arceus sent a disciple, Ninetales, to intervene. Ninetales was instructed to use whatever means necessary to ensure the survival of the Rattata and herself. Nezumi unwisely yanked on her tail as she tried to intervene. With a loud yowl, she whipped around and unleashed her power to curse on Nezumi, the power granted to her by Arceus should this ever happen. Unfortunately, in casting her curse, she opened the door to the spirit world. She forced Glameow’s spirit into Nezumi’s body, transforming him into the creature he hated most, and also cast the same curse upon anyone sharing his blood.

Your Role

You are a blood descendent of Nezumi Saito or an Outsider (discussed later). When the door to the spirit realm was opened in order to trap Glameow in Nezumi’s body, the door to the other spirits, Rattata through Spoink, was also opened. The curse placed on Nezumi is passed down to family members that share his name. What this results in for the family members is their being possessed by the twelve spirits of the Pokézodiac, Glameow and Arceus.

Members of the Saito family all transform into their Zodiac Form under distinct stimuli, often chest contact (as in hugging) with the opposite gender, stress, so on and so forth. The time to change back varies from person to person and depends greatly on the situation, but they cannot change back if they are being hugged continuously or if they are under extreme stress. Which brings about the next point; the transformations in the family have been known to be permanent. Anything from a freak accident to evolving while in Pokémon form can bring about a permanent transformation. Stress can cause changes that last longer, but are usually not permanent.

In the history of the family, there have been instances of or evidence of the curse breaking. This is significantly harder to accomplish than permanent transformation, and the curse has never been completely broken before. Such things are rumored (but have not been proven) to be Glameow finding and falling in love, repenting the sins of Nezumi, and generally working your way into the masses without exposing your curse.

Breaking the curse is not easy. This role play is supposed to feel like an emotional struggle with forces beyond your control, not “omg ican turn into glameow when hugged lookie me lol!!1!!11!” Arceus will cast many blasphemies upon those who attempt it.

The plot of the role-play lies in the hands of the Outsiders; the Outsiders can take the role-play in any direction they want to once they discover the Saito family secret. In fact, because not all of the Outsiders are inherently moral, there are one or two (or three or four, even) that want to make money off of this. The newspapers of Hoenn are all itching for a new story, and the Saito family would be perfect to do a report on. It’s only a matter of time before one of the Outsiders turns them in; the Saitos have to prevent this from happening, even at the cost of their new friendships.

Relationships and Roles

Aside from the obvious romantic relationships that will inevitably result, there are also going to be relationships between the family characters. I’m talking about the relationships between brothers and sisters purely as siblings. Before you decide that you want to be someone’s sibling, you need to ask for his or her permission over PM.

Also, five Outsiders will take part in the role play. An Outsider is a person that lives outside of the family that knows about the curse. However, Saito family has done an excellent job of hiding it the past hundred years or so; it is going to take a lot to worm the secret from someone. Usually the curse is discovered by accident; one person is shoved into another on a crowded street, etc. Outsiders know the Saitos to be a huge rich family, but aren’t on any personal connections with any of them when the role play starts. Once the curse is discovered, then you can start going to coffee shops with your future husband/wife and pursuing a relationship without hugging. Or, if coffee shops are not your thing, you could kidnap one of the Saitos and hold them for ransom, as the family is worth a lot of money.

Some Saitos take on further roles. Among these roles are the family doctor, the family housekeeper, a personal family chef, and often the aspiring business owner that wants more money for the family. Arceus is the head of the family, no questions asked, and cannot leave the Main House. The doctor, housekeeper, and chef must live in the Main House; the aspiring business owner usually tries to break away and will try to live as far from the Main House as possible. All of these people must be older than twenty (sorry, no 15-year-old teenage prodigy neurosurgeons). A layout of the main house will be posted on the discussion thread as soon as all of the Main House roles are filled. Those living in the Main House generally do not leave to pursue relationships, although it has been known to happen.

Pokémon do exist, but Outsiders or family members that are not cursed are usually the only people that own them. Subconsciously, the Pokézodiac members are morally against owning another Pokémon, being that they are Pokémon. Saitos can communicate with and naturally attract Pokémon of their species, but not of their type or further evolutions (for instance, the Saito possessed by Dratini can attract other Dratinis and communicate verbally and telepathically with them, but they cannot communicate with Dragonaire, Dragonite, the Salamence family, etc.). They cannot summon these creatures; they just come on their own, especially if the Saito is feeling a strong emotion or is transformed at the time.

Keep in mind that during the course of this role play, people are going to get hurt. There will be abuse going on. Just like in Fruits Basket, the family curse is not all about the transformations. It is about being emotionally bound to one being (Arceus) and serving his wishes until you die. It is also about the desire of the Saitos to break away from Arceus, but also about the fact they cannot and their need to come to terms with it. It’s a dark, anguishing struggle; it is not “my boifrend breaked up w/me weeehhh!”

Default Re: Cursed (Pokemon with Fruits Basket elements)

(Continued from previous)

The Cast
Just because one is reserved does not mean you cannot sign up for it. First come first serve, pretty much.

Rattata
Taken by aobocco
Rattata is exceedingly popular and well liked, being the first Pokémon in the zodiac. Just like the Rattata in the legend, those born under Rattata are often clever, systematic, practical, and charming. They are organized and great leaders that don’t mind being in the limelight. However, Rattatas can be inflexible and controlling, especially in matters of relationships. Rattatas have the potential to be downright cruel and have no regrets about exacting their revenge on others that they believe have wronged them. Rattatas are extremely compatible with Dratinis and Aipoms but must avoid Ponytas at any and all costs.

Milktank
Taken by Dragonair Blizzard
Just like in the legend, where Tauros worked hard for Rattata, and where the Milktank allowed the stronger Tauros to take her position, this spirit is a pushover, but they are capable of achieving great things through their hard work. They tend to be stubborn; once they have decided on something, it is not easy to change their minds. They are patient and enjoy helping others and being truthful and sincere, but when they decide enough is enough they can be immobile and don’t take orders from those they feel have pushed them over the edge. Milktank and Tauros, depending on the gender of the cursed, are compatible with Ekans and Piplup but find their foil in Mareep.

Electrike
Taken by Bekah_the_Pikachu
Electrike spirits are often considered to be the most warm-hearted of the Pokézodiac. Courageous in the face of uncertainty, they are willing to leap into challenges and the unfamiliar without thinking twice. Determined and optimistic as well as adventurous, those born under Electrike are not the sorts of people you want to corner. Just like the Pokémon they transform into, the Electrike is liable to bite if they feel trapped. Electrike people can often find friends in Ponytas and Poochyenas but rivals and annoyances in Aipoms.

Buneary
Taken by Kittengirl2000
Buneary people have two different personas, depending on where they are; around others, they are often very sentimental, compassionate, and even romantic, while in private they are very introspective and withdrawn, preferring to study and contemplate the meaning of life rather than plan parties. Composed and calm, Bunearies are not easily provoked, but the smallest detail can instantly throw these perfectionists into a tizzy, and they cannot truly relax until their own little world has achieved equilibrium. Although not compatible with the eccentric Piplup, Buneary can find true friends in Mareep and Spoink.

Dratini
Taken by Kittengirl2000
Although the mighty Dragonite is the true Pokézodiac member, the spirit of his son Dratini is the form that the cursed Saito takes, being too weak to handle the Dragonite’s body. Dratinis are full of exuberance and charisma, oftentimes acting as the life of the party. A terminal ego case, they will strive to be the best in everything and will almost never place second. Dratini people are capable of great achievements, and they are not bashful in making this known. This mindset is somewhat justified, as their intelligence, talent, and sheer energy can be harnessed to accomplish their goals. They have a tendency to get carried away and truly cannot fathom other people being unable to handle a task. Dratinis work best with Aipoms and Rattatas but cannot stand the friendly Poochyena.

Ekans
Taken by Shuricel
Ekans enjoy the finer things in life and can often be seen in the lap of luxury, enjoying fine cuisine and conversation. They are highly intolerant of frivolities and small talk, and will become very impatient when encountered by such things. These wise thinkers enjoy being in conversation and love deep, thought provoking talks in relationships. They have innate grace and alertness that makes them at home in any social situation, so long as the conversation is engaging. However, they tend to be incredibly headstrong and hate taking advice from others. Ekans cannot tolerate Spoink but gets along with Piplup, Tauros and Milktank.

Ponyta
Taken by Darth Murkrow
Ponyta are inquisitive and quick-witted, and are thus good at recognizing patterns and are very perceptive. They enjoy attention as long as they feel they deserve it and love to be flattered, even if they don’t outwardly express it. Ponyta people are sincerely interested in the thoughts and opinions of others and will truly listen if another person needs to confide in them. Sometimes they can let secrets slip; they would never break another person’s confidence intentionally, but are prone to innocent slips of the tongue. Ponyta are easily inspired by encouragement from others, hence the legend where Ekans encourages Ponyta to take the jump, but they can become easily excited and charge recklessly into a situation without thinking. Ponyta’s spirit can be easily crushed if they find themselves saddled. Rattatas bring out the worst in Ponyta, while Electrike and Poochyena are better companions.

Mareep
Taken by Saraibre
Mareep are very artistic and creative, and it is likely that these people will be found outside sketching nature, deciding what to wear, or composing music in the privacy of their room. The withdrawn Mareep are sensitive to the feelings of others, almost overly so, and will try their hardest to rectify any social wrong they make. Of course, this situation is a rarity, as Mareep is careful to think before they speak or act. Sympathetic as they are, they also require sympathy and often impose too much on those they love, often being perceived as clingy or jealous. They are easy to misinterpret situations and are more likely to avoid conflict and large decisions, preferring to let others take risks for them. Spoink and Buneary are willing to provide the sympathy that Mareep needs, but Tauros and Milktank are likely to deem Mareep too much of a threat to their emotional health.

Aipom
Reserved by Oni Raichu
Aipom are creative, light-hearted pranksters. Aipom children will often set traps for their siblings to fall into, draw out plans to steal cookies, and build skyscrapers from blocks. Instead of listening to and interpreting what is said in a conversation, they are more aware of what is going on and who is saying what. Very versatile and armed with agile minds, Aipoms can succeed in any subject that they put their minds to, especially when their enthusiasm is combined with their sheer determination. These qualities make them appear manipulative and selfish. Light-hearted as they are, they are likely to appear disrespectful of figures in authority. Electrike find Aipom to be irritating and vain, while Rattata and Dratini are more likely to see Aipom’s good points.

Piplup
Taken by Empoleonx2
Piplup people are very observant, making them resilient and easily forgiving. Piplups love meeting new friends and entertaining them; they thrive on being in the spotlight. Very sociable and romantic, they love to receive attention, usually dressing flashier than other, more conservative signs. Despite their label as exhibitionists, these people are confident in their choices and will not think often about what others think of them. They always have their own opinions and are not afraid to share them. Ekans, Tauros and Milktank find friends in Piplup while the conservative Buneary is uncomfortable in Piplup’s presence.

Poochyena
Taken by Kittengirl2000
Poochyena people are loyal and obedient to a fault. If someone they are fond of suffers from an injustice, needs help, or just wants to go to the movies Friday night, a Poochyena will always come through for them. They will take on responsibilities and push themselves and others to be strong enough to fulfill it. If a member of the Poochyena person’s pack fails to meet the limits they set for them, they will be brutally honest to them and will not hesitate to hurt other’s feelings to help them improve. Overly critical, impatient and easily worried, they are also unselfish and idealistic. Poochyena people get along with Ponyta and Electrike, but they see the Dratini as being too arrogant to deal with.

Spoink
Taken by Anala
Spoink are honest and straightforward, tolerant enough to let others speak before they give their own opinions. They are surprisingly relaxed and informal, but only to people they are close to; they are exceedingly uncomfortable around strangers or acquaintances. Notorious creatures of habit, if their schedule is thrown off they feel exceedingly threatened. Not weak by any means, they will not hesitate to rise to any occasion in the defense of themselves or their friends. They get along best with Mareep and Buneary, but it is strongly advised that they avoid Ekans.

Glameow
Reserved by Tombi
The Glameow spirit has no actual place in the Pokézodiac, so it is hard to determine what the traits of the cat-like creature are. However, most of those possessed by the Glameow in the past have been, among other things, socially inept and easily provoked. They prefer to live solitary lives, as none of the other signs usually accept them. Glameow will not hesitate to put on a cold or aloof air to drive others away, which is what Glameow wants; Glameow is independent and likes being alone. It feels that because none of the other signs accepted it into the Zodiac that it should not make any effort to make its presence known. The Glameow person is likely to internalize a lot of their problems and will often hurt those they love for the sake of appearing stronger than they are. Glameow hates Rattata and will not hesitate to beat the person possessed by Rattata bloody if they do so much as make eye contact.

Arceus
Taken by Darth Murkrow
Arceus, the ruler of Pokémon and the god from the legend, was inadvertently trapped when Ninetales cast her curse. The person possessed by Arceus is automatically the head of the Saito family. Arceus is a just ruler that tries to act for the best of everyone involved; his judgment may not seem remotely satisfactory to those on the wrong end of the bargain, but Arceus truly believes that his decisions are fair and accepts no word beyond his own. He is blatantly honest, especially to those not in his favor, and may, especially due to being human, twist the truth for the gain of those he likes. Arceus is judgmental and will become easily angered at those he feels are selfish. Although the entire zodiac is drawn to him, none of them truly like it and all have a secret desire to be free; Arceus, on the other hand, wants all involved to join him in a permanent banquet. He is uncomfortable with the thought of getting Outsiders involved, but if he is in a good mood at the time he will allow them to keep their memories. He is responsible for erasing memories if an Outsider gets involved with the curse.

Default Re: Cursed (Pokemon with Fruits Basket elements)

Continued from previous

Rules, Guidelines, all that Jazz

1. Be respectful, mature role players that can post more than one-liners once every few days. Three strikes and you’re out, and I don’t intend to be easy on anyone. I can understand if you can only post a paragraph, or it’s finals week and your brain is simply burned out, that’s perfectly fine, I have days like that too, but not all of your posts can be “I took this customer’s order for the third time since my shift began,” rinse, lather, and repeat. The plot will (hopefully) develop as the role-play furthers, and single sentences cannot help the role play along. And please let us know in the discussion thread if any such situation occurs.
2. Arceus is mine. I’m sorry, but as the creator of this role-play I do believe it is my right to claim the head of the family as my own character. …Dibs on Ponyta, while I’m at it. That’s all. I promise.
3. Please, please, pretty please with sugar and sprinkles and fudgey sauce stuff try as best as is within your own abilities to double characters. Fourteen spirits running around and five Outsiders can get hectic, and it will be far too chaotic to keep track of everyone if each person picks one character. I’m taking two partly for that reason. I would especially like people to double on Outsiders. Not-cursed family members and other minor characters (parents, coworkers, classmates, etc.) are merely NPCs and need no sign-ups.
4. Relationships are fine. Any kind at all. In fact, it’s a plot point. However, if you wouldn’t feel comfortable standing up and shouting the details at a family reunion while you’re sober, I would highly suggest that you don’t post it.
5. This role play takes place just after school has been let out. This means, in terms of my characters, that Masao has just graduated from the academy and Matt is on summer break. Not sure if this counts as a rule, but I cannot honestly think of another spot in which it would fit. Also, this takes place in the Hoenn region. As long as you don’t live in the Main House, you may be pretty much anywhere in Hoenn as long as you get the chance to interact with other characters. Those that live in the main house… well… need to stay there, maybe running out to do an errand or two. Outsiders need to be somewhere where they can interact with others, but they can come from any region.
6. Don’t interrupt the aftermath of a near-death experience with, “Agh, my cell phone just went off! Oops! You were about to kiss, weren’t you? Ah well, there’s always next page!” Not only will people kill your character, but the comic relief was not really necessary in a dark, serious role-play. Besides, you just broke the fourth wall. Don’t do that.
7. To ensure that you have read the rules up to this point, type, “I sweareth that thy rules shalt be followed,” somewhere in your initial post.
8. You really don’t need to follow the personalities that are provided under the zodiac signs: I’m breaking away from the Ponyta mold a little. If you want to match, that is perfectly fine, I mainly posted that for trivia’s sake. Maybe you’ll see that instead of matching the Pokémon you were born under (Rattata=Rat, Piplup=Rooster, etc.) you match another sign, or you’ll see which signs you’re compatible with.
9. Before you post anything about another person’s character in your history or family, ask permission over PM. Do not clutter up the board, please and thank you. Similarly, discussion about the role play should take place at the Discussion Board. There, a list of the cast, a Main House layout, and maybe a plot synopsis and family tree will be posted (again, PM me privately if you want to contribute to anything). Do not ask about them here.
10. For those who have read Fruits Basket and want to debate minor technicalities (minor spoilage ahead):
a. Glameow has no alternate form like the cat did
b. No one begins the role play freed from the curse.
c. Arceus transforms, unlike the god in the manga, because I said so
d. Transformations only result upon chest contact with oppositely-gendered Outsiders, not opposite-gendered family members. That means cousins, brothers and sisters can hug each other all they want without transforming as long as they’re all cursed. This I’ve kept the same.
e. For the sake of PG-13, let’s stay clothed when we transform. The most you’ll be allowed to lose is a jacket, a pair of shoes, or other similar outer clothing. Anything that would leave you exposed vanishes when you transform, but reappears when you change back. I don’t want any… vivid mental images.
f. Anything else was added as a plot point or merely for background’s sake. I had to take some liberties on the background in order to give potential role-players a quick synopsis.
11. You really think that you should post something that stupid in your sign-up (see rule 7)? Don’t post fake old English. Instead, make a casual remark about the Pokémon you were born under (they are equivalent to the animal they look like; I tried to work it out that way). If you don’t know or aren’t comfortable with sharing (which I can fully understand, given the internet these days), just make a comment regarding Arceus or Glameow. Embolden the name of the Pokémon you are talking about so that there is no confusion.

Sign-Up Sheets

Saito Family

Name: The title by which your character is addressed. It does have to be Japanese-sounding, but it should sound like a name. Please remember that your last name has to be Saito, as you are in the family.
Age How old your character is. I would aim from 16 to 33-ish, if you need a range. If you want to go older than that, kudos. Just not younger. It’s too dark of a role-play and a curse to subject anyone that young to. This does not have to correspond with your spirit at all so, yes, the Mareep spirit can be the same age as the Spoink spirit while actually only being old enough to be born under Aipom.
Gender: Self-explanatory. Male or female. Not both. Not neither.
Appearance (human): The way your character appears in human form. There doesn’t need to be any real similarities between family members, and your shiny Ekans-possessed human can even have skin with a slightly olive cast, just as long as it isn’t ridiculous. Blue hair, ok. Pink skin with purple spots I draw the line at. You may post a link to an image (not the image itself if it’s huge), but only if you have a paragraph or so of writing. The picture is to supplement your description, not the other way around. If you have any scars from abuse or anything, the more detailed story goes in history. By all means explain, but don’t try to fluff up this section using story.
Appearance (Pokémon): You may paste the shiny sprite of the Pokémon in question here. No extreme deviations from appearance; scars on your human form may carry over to your Pokémon form, or if your eyes are a different color that you like, you can include that, though it might be a bit hard to see on a sprite, so a sentence or two would be highly recommended. Your Buneary form, however, cannot have blood-red patches of fur and be pure black with 12-inch fangs. Stick to the original shiny coloring, please and thank you.
Personality: The way your character behaves, around other people or when alone, and in different situations. This does not have to directly relate to your spirit; I posted that as a guideline so that people could decide which spirit may or may not fit the character they had in mind. Also, please don’t copy the zodiac personality directly from the cast list and paste it here. Not only will I realize it, but that’s also stealing and claiming it on your sign-up as your own. I will not accept you.
History Any background information that we should know about. Have you any history with the head of the family? A scar from an accident where you lost your parents? Remember that this is a dark role-play, so depressing histories are fine, just don’t… overdo it. People get abused, but no one murders their parents at the age of nine because they gave them a time-out one time more than their sibling that happens to not be cursed. Include Arceus in your history as much as you want (just keep him in character), but ask me before you include the Ponyta spirit. Same applies to other spirits. If you have a further role within the family as the doctor or whatnot, describe how you came into the position.
Relationships: I understand that this cannot be filled out until more people join. Who among the Outsiders is your boy/girlfriend? Who in the family is your rival? Brother? Sister? Cousin? Don’t forget to ask permission before you declare to be someone’s relative/rival/significant other. Romantic relationships don’t happen until later in the role-play. Also specify here if you would prefer that your character not get involved in romance. It’s ok, but just let the public know that you’re not interested.

Outsiders

Name: The title by which your character is addressed. It does not necessarily have to be Japanese-sounding. Your last name does not have to be Saito, as you are not within the family.
Age How old your character is. I would aim from 15-25, if you need a range. If you want to go older than that, kudos. Depending on the situation, I might be swayed to give you a younger character if they can be role played well in the situations.
Gender: Self-explanatory. Male or female. Not both. Not neither.
Appearance: The way your character looks. Appearances can be as “anime” as you wish, as long as it isn’t ridiculous. Blue hair, ok. Pink skin with purple spots I draw the line at. You may post a link to an image, but only if you have a paragraph or so of writing. The picture is to supplement your description, not the other way around. Again, any stories behind additional markings go in history.
Personality: The way your character behaves, around other people or when alone, and in different situations.
History Any background information that we should know about. Do you know a member of the Saito family? How long have you known them? You don’t know that they are cursed yet, but do you suspect something? Remember to ask first. You do not know members of the main house. How was your childhood? Nowhere near as dark as the Saito family history, I can assure you. Was your memory erased at a young age so you could be adopted away from your cursed brother/sister? Be creative. Creativity gets brownie points.
Motives: Once you discover that a member of the family is cursed, what do you plan to do? Do you want to get closer to them, possibly romantically? Do you want to break the curse, but never confess your feelings? Do you want to kidnap the Saito you’ve been pretending to be friends with for the money reward? Do you want to expose the Saitos on the front page of your newspaper? Go crazy, really, but keep it somewhere in the realm of feasibility.
Pokémon: Up to 3 Pokémon that this character owns. I say three because the role-play is not centered on capturing and battling, more about character relationships. Descriptions of how you acquired them go in History. Weird recolors are fine, keep the movesets not haxored, that sort of thing. You get a cookie if you own the Pokémon your Saito friend transforms into.
Relationships: I understand that this cannot be filled out until more people join. Who is your boy/girlfriend? Who is your rival? Brother? Sister? Cousin? Don’t forget to ask permission before you declare to be someone’s relative/rival/significant other. Romantic relationships don’t happen until later in the role-play. Also specify here if you would prefer that your character not get involved in romance. It’s ok, but just let the public know that you’re not interested, especially if you only intend to kidnap people.

Finished. You may start posting.[/center]

Default Re: Cursed (Pokemon with Fruits Basket elements)

Aww... Sorry and thank you, Canis! (Wow, way to get both in the same sentence... )

Now, for my sign-up. I know I’m signing up as Ponyta and Arceus, but I am actually a Mareep, and a pretty darn personified one. My friend was born a Ponyta, though, which is why I created my Ponyta character. That being said…

Name: Matthew (Matt) Saito

Age: 16

Gender: Male

Appearance (human): Matt is an average height for someone his age; his build, though, is frighteningly thin, and his ribs are visible. He’s not by any means sick, although anyone who cares to notice would suspect anorexia; he rarely sits down to eat a meal. His skin is pale, just like the complexion of the Ponyta spirit; just as its fur is completely white, his skin is perpetually pale, and he is physically incapable of getting tan. His hair is a dirty blonde color and is kept short, usually above his ears. One section of his bangs, though, is blue, again mirroring his spirit. This is completely natural, and no matter how many times he tries to dye it or cut it off it grows back blue. His face has an innocent, boyish quality to it, and a few freckles stand out against his skin. He tends to wear formal clothing, because he works at Mount Pyre for funeral services on weekdays, and when he isn’t working he’s either alone with his cousin Masao, getting mentally and emotionally abused the head of the family, or with his parents, whom he sees two days out of the week and also gets abused by.

Appearance (Pokémon):

Personality: Shy, insecure, and quiet are the only real words used to describe Matt. Although extremely caring and compassionate, he is often uncertain of how to react in certain situations, especially those occurring where he works. Therefore, instead of offering a hug to someone having a hard time (which he knows would make him transform), he stands in silence and watches people suffer, which furthers his self-hatred and convinces him that he is selfish. He is optimistic only about the future of others; he believes in other people more than he believes in himself, and will retreat into obscurity once people receive the encouragement they need from him. Unlikely and virtually unable to stand up for himself, he will allow others to saddle him with great burdens. Believing that he needs to work out his own problems, he refuses to talk to anyone else about his emotional problems, which he believes were given to him because he can handle them. He will push himself to the limits of his strength and health each day, which usually makes him sick enough to transform. He stresses himself to the point of not eating; he feels uncomfortable eating around other people, especially those he lives with at the Main House, and busies himself enough that he only has enough time for a snack every once in a while. He transforms from stress and illness more frequently than he ever actually comes into contact with females.

History: Matt was born into the Saito family cursed by the Ponyta spirit. His parents, ashamed of raising the Ponyta, sent him to live with his aunt, uncle, and cousin when he was four years old. Whenever he asked his relatives why his mother and father didn’t want him anymore, his aunt and uncle would tell him that being cursed with the Ponyta spirit was something to be ashamed of, that he was worthless and could do nothing without someone telling him what to do, like Ekans did in the legend. Masao would impose these beliefs further on his insecure cousin, and Matt believed them for the longest time; after all, his parents had raised his older sister Kotoko, the Dratini, without any real problems.

As he grew older, he began to see his parents more, but the relationship was so strained that visits became a weekly occurrence. In this time away from his parents, he made a friend named Dani. Dani loved and respected Matt for who he was, played with him, talked with him, and even found a secret place for the two of them, even when the inevitable happened and she accidentally made him transform. Masao, 17 at the time, found out she existed. Jealous of Matt’s ability to make friends, he erased Dani’s memories and subjected Matt to years of mental abuse, convincing him that it was his fault Dani’s memories were gone. In order to escape the Main House, Matt left during the day to work at Mount Pyre for funeral services. He doesn’t work for money, which he doesn’t receive; he works, instead, to try and repent the sins of his ancestor Nezumi, whose tomb he visits after services, by helping lay the dead, human and Pokémon alike, to rest.

His line of work does not help with his grief; it only hurts him. He sees crying people every day, but knows he cannot offer them something as simple as a hug without exposing his family secret. Oftentimes, after a service, he will be found by Nezumi’s tomb, silently crying, not wanting to force the blame for his problems on anyone but himself. The emotional stress of his job and his curse will often cause him to starve himself for a day or more, then transform into his Ponyta form; the longest he’s been a Pokémon has been two and a half hours, most often when his work week is over and he has collapsed at the spot where he and Dani used to play. He arrives at Mount Pyre at the beginning of the role play only to discover that a member of Dani’s family has died; however, none of them remember that he ever existed.

Relationships: Cousin of Masao; Brother of Kotoko, Kaiya, Kari, and Luna (apparently); Romance ok, ask first.

Name: Masao Saito

Age 19

Gender: Male

Appearance (human): Masao, much like his Arceus form, has blonde hair that falls down to his shoulders. The tips are naturally green due to the coloration of his spirit; he tells people “It just sort of does that.” His face bears a perpetual five-o-clock shadow that spreads onto his neck. His skin is tanned only because his hobbies include sitting on the roof, tanning while at the same time spying on his cousins that visit or stay at the Main House. He is quite gangly, mirroring the long limbs of his Arceus form. His ears are pierced in several places and he wears several golden bracelets and rings, also mirroring the ring around Arceus’s body. He wears a leather jacket, a tie usually, and dress pants, as no respectable head of the family should ever be seen in blue jeans or other casual clothing.

Appearance (Pokémon):

Personality: Masao is a proud individual, as is fitting for being possessed by the spirit of Arceus. Notoriously arrogant, he is not afraid to flaunt the talents that he has. Despite the fact that he is not well liked among most members of the zodiac, they will listen to him, in part because he is Arceus, but also because he is excellent at arguing and a very persuasive individual. He has a way with words and, in arguments, he exploits his opponent’s doubt and turns it on them, an ability he takes pride in. He is very vocal about his emotions, not afraid of throwing tantrums or flaunting a victory in front of his family. However, this also makes him extremely comfortable in social situations; he can be very bubbly and comfortable when talking to others, and sometimes his teasing can be misconstrued as playful, harmless pranks. He is very self-confident and believes, somewhat falsely, that no one would dare judge him because he is Arceus; he is their god, and they will have to join him forever in heaven once they died.

History: Masao was born into a surprisingly stable family life, given the family situation. Once his mother discovered she was pregnant, she worried immediately. At the time, there were a few spirits that had not inhabited a body yet, and she was worried that her son would become one of these cursed beings and vowed to disown him to another member of her husband’s family if he turned out to be possessed. Once she gave birth and held her son, he turned into a small baby Arceus, and she immediately took him in. Proud that Arceus possessed her son and not any of the other, “lowlier” beings, she immediately began to spoil the child. Masao has never had any real need to support himself, as he has always had family doctors, private chefs, and all the money he ever wanted without needing to work for it.

Once he graduated from an all-boys academy in Sinnoh, he was immediately returned to the Main House, which lies between Fortree and Lilycove of Hoenn, and lives within the mansion, only seen when family members need something or are giving him something. Responsible for erasing the memories of Outsiders, he will often erase memories out of spite, especially if the Outsider expresses fondness towards his cousin Matt.

His relationship with Matt can be described as strained at best. Once his cousin was born possessed by the Ponyta spirit, his parents would often leave him with his aunt and uncle in the Main House for the weekdays, not wanting to go through the trouble of raising possessed children continuously. There, Masao would bully and roughhouse Matt into doing what he wanted, which would often be to steal cookies from his aunt so Matt would get in trouble. Matt would often take the blame, as Masao was deemed to be the perfect child. As they matured, the abuse turned more psychological, especially after the incident with Dani (which he reminds him about to this day), and Masao was satisfied in knowing that he could control Matt much more easily than he could the other Saitos. At the start of the role-play, he is harassing Matt yet again before he leaves for work.

Relationships: Cousin of Matt and Kotoko; Head of the Family; No romance; Only child.

Please reserve me Dratini. I sweareth that thy rules shalt be followed.

Name: Kotoko Satos
Age: 16
Gender: Female
Appearance (human):
Kotoko has long, beautiful purple hair, with white streaks. Her skin is slightly paler than usual. She has light blue eyes. She wears deep purple boots, and a strapless light purple designer dress. In her hair is a pink hibiscus flower. The dress has a white rim. Underneath the dress she wears a white woolen desiger jumper. Why Kotoko wears this under her dress is unknown, but it is guessed to hide the birthmark on her back, which was a small scar. Kotoko is also very good with computers, and hacking. Her skin is pale due to her being on the computer all the time, and she is afraid to go into the sun without sunscreen. Why? Kotoko goes brown a few minutes after getting sunburnt. Kotoko highly fears this, preffereing the sun to come through her window instead.
Appearance (Pokémon):
You can just slightly see the scar on her back.
Personality:
Kotoko is very quiet, yet responsible. She always is up to help, and loves everyone in her family. She is very good with computers, as stated in appearance. She is also afraid of wearing no sunscreen, so she always puts a bit on before going out. Her brother, Matt, who was possesed by the Ponyta spirit, got tolerated and ignored by everyone, including Kotoko. Kotoko agrees the spirit is somewhat useless, yet, inside, she cares for him. She is somewhat spoiled, and was sent to live with Masao, due to her parents busy scedules. Kotoko loves water. She will protect anyone at any costs. She is also very smart and intelligant.
History:
Kotoko was born a few months before Matt. Kotoko, born as a Dratini, was expected to be a male. It was'nt until her birth that they realised she was female. Even then, they were very proud. She was spoilt. When Matt was born, Kotoko still had a bit of attention. Kotoko was a very elligant baby; she was beautiful. When she was 9, she was sent to an all girl school. The girls there were rough and mean, and they treated Kotoko like dirt. However, her parents then took her out so that she could stay with her cousin, Masao. When she went with her brother, Matt, she waited two hours in the car to get there. When she got there, she was welcomed by her uncle and aunt. When she found out that Masao had erased Dani's memories, Kotoko was furious. Dani was his only friend. She learnt the flute for a while, and then started to sing. When Matt started to work at Mt.Pyre, Kotoko got worried. Matt and Kotoko got along fine as kids, but still, this worried her. She then found out that Masao had told Matt it was his fault. Kotoko, once again, was furious.
Relationships: Sister of Matt; cousin of Masao. Ponyta is wierd.

I'm not at all trying to sound mean or anything, so don't take anything personally. Your phsyical description is an ok length, but I think that your history could stand to be elaborated on more. I can understand the powerful Dratini child being spoiled, and I like what you're doing so far, but if you could elaborate on your history just a bit more it would be much appreciated. We could disscuss history a bit more over PM.

And... if the characters are the same age... unless they're born nine months apart? *Tries not to think about it too hard*

I really, really like the way that you're headed; I think that it needs to be a little deeper, though. It's not strike-worthy, I don't think, but you're still pending for the time being. I'll be more than happy to accept you once we work stuff out.

Really, Kittengirl, don't be afraid to go into more detail. I used to have the exact same problem. I can see that you're trying, though, and I'm in a good mood right now.

Moved from pending to accepted.

Looking good so far, Khalid. You have Piplup reserved for the time being.

Are you going to sign up as an outsider? I'm pretty sure I stuck motives under the outsider's sign-up... maybe you could mush that into history or personality?

Don't forget a certain secret word that you're supposed to use.

This is indeed an epic plot. I like it, but I still am a bit confused. I'll wait until a few more people sign up to get the feel for their history(I cannot write a decent history on any charactar DX). I never read Fruit Basket, so I may be confused, but I think I'll join later.
