Idea for advertising (make it lower and stuff) + Arcade

We can make so only members with 100 posts or somthing gets to advertise in the internet board or somthing, and you have to have, say, 50 posts before you can PM.

Plus, I still want a forum arcade >_<, made a thread earlier, but people lost intrest in it, even thought they liked the idea.

Discuss please.

What's wrong with PMing? Why don't you just ban links in PMs?

The 100 posts to advertise might be a little understatement. Most people who advertise here definatley have over 100 posts.

Yeah, but most join just to advertise anyway, and I guess the PMing bit is a little harsh, but I dont know if you can just take the link out of PM's

Then when people want to see something and they can't find it like a pokemon website, they can't gwt there. It would take them longer.

But im hoping for a arcade here, but your right, it wont happen, but I still think the advertising bit is a ok idea.

the advertising thing is a good idea. But how would ryan do that? im familiar with controls for forums and all ( i run one) and the admin panel is complex. but how would he make it so that you need 100 posts to advertise? oh and btw, the arcade will never ever happen.(i think) and the PMing/50 post idea....meh..im not sure what to do about that. you cannot restrict PMing because most people use it alot. though it would keep the bots away...

Making online games is pretty tough, so I won't side with the forum arcadae idea. And I don't see why members under 50 posts shouldn't be able to PM. What if they are PMing someone for help, and don't know to post it here?

Let's see what would happen if we did that:
People would come to advertise, then see that they need more posts to do so.
What can come of this? They would spam to get more posts which is bad.
Then, when their damage is done by spamming, they'll have the ability to do more damage through advertising.

You don't actually NEED to have people to make games. VBulliten has their own arcade and it is just an add-on to whatever forum you have.

But with Ryan dead, that is impossible. :[

First off, with the forum arcade, there’s a 99.99% chance it won’t ever happen. If Ryan is too busy to even visit the forum for over a month and update the news on the main site, I strongly doubt he’ll have the time to implement this.

As for advertising…

What people need to realize is that any free site or any free forum is doomed if it can never be found in Google. If you really want a forum to be successful and not be a one or two month deal before it dies, you would need to have a very content-filled site that’s professionally done and can be easily found through Google and/or Yahoo search engines. How did PE2K get to be the way it is today? Not through a freewebs site that could only be found through direct references. If you really want your site and forum to be successful, then get your own unique domain name, find a niche to focus on, and make the site attractive and content-filled without killing your own bandwidth, and make it easy to find in Google and Yahoo. That’s the real way you make a website and forum successful.

Posting here won’t make a difference when it all really comes down to it. With Other Chat and Mixed Polls, its extremely easy to get to one hundred posts to be able to just throw ads around. Besides, if you’re looking more toward the cheap and free forums and stuff, a sig is the best way to do it regardless. Hate to say it, but go to the first few pages of that Forum and Site advertising thread, and count all the ones that have gone inactive or were shut down. Not a pretty picture, I’m sure of it.

And third, I’m really against PM advertising in the first place, as it’s pretty annoying to everyone.

I can get rid of the arcade idea, I would just like it though.

Anyway, PM'ing idea can go aswell, but I think the 100 post thing we should do, and it can be done, I have seen it on other forums (example, Latiosworld)

Plus if somebody spams, mods can ban them, no?
