A Silent Ash
When you meet Ash in G/S/C, how come he doesn't talk? Actually, he doesn't talk for any of the times you talk to him or beat him (I've beaten him like 20 times).

Re: A Silent Ash
He does not speak because he is a former main Character. Main game characters rarely ever speak, and since Red never spoke in RBY when you played as him they decided not to have him speak when you battle him either.
He's made out to be the strong, silent type.

Re: A Silent Ash
There is a sailor on the SS Anne that says that you in RBY. Right when you enter, turn left and talk to this guy. He's says you're the strong silent type.

Acually, it was a bartender. I think the exact quote was "Oh, le strong, silent type?". Wow, how stereotypical to the french. Oh well. If you want to see him, hes rite next to the entrance to the SS anne.

He has spoken before. To COPPYCAT in RBY. Everyone seems to talk to her for some reason. >< But when you meet him in RBY, he probably doesn't say anything because there isn't any real need to. The two CHAMPIONs battle, the winner is the ultermite trainer. Both of them would know that. When you beat him, he was either too upset to say anything (refaring to the freakin ASH on the TV show who cries just because he loses ONE match), or he just didn't think that there was any point in saying anything, since you'd already beaten him.

When you walk up to him, all he says is "..."? Don't worry, it's normal. -_- He tends to do that on the N64 release, Pokemon Stadium 2 (3), too. It's very annoying... >< You'd think they would have taken the time to add more expretions to his sprite, like they did in the rest of the Stadium 2 sprites.

Re: A Silent Ash
Ash has gone through plenty of things. He's seen the whole Kanto-world and has been the League Champion. He doesn't have to talk, he has already reached everything. Now, he's not the best anymore (that's supposed to be you) and he disappears. He has nothing to say, and he doesn't have too. I think Lance's quote when you beat him would be more appropriate here, but of course, then he would have talked.

Re: A Silent Ash
Ah yes, poor Ash. I think he was too sad to speak. Think about it, being the best in the world for so long and then having that title ripped from your still beating heart...

Dude, this is Ash we're talking about. The guy who cries just because he loses half way through a common Pokemon League, or to a common Gym Leader like Brawly. -_- Someone who's been training for 4 years, and only has about 30 Pokemon in total, and hasn't even won one lousy Pokemon League. Not counting the Orange League, because Drake was only ONE person. It shouldn't even be called a league.
Ash would put his hat down to cover his eyes, and sob, Kenta (GSC Hero), or Marina (C Hero), whoever you go with, would say; "it's okay, Ash (Red)." Ash would say; "WAH!!!!!!!!!" and run off like a little baby. I can picture it all now. He has to learn how to take defeat more maturely!

Re: A Silent Ash
Well, if he did become the best in the world you have to admit it would be pretty hard for him to hear 'You're past your prime guy, go home." Still I have a hard time picturing a teenage Ash

Re: A Silent Ash
The main characters in most games rarely speak. The main reason is that, in fact, YOU are the main character, and if that character speaks something, IT'S NOT your decition. When a character speaks, they give you a choice (usually 2 or 3), giving the gameplayer the feeling "he/she spoke", not the character.
For example, Ryu in Breath of Fire, Chrono in Chrono Trigger, Ash on Pokémon... there are a lot of examples.
However, I have my own theory about this un-spoken character.
Ash used to be a happy, cheerful trainer. After 3 years passed, he retired to solitude to become even stronger.
There is no need to say anything, he knows why you are there.
I don't remember well, but her Mother says something about him changing in Pallet Town.
Marth.

That sounds more like something the GSC rival (Kamon) would say. Kenta or Marina would be supporting, probably...
