RACE.

You were born with a number instead of a name. You were born without family, without a mother to hold you, without a father to guide you, without brothers or sisters to comfort you in your times of need. Your history is a series of research notes limited to words on a page. You have no choice, you have no voice, you are made to do what your creators felt your purpose should be. You were created by science during the Nano-age, created to fight, born to win the wars for the nation that forged you, or die trying. They thought you were perfect.

They were wrong.

The year is 2181 in the Pokémon world. Science and technology has reached a new peak, one of madness, one of degeneration, and one born of corruption. The ethics on the creation of scientific projects is gone, nothing is checked, no conventions are made to ensure the morality of these undertakings, and they are allowed to spread like wildfire, unprecedented all in the name of misguided ideas of what they call "progress." Meanwhile, you are the brainchildren of it all, simply referred to as RACE, a test group of super soldiers made for military superiority. Armed to be stronger, faster, extremely intelligent, more durable, and naturally lead forces into combat, you were allowed to live only for this sole purpose.

But fate kicked in when they least suspected it. Little did they know, you were given a soul just like all the others. You stood there in the battle-torn fields of Kanto, Johto, and Hoenn, staring at the aftermath of the nuclear winter before you. Gazing upon the war-torn landscape of the icy, burnt shells of once-thriving metropolises standing before you with the frozen winds pounding on your back, something came upon you at that very moment. Looking down upon the bodies of dead people and Pokémon littered everywhere in the cold snow of this new reality, a question came to you that made the difference between everything.

Why?

And then something happened that your creators didn’t expect. You gained morality, empathy, and compassion. You learned to hate the barbaric scientific methods that created you, the people that crafted you only to be used as a tool of destruction, but most of all, you loathed the world around you with everything plunged into hopeless, black sorrow. In a world of despair where all the answers are ambiguous and the future is like rolling on like a dark highway at night, the choices are limited, but you know what undertakings need to be done.

There is only one solution now to stop the nightmare of human hands before it all grows out of control. You must seek out the other members of RACE, and find Celebi to travel through time to stop the tragic events before they happen, even if it means destroying the technology that created you, which could have unknown effects upon yourself when you no longer become possible. However, it must be done, for the benefit of all of mankind. You carry the future on your back now.

WHAT IS AT HAND

Currently, the world is plunged into World War VII, and considering how much damage has been done to the world in very little time, it is expected that humanity will light the final spark that will extinguish all life on the planet before the war is over. If this comes to pass, nothing will be left.

Blackmailing Hoenn for not paying a ransom, the Blackthroat terrorist group attacks Kanto and Johto with the PHT (Pokémon Hybrid Transmutation) Virus, turning the people of Kanto and Johto into half human, half Pokémon hybrids. Blackthroat then makes it appear Hoenn is to blame, and the war spreads even further. Meanwhile, the nuclear winter that now surrounds the world is the aftermath of the JANIX Surrogate bombs, used by Kanto as revenge for the PHT Virus outbreak.

Hoenn and Sinnoh wage war against Orre and the Orange Islands for their own economic destruction, seeing it as the last hope to survive before plunging under the crushing weight of their adversaries. The fighting will not stop… until everything is lost.

But it’s not over yet…

TIMELINE

EVENT #1 – October 17th, 2175 | Fuchsia City, Kanto – Ram Laboratories located in Fuchsia, Kanto creates the JANIX Surrogate Bomb with the work of scientists Hank Ocelot and Victor Ramon. JANIX Surrogate Bombs were the reason for the current nuclear winter, as well as the destruction of many cities around the world and the total freak mutilation of Mother Nature. The bombs must be destroyed before they are created. The research must be deleted completely, and Ocelot and Ramon need to be convinced of what the future will become if the bombs are allowed to exist. It is the only way to reverse the damage and stop the nuclear winter.

PRESENT DAY EFFECTS - Stops the nuclear winter completely, all areas become temperate climate once again, and many cities are reformed to their original state. Some war is stopped, but not all. Finishing Event #2 before Event #1 doesn’t stop the nuclear winter as the bombs would still be used in the war for other reasons.

EVENT #2 – March 3rd, 2172 | Hoenn Underground – Terrorist organization Blackthroat creates the PHT Virus, a DNA manipulating sickness that transforms normal humans into half human, half Pokémon hybrids. Because of the war, this virus was deployed upon Kanto and Johto, pulling them into the war and blaming Hoenn and Sinnoh for the sneak attack. Responsible for massive political outbreaks, rebellions, and a true lack of morality behind its creation, this also must be stopped before it comes to pass. Take down the insurgent Blackthroat leaders, destroy the PHT Virus research, and stop the outbreak from happening that results into the deadly seventh world war.

PRESENT DAY EFFECTS – Breaks the Kanto and Johto theatres out of World War VII completely. Combine with Event #3 to stop World War VII.

EVENT #3 – June 12th, 2165 | Phenac City, Orre – Fascist dictator Manek Arasandac comes to power and declares Orre’s superiority over the rest of the world, turning the desert nation from a wasteland into a booming economic superpower that literally chokes the economies of the other nations through extremist, back-handed methods to combat with Hoenn’s superior technology and scientific research. In union with this, the Orange Islands allies with the corrupted nation, hoping to gain from the economic glory. Shortly after, Hoenn and Sinnoh, both greatly affected by the economic disaster, declare war upon Orre and the Orange Islands. It is clear that dictator Manek Yantil must be assassinated before these motions are put into play. It MUST appear to be an accident, or Orre will suspect another nation for the crime.

PRESENT DAY EFFECTS – Breaks the Orre and Orange Islands theatres out of World War VII completely. Combine with Event #2 to stop World War VII.

EVENT #4 – August 8th, 2163 | Rustboro City, Hoenn – Hoenn’s government signs the Parallel Research Plan, allowing science to move forward with intensified research and development without compliance to the law, giving them total access to create by any means necessary. This paves the way for the creation of RACE, as well as many other unethical projects that the madness of this new science approach will create. In order to stop Orre from reacting to this, the Parallel Research Plan must never come to pass. Without a doubt, this would make it impossible for you to exist, and it is unknown what will happen then. Regardless, it has to be done, so that it never comes to pass.

PRESENT DAY EFFECTS – Removes many of the freak technology and science creations from the world, but also causes you to cease to exist (You get reincarnated as something else, but your character does not know that). Must be completed last.

RULES
  • Try to avoid spamming. Also, posts should be a good paragraph long at minimum, but I really encourage at least one page in MS Word or something close to that.
  • OOCs are okay, but just keep them to a minimum.
  • Also, try to avoid god-modding. If I see something that’s really off track, I’ll mention it.

Go for it!

OOC:

Damn black out...

Ok. I am assuming that we don't have flying cars by the year 2181. Still if we do then I can edit my post.

IC:

Saffron City

Zakuro was speeding on her petal bike on the streets of Saffron City. She dodged trucks and cars with great speed and petal as fast as she could to make sure that she doesn’t hit any cars. Behind her on her petal bike was a black box that didn’t move at all. Zakuro stood on her bike as she petal faster until she skid to a stop at a red light. Zakuro looked to her side with a frown and saw her absol, Selene.

Selene looked at Zakuro and nodded.

Zakuro nodded back and said, “Only for now. We get a bit of money and then we go back on our journey.” Selene nodded and they just waited. Zakuro knew how much she wanted to leave this city and Zakuro too didn’t like being in a city this big but still it was the best place to lay low and get some money. Zakuro was glad that she could understand Selene because of her absol DNA. Zakuro was infuse with absol DNA which allow her to have their abilities and understand them. She then looked to her side and saw a car and next to that car was a newsclip stand. Maybe later Zakuro would get one.

Zakuro sighed as she wore a black gas mask. She wasn’t effected by the PHT gas but still Zakuro had to create the illusion that she was a regular person like everybody else. If she didn’t then getting a job would be hard. Still money is something that counts in this world.

The light turned green and Zakuro prepare to petal. After a few steps she was speeding again in the streets with Selene following close by. Zakuro looked at the time and saw that she only had a few more minutes left before it was too late. Zakuro looked around and saw a truck that was carrying lumber in an angle then to where she was going. Zakuro looked at Selene and the two knew what to do. Zakuro began to petal faster and when she was at the rear of the truck she made the bike hop and then ride up the lumber and flew into the air. Zakuro was flying over the cars and soon she landed on the sidewalk next to the black building. Zakuro place the bike stand up and walked to the door. She saw a pushpad and press the button that had the number nine on it. There was a buzz and Zakuro said coldly, “Delivery.” Zakuro then walked back to her bike and pulled out a white cardboard box out of the black box on the back of her bike. She then walked back to the door.

A ruffy looking man was at the door and looked at Zakuro. He looked a bit upset and said, “About-“

Zakuro cut the guy off and just shoved the cardboard box into the man’s arms. Zakuro coldly said, “Pizza.”

She then took the man’s card which was in the man’s hand and swifty sweep the card into the card reader. She then shoved the card into the guy’s month and just began to walk back to her bike. With that done Zakuro began to petal off and said to her absol, “Another four bucks closer before we leave.”

Visor
Blackthorn City, Johto

“… Alpha Team… come in Alpha Team…”

They can’t hear you, Alpha Team is dead. Same thing with Bravo and Delta. Everyone is dead.

But not me.

The snow-smothered streets of Blackthorn were before me, along with fires, destroying the many scattered buildings. Overturned vehicles, dismantled bodies, and lots and lots of dead people. The entire contingent was dead, laying all over the place, both officers and their Pokémon. I still had Metagross out, and he kept in close contact.

<They’re coming. We’re the only ones left.>

<I know. I don’t blame them for hating us considering what we did to their town.>

And I knew we didn’t have much time. Halfway point. It was either run like the wind, or get struck down like the others did.

“Kill them!” I heard one of them shout.

I immediately got the CypherMag 410K and the HJI Assault Rifle out, and fired upon the incoming Murkrow hybrid. He already knew I wasn’t human, but fifteen plasma shots to the face served as an additional reminder of that. However, more were coming.

First three of them, now seven. Metagross had ripped into the back of a Houndoom hybrid, and just when the creature turned around, he was struck again with a Metal Claw attack to the face. Meanwhile, I fired upon the rest of the group, burning out the rest of the magazine on the CypherMag. With it empty, I threw it aside, I just focused on using the assault rifle. One had crept up behind me, and I swung around to strike the Vigoroth hybrid right in the jaw, shattering his lower jaw and teeth snapping back and locking it in the roof of his mouth. I then struck him again in the chest, and when he hunched over, I kicked his head from the side, sending his bloody, furry face right into the freezing snow.

<We need to keep moving!>

<Understood.>

We headed southbound, returning suppressing fire to keep them down and stopping their advance. However, many of them were coming from all directions, and it was pretty clear all of them pretty much figured out I was the only one left alive.

“Psychic attack, Metagross.” I told him, shooting back at the incoming group of hybrids.

He focused his energy upon the incoming group, and the attack had a mixed reaction on them. Some… took a serious blow from the crushing force of psychic energy. However, there were others that didn’t even feel it. To those who weren’t hit, I fired back at them to finish the job.

We were almost out, but the trip to get to our real destination was going to be a lot longer than I would have liked it…

0600 Hours, RACE Outpost - Briefing Roof, Seafoam Islands, Kanto

1st Lieutenant Hans: Listen up soldiers, your mission today is a simple standard bombing run. At 0700 hours, you will be escorted southwest into Orange Islands airspace and continue on to your target of Pummelo Island. Now go and collect what you need. And remember, you were not made for failure.

I saluted my 1st Lieutenant and marched out of the room in my place in line. One we broke off from our formations, I made my way down the musty halls to my private quarters. I couldn't help but notice the fact that my door was left open, and I didn't feel too good about that. I opened the door, and gave a quick glance around. Nothing. I grabbed my bag from the old cast-iron hooks that were melted to the back of the door. I gave one more quick glance at the room, grabbed my CQ-07 Pistol out of the front pouch, made sure I had enough ammo in it, stuck it in my belt and left the room, slamming the steel door shut.

I made my way to the upper level hangars, to find my plane, an RCE-F79, where I had left it after my test flight. Take off was less than 10 minutes away, so I got inside the cockpit and sat down, and opened the power box for the plane. I flipped the switch to power it on, and did my usual routine. Flipped a few switches, checked some gauges, ran a quick diagnostics test of the mainframe computer system, and got my Pokemon out. And that's where I found out why the door to my room was open. Someone had taken my Alakazam, which was used to create a telekinetic forcefield around the plane.

It was too late for me to do anything, so I just hoped that this wouldn't harm anything. For the first time in my existance, I felt a small bit of nervousness. I hooked up a wire from my helmet to my Vibrava, who served as a radar for missions and could be deployed as a recon-camera on the ground. I also had a counterpart Pokemon, a Swellow, with no technological enhancements.

I fired up the engine, and waited for 0700 hours and for the takeoff to be announced. This was as real as it was ever going to get, but that one minor inconvenience made me uneasy. I did nothing but train for this moment for the whole of my existance, and I wasn't going to let a no-show forcefield ruin it.

Computer Operator:
All pilots, ready for takeoff. Commence launch sequence when ready.

I took off, and took my place among the formation. We traveled southwest for around 18 miles, about 3 and a half minutes at a slow speed, until we hit Orange Island airspace. We were not welcome, and it seemed that someone knew we where coming. We were engaged by enemy fighters the moment we stuck our noses into their territory.

Just great, looks like I need to be extra careful without my Alakazam now...

I took a higher altitude, and took focus on an enemy fighter. I locked on target and fired. The plane burst into a fiery inferno and it's scattered piece fell through the clouds into the ocean below. And then I saw it, and it was too late. I was hit, it was all over...

Saffron City

Zakuro was outside the pizza place, her temportary place of work. Wasn't much of a job but it was something. Just a few days here and she be out of this city to countinue her journey. Zakuro's journey was a simple one. To find out who she was is and what she was meant to do. Only a few months ago Zakuro was a weapon of the HOenn government. Now she was a person that was on the run from the government. Still Zakuro was living a nice live but still she was looking for her purpose. There must be more to her life then killing people. Zakuro looked just like one of these people and she has learn that these people can kill and if these people can kill and live life then so can she. Still for now Zakuro had no idea what to do. She knew that pizza delivery wasn't her thing but she felt like she had to go somewhere. Maybe it was her absol DNA but she felt that maybe she can find her calling in Johto.

Zakuro played with a cigarette as she played with her cheap PDA. Zakuro doesn't smoke but like the idea to play with them in her hands. She knew how bad these things were for her and was not intrested in ruining her body because of these things. Zakuro stood next to the newsstand and was trying to hack into it with her PDA. She then nodded as the hack was successful and she easily downloaded the news. She touch the screen and saw her face and a few others on the tenth page. This was something daily to see herself and others like her that were from RACE. Because of this page Zakuro found out that she wasn't the only one that have undergone this mental transformation she called it and eventually the Hoenn government has taken notice to this and relize that the missing RACE weapons were more then missing in action. Still Zakuro knew from her training that if she was on the run that she had to blend in. It has been many months since she been MIA and her hair had grown out a lot. In the picture in the wanted newspaper had her with her short hair while now she had long hair which was enough to make her blend in to soceity and not hunted down by bounty hunters.

There were others on the tenth page including a blue eye, blond hair girl that went by the number BLE-105698. A black haired girl that number was TAM-042777 and a very lean man that serial number was SLV-000001. She enlarge the picture of every RACE person and just turned the page.

Zakuro looked at the time on her PDA and just sighed. Zakuro place her PDA into her back pocket and placed the cigarette back into the carton and knew that she had to go back to work. Selene looked up at her from taking a small nap and together they walked into the pizza parlor to make another delivery. "Just some more money."

River (TAM-042777)
Route 34, just outside the Ilex Forest

"Alakazam, I order you to stop bugging me about reporting in to home base. I absolutely refuse to return to them just to be mind controlled, USED, like some weapon again."
<Fine, River, but if they find us I'm blaming it on you.>
"As if they would put it on your head anyway. I'm the 'rouge' weapon you know." He thought it over but blocked his thoughts so that I couldn't read them.
<I still don't like it.> He decided.
"Then you can just Return to your pokeball because I will not put up with this insubordination any longer." A red beam recalled Alakazam to his resting place.
I listened in on the thoughts of my other two pokemon
~...glad we're not being returned to our pokeballs. I wonder when we're gonna eat, I'm getting hungry.~ This from Luxray
--no more fighting... no more battles... good to rest, hope it won't get boring.-- Hitmontop's thoughts made me smile. It was indeed going to be very different, but in a good way. I would no longer be following orders blindly. I knew everything I had done for the name of the Sinnoh army. Most of it I regretted, most of it I could do nothing about. You can't give back someone their life. I wished once more that I could, but this time I didn't cry about it. Instead I moved forward, towards Goldenrod.

We hadn't moved very far from the valley where our last battle had taken place. Just beyond the hill that hid the battlefield from our view. After all the fighting was over, I hadn't gone back down into that valley of death. It had become excessively silent when it was all over. Few stirred, the river of thoughts that had roared through my mind mid-battle had slowed and dropped off, leaving only a few trickling thoughts, though there were so many dead that even those few were muffled by the overwhelming silence. And by the following morning even those few had stopped. They were all dead now. Any survivors had moved on to the next battle they would fight.

I too was moving on, but not to another battle. I was walking to Goldenrod, though I decided that once I was out of the forest I would leave the path so as not to enter through the city gates, it would be too bold. Speaking of too bold, I would have to ditch my red dress as soon as possible. It made me stand out too much, but for now it would have to do. I had never carried around any swath of clothing from the Sinnoh military army uniforms, my boots were the only exception. Not that I'd want to be wearing a Sinnoh military uniform here in Johto anyway. Not if I wanted to blend in, and that was exactly what I wanted to do.

OOC: -.- Not the greatest of my starter posts and rather short too... I hope I'll get more into the storyline as we go.

Unit POJ-180425
Pokémon Mansion, Cinnabar Island, Kanto

Uhg, where am I?

Looking around, I found myself standing in a small conference room. The walls were plain, as was the roof other than a few plain ceiling lamps. A dozen or so machines displayed different incomprehensible data. The floor was made of a fine polished wood; it was also littered with dead bodies.

I bellowed at the sigh of the carnage, startling M083-0707. After asking myself who could have possibly done this, and the answer came to me. I had done it. This destruction had come about because of the orders I had been required to fill. But something had gone wrong here, I had never felt regret about the outcome of a mission before. So something must have been done incorrectly, right? Before I could figure out the solution to this puzzle

One of the dead scientists caught my attention. His body was tossed over a large device with whirling meters and a few large buttons. It seemed strange, him lying there. His eyes were clouded over and seemed to stare off into nothingness. His lab coat, originally white, had become splattered with a red liquid. I had no idea if the blood was his own or that of his co-workers. Something told me he wore both.

I shook the man's image from my mind. Imagining different scenarios he could have been murdered wasn't getting me anywhere. It was time to leave this room, but how? The walls had no windows, and a thick metal barrier blocked off the only exit. There didn't appear to be any operating switches for this door in here.

Maybe one of the buttons could disarm the building security, I thought hopefully. My most tech-wise pokémon was already out, and I made use of him. "See if you can find a way out of here," I commanded M083-0707, my farfetch'd. "I want these doors open in the next five minutes." In a whisper I added, "How the hell did I get in here." M083-0707 seemed to have heard me, and a confused expression passed over his face for a moment. We made eye contact and he went strait back to work on finding an override control for the blockade.

A navy-coloured metallic briefcase lay closed on top of the conference table. It had a combination lock of twelve digits. Four separate combinations on each side of the rectangular object. I'd be lucky if I could get into it, unless...

I reached into my suit pocket and pulled out a bright blue and black pokéball that promptly grew to a larger size in my palm. "105, get out here," I ordered him. Immediately following, a Marowak was summoned onto the table. "Use Bone Club on the briefcase once." The briefcase didn't look too strong, but I needn't risk my Bone Keeper Pokémon bashing away at it for the next few days by issuing an interpretable instruction. It was lucky I hadn't told him to open it, or he may have been hitting it forever. The box looked as though it hadn't been touched after being struck by a powerful move. No doubt about it, something important was inside there.

No point in worrying about it though. Whatever lay inside was almost certainly going to fuel the war, something I was not interested in doing. However, if I was to steal the object, it was possible that I could use it in a way that would slow the war, maybe even stop it! Such high hopes, I was fooling myself. But then I realized something, I no longer supported this war. That connection was more revolutionary than any I had experienced before.

"Any luck on the doors?" I called over to M083-0707.

He shook his head to tell me that he hadn't found a way to open them yet.

"Fine, M105. Try your club against the doors for a while. Let's see if they're made as strong as that last thing you hit."

A smile crossed M105-0707's face. He always enjoyed having an opportunity to strike at things. He dashed over to the door and swung with all his might, leaving a giant dent in the steel. He laughed happily as he continued to beat up the door. After a few minutes there was a hole large enough for me to climb through. I slipped a nearby taser into my pocket before leaving. Better this than lethal force. Briefcase in hand I stepped awkwardly through the smashed up gateway.

Mahogany Town, Johto
Present Day

Once night had fallen, we were on the move again. I could tell, none of the Hoenn Marines even came close to reaching this point. However, unfortunately for me, I was running out of ammo here. The last fight didn’t exactly leave me with a whole lot left in terms of munitions.

When Mahogany Town came up, I walked by it, but definitely not into it. I swore, some of those hybrids were perceptive enough to even smell me. I was a lone warrior in a totally hostile nation. However, the more I looked at them, the more I wanted to do something about it.

I still couldn’t believe how fast these hybrids tore apart our forces though. Of course they were only defending their own lands, I couldn’t blame them for that. Meanwhile, Hoenn wanted to secure the area to stop the hybrids from spreading around. Both of them had their reasons, both wrong and right at the same time. The only way to solve it… was to get to the core itself. Take out the source, hopefully start over. There was only one way of really doing that. Going back in time completely. Stopping everything before it happened.

Celebi.

They said this would be the war to end all wars. Sadly, they were right, after this, no one and nothing would be left after the havoc. I didn’t want that to happen. It wasn’t meant to happen.

And for years, I had walked upon this frozen wasteland of a planet. There was something before this. Something that existed that didn’t now. An unappreciated element and aspect of life. One that I had only seen in video files of the world that used to be, but existed no more.

There was incentive.

Life.

SLV-000001 Silver
Ilex Forest, Johto

The team just is not complete without somebody standing guard over you Silver. Do consider obtaining another Pokemon for your own safety.

"I know what kind of dangers I place myself in Hephaestus, but I do not intend to go around capturing a random wild Pokemon and subject it what Snorlax had to go through. And none of the Pokemon around here are any good at protection anyway. The closest thing would be the Geodude that lurk nearby, but considering our resources, getting it to evolve into a Golem would probably be impossible."

That's right, you never did get to name him did you?

"Mmm."

The party continued to push their way through the forest, scattering many a Bug as they passed. They did not really know where they were going, nor did they know what exactly they were doing, but they simply did it anyway, as though bound by fate. Truth be told, he had already made several connections to the back of his mind, knowing what he had to do from the moment he reached Violet City. Blame his massive repertoire of knowledge about Pokemon for this, but he was seeking something no human should ever be able to reach. The problem was whether he would be able to reach it, and whether he would be able to muster the courage to do what had to be done. Of course, every one of these fear inducing thoughts were blocked out to him, all doubts of himself were sealed by the limiters placed in his mind. He knew about the limiters, but that was not nearly enough to break their hold on him, and sometimes, even after breaking free, he was thankful for their existence.

How big is this forest anyway? How about I rip a hole straight through the front?

"No Shiva, and does it really matter how big the place is? We cannot stay in any of the cities anyway, considering the fact that I am not a hybrid."

It's not as if your genetic makeup is any less screwed than theirs really.

"Still, Loki, I have no desire to fight my way out of a lynch mob."

I would hardly mind all that much really. A proper bed would be nice.

"Shush, you have the Hypercard to go back to."

True enough.

As the four of them headed towards to middle of the forest, the rough location of the Ilex Shrine, they started to pick up their speed, the trainer feeling as though he was nearer to some goal of some kind, but unsure of what it was. Still, it was a nice feeling, one that he was never able to achieve when doing such mundane things as walking from one place to the other. Sure, he took pride in his fights, even more so in his Pokemon's battles, but never in actually completing a mission. Maybe completing a particularly hard one, but that was the reward of the process, not one of the goal. Different, but so very much the same. A subtlety that even now, the RACE could not begin to comprehend.

"Damned PHT, anyway, we're going to be camping at the next clearing we reach for now, so keep your eyes open. The trees can be treacherous when the sun is down, even if the Pokemon are just as docile as ever."

Sure thing Silver.

"... Thanks."

Unit POJ-180425
Pokémon Mansion, Cinnabar Island, Kanto

I realized now that I had been brainwashed before. Worthington Labs, the company that had created me, was no longer in control. Instead of a ruthless killer, I had now become my own person.

At the top of the staircase was another barricade, of the same make as the last one I encountered. I prepared to call forth M105-0707 to break it down. Something was out of place though. I couldn't detect what was still wrong. A light tapping noise echoed from the basement I had just left. Should I call out, even if there hadn't been a war, such a gambling chance was risky. Activated my hearing, I tried to detect whether or not the sound was hostile.

More rapid clicking was heading along the roof in my direction. The machines back in the far room down the hall made whirling hums. There was a man, by the sound of his voice, two floors above me who was whispering to himself in fear. The noise on the ceiling drew closer and by now I knew that it was either a hybrid or something else entirely.

"Got you you little killer!" screeched the ariados-hybrid as she dropped from above. "Hand over the materials, or you'll face my full might."

Did I really have time for this? I considered the possible outcomes. If I killed her, then I'd bring more unneeded attention to my actions here. If I didn't, well, I had already caused enough damage that my presence would have been known regardless.

With a sudden movement I brought out M105-0707 and M083-0707. Ground and Flying against a Bug/Poison. It wasn't the best combination, but it would have to do. Before there was time to prepare a better strategy, the attacker unleashed a Spider Web that sealed both my two pokémon and I at the top of the staircase. "O-eight-three, Air Slash. Follow up with a Bonemerang One-o-five." Both attacks landed perfectly. Flinching as she was struck by the Air Slash, the stranger had no time to react when she was by two rapid collisions that were indistinguishable from one another.

My enemy almost looked like they'd had enough, as they appeared to have used most of their energy to resist my attacks. This was only a ruse however, as the foe quickly moved in for a sucker punch on M105-0707. Anticipating the attack, I decided to have my Marowak use Swords Dance, making the Sucker Punch fail.

"False Swipe her 083!" The enemy was cast backwards, on the verge of death. I couldn't see fear in her eyes, because of their compound quality, but the body language told me all I needed to know. This foe had given up the battle, the Ariados’s legs were curled in, and she shook terribly. "That's enough, come on back," I said as I recalled the Farfetch'd.

Marowak looked at me expectantly, raising his bone in a way that clearly said, 'Which move do I kill it with?'

"Skull Bash," I told him, pointing to my target.

By the way. Do you know Mac computers suck?

IC:

Magnet Train
On way to Goldenrod, Johto

Zakuro slowly made her way on to the Magnet Train in Saffron City. It was nightfall, or at least it looked like night has settled in. Ever since the bombing night and day have taken a different feel then it was once before. Zakuro walked on to the train alone. Because of the train's rules there were no pokemon allow the train unless they are a certain height. Zakuro have rarely been out of the company of her trusted absol Selene and this was strange to her. Zakuro's senses were on high incase somebody would attack her. Still there was little threat here on a train. Soon the train began to lift off the ground and move. Zakuro looked out the window and saw that they were finally leaving the train port.

Zakuro was finally glad to leave the city and her formal job. She has finally accuire the money to countinue her life on the road and taking the Magnet Train was a faster way to get to Johto and it would take her to the heart of Johto. Still going to Johto was dangerous for her. She have heard that Johto was heavy hit with the PHT gas and had more hybrids then Kanto did. What was even worst that the hybrids there were attacking anybody that was related to the Hoenn and its allies which was bad fo Zakuro since she is a product of the thing they hated. Still Zakuro could sense that something was pulling her towards the region even if her better self tells her other wise. This second sense has always been with her and knew that it was just part of her DNA infusion of an absols. It has saved her life many times on missions but ever since she has gain this new self it has been a bit more demanding on where to go.

Trees and building wizzed by as the train was moving at high speeds. Zakuro senses were on the rise. She knew that Jotho was in a state of turmoil but most of the big cities like Goldenrod and Olivine were still in fair operation which was the reason why the Magnet Train was still in operation. Zakuro also carried a small bag with her which carried her stuff. She had accuire it a long time ago when she started her new life including the gas mask she wore at all times. She carry a few things in it including a weathered book. Books were rare in this time since everything has been converted to digital data but somehow this one have survived the test of time. Zakuro looked around to see if nobody was watching her and opened the book. There were many pages with color illusations but one that caught her eye was one of a green grass fariy called Celebi. According to the text it had the ablity to travel though time. Zakuro looked at the picture and quickly closed the book. She shove it into her bag and saw that the train was slowing down. That meant that she was almost at Goldenrod City.

The ablitiy to travel though time thought Zakuro as she looked at the gray window and saw that gray snow was sticky to it, another effect of all the figthing. Once upon a time all of this wasn't here and people weren't as deformed as they are today. If there was a way then Zakuro would try to get rid of this situation but still she knew no way to do that. Only what she had now was what she knew. The train countinue to move closer to the gray and once golden city of Goldenrod City.

River (TAM-042777)
Outskirts of Goldenrod, Johto

I was watching the city. No point in getting killed for not having enough information to blend in. Unfortunately it seemed like almost everyone in the city was a hybrid. Not that I could observe more than the fringes for now, but if that were the case it would hardly be likely that I could blend in without some pokemon features of my own. I hated being only a reader. Otherwise I could have created an illusion for myself that would make me look hybrid to anyone without psychic powers. Not that the plan would have worked even if I could have pulled it off. There could be any number of people now with similar, if not the exact same psychic powers as an Alakazam, an Espeon, or even a Hypno. They would have identified me in an instant had I run into any of them.

So, I couldn't go into the city looking as I did, not unless I wanted to be killed. I had seen from afar that the city gates had guards 24/7. Though, if it were true for me, then the likelihood that any other RACE members could get into the city, without raising one hell of a hullabuloo, were slim. Since finding other RACE people was the first objective of my self-determined mission to stop this war, it seemed like there would be little reason for me to be searching the cities since it was likely that all of them would be the same.

I returned to the small camp we had set up. <Are we going into the city yet?> Alakazam asked. He had broken out of his pokeball, but since he was now cooperating I was compelled to let him stay. "No, we're not going into the city." He looked annoyed.
<We're not? Then why have we been sitting out here spying on it all day?>
"You want me to go traipsing into a hybrid city and get my guts spilled for my trouble?"
<No.>
"We're not going into the city. There is slim to no chance that anyone like me would take the trouble of going in there anyway."
<Then what's the new plan?>
"I know that others were deployed here to Johto. But, I don't know where their battles were fought, or even if they ever reached this place. I have a feeling that some of them are here though."
<So, we go traipsing around the countryside asking at every wayward inn to see if they've seen others like you?>
"Don't be snide or I'll send you back to your pokeball." He growled at this, but didn't say anything. "Truthfully, yes I suppose we will have to go journeying around the countryside. I see no other way for us to find someone like me."

<But, we could entirely miss them, go the wrong direction.>
"Do you suggest we just hunker down and wait for them to come to us then?"
<No, we need to be moving so that anyone looking to hunt down a member of RACE won't find us.>
"Why would anyone be looking to hunt down one of us?"
<You really need to work on your spying skills.>
I glared at him "I was trained for combat, they didn't care if I could do anything else."
<Well, then read the news every once in a while.>
He handed me my PDA. It had had a news system installed. I had never known why, I had never used that system before now.

Three different articles were pulled up, each of them had the word RACE in the title.
One was from Kanto, another from Johto, the third from Hoenn. All three had a list of "rouge" RACE members. The Johto and Kanto articles stated that any RACE members caught were to be turned in to the nearest government for examination and interrogation. That certainly didn't sound pleasant. The Hoenn article had a little more information than the other two, stating the region and city that each had been sent to last, but they weren't happy with us either. They were a little more aggressive about our return. They didn't care if we returned to them dead or alive, so long as our secrets were not revealed to the Kanto and Johto scientists. Then I took a look at the listings. Of course they used our lab-experiment numbers, they didn't imagine we would have any other name. There seemed to be only a small number of us. POJ-180425, SLV-000001, NSE-714992, MAA-923666 & myself, TAM-042777. There might be more out there that Hoenn and the other regions weren't aware of, but the Hoenn article at least gave me something of a starting point.

Two of the others were at least reported to be in the same region as me, according to the Hoenn article anyway. SLV-000001 & NSE-714992. SLV's deployment was a little closer to my current position, but then again, if I stayed near, I'd be too close to where the search for me might be starting. Maybe it would be a smart move to get as far away as possible from the position from which the Hoenn Government, along with anyone else privy to the info, would start looking for me. NSE-714992 had been deployed to Blackthorn. That was the next closest, but it was definitely far enough from my current position for me to consider searching for him.

"The new plan is to search for NSE-714992." I announced after reading the three articles.
<And where will we be searching?> Alakazam asked.
"We're heading towards Blackthorn." I consulted the map of Johto on my PDA before determining our course. "We'll follow the train tracks out of Goldenrod until it crosses Route 31 then head in the general direction of Cherrygrove City before heading up along Route 46."
<Why head towards a city we don't plan to enter? Why not just stay in the wild?>
"Because, my PDA is not a GPS system and we don't have anything to tell us where we are besides the cities and landmarks on this map. I don't intend for us to get lost in the woods."
<Well then will we get going or are we gonna hang around here some more so that the bounty hunters have a good lead on us?>
I stood up, doused the fire we had made and ordered Alakazam to teleport the remains of the fire to the battlefield. He grumbled, but accomplished it for the most part. Some ash got left behind. It was better than leaving all of the remains. I scattered the remaining ash as best as possible before we left to start our search.

M105-0707 lowered his head and braced himself. He slammed at full force into my desired target. The large steel door didn't stand a chance. It curved at the impact point and then broke, leaving a disfigured hole that was head butted there in a single attack. Even knowing the Marowak's power, I was impressed by this feat of strength.

"Just club your way through what's left of it 105," I told him unpleasantly. I wasn't interested in weakening my strongest creature against a non-hostile force like a door. As commanded, M105-0707 repeatedly hit the door while I walked over to the hybrid to try and gain some information.

Noticing my approach, the half-ariados cringed. "Get away from me you monster," it hissed malevolently. Tears poured from the beast’s eyes, and it was obvious that the woman was terribly injured.

"Look who's talking," I mocked, trying not to show any signs of weakness. For a moment I paused, trying to make her feel as though she might live through this encounter if she co-operated. All memory of my present mission had left me, and I really wanted some answers. But where to begin? With a neutral expression upon my face I asked her, "What is the purpose of this facility?"

She laughed sinisterly. "You don't know?" she cackled, coughing out venom and blood. "Why have you killed us all when you have no idea what's here?" There was no reason for me to respond to her; I merely waited until she spoke up about the building's multiple functions. I tapped my foot impatiently against the steps; M105-0707 continued to bash the door to pieces at the top of the staircase, even though there was already enough room for a regular automobile to ride through. "We keep records," she finally said, finally giving in to my unyielding attitude on the matter.

"Such as?" I asked irritably. There really was no point in this time wasting, I was about to decided. So I took out the taser.

Noticing the taser she began talking quickly, "We keep records on international weapon sales as well as the sale of advanced technology. Some of the machines downstairs have lists of families in Kanto who have relatives living over seas. There is also warehouse locations and -"

Inexorably I asked her the rhetorical question, "So nothing useful then?" Mouth wide, she was at a loss for words on this matter. Apparently she believed that this information would help me. Maybe she even hoped that if she gave me all the knowledge she had, I would spare her. If I was fortunate then I would be able to exploit her facts for all they were worth. The metal briefcase, maybe she could open it up for me. "Do you have the code for this?" I asked, this time more curious than shady.

"One," she said, smiling slyly, "Is located on the third floor. A gray filing cabinet labeled restricted. Bottom drawer. It's in a room with a lot of windows." I didn't want to trust her facts, but my curiosity drove me to find a way into this heavily guarded box.

I tasered her and it knocked her out instantly. Whatever was in this suitcase had better be good if it was this much trouble getting into it. It might be worth it to get some background knowledge on the people working this place. Strangely, the woman's lab coat had a name tag that merely said theorist. I could only remember one other location where people didn't share their names at the workplace, and instead all used aliases, the lab where I was born. This connection brought back an uncomfortable chain of blurred and unwanted memories.

"We're going up to the third floor," I told M105-0707. He pointed to a nearby exit, but put his arm down when I shook my head. "C'mon," I urged him, "Let's find out what's in this heavily secured and restricted object." From his eyes, I could tell that under M15-0707's skull he was frowning. This annoyed me somewhat, so I recalled him to his pokéball and slipped it into my pocket. I don't need company anyway.

SLV-000001 Silver
Ilex Forest, Johto

"I read somewhere that once upon a time, people used to camp for fun. Must be nice."

You kidder. Nobody would expose themselves to this crap for the heck of it.

"It's your beliefs Loki. It was just something I picked up while running around."

Twisted uncomfortably in his ill-gotten sleeping bag, having looted it, amongst other things, from the laboratory where he was based in, Silver tried to rest, knowing full well that rest was a weapon. The greatest weapon, for many an army had fallen simply because they lacked the energy and the will to fight. One could only operate on adrenaline for so long after all. So he knew he had to rest, preferably to sleep, and maybe even to dream, but it could not be done. Perhaps it was because the ground was rough, or maybe it smelt like mud, or perhaps the sound of Hoothoot doing their thing that kept him awake this night. It was not particularly important to know why, but simply to know that it was so, that he could not sleep. He was restless, even though his body cried for release.

"I can't sleep."

I could always try a Hypnosis on you.

"You know as well as I do that will not work. My body has been built to be able to resist sensory attacks, or all your screaming would have left my ears bloody by now."

True enough. Maybe Hephaestus could just knock you out.

"He would not do that, would you Hephaestus?"

Probably not, depends on my mood.

"Heh..."

Squirming until he managed to prop himself in his cocoon of a sleeping bag, the RACE sighed and closed his eyes, hoping that this time, when he opened them again, it would be morning. Nights were growing longer and longer by the day though, no matter how odd that sounded. The nuclear winter had encouraged clouds to blot out both moon and sun every day, though the area they were in were thankfully spared from this fate. Nonetheless, as long as they were in this forest, the trees would serve as their shade, blocking out all but the sun of high noon. Thankfully, Silver's eyes were well suited to work in any circumstance, but it was still rather irritating to have to remove his sunglasses to walk without tripping. It made him susceptible to things like random Pokemon using Flash, and occasionally, even his own Hephaestus' flame, when he was close enough. It was not permanently damaging, and he was already amazingly resistant to light change considering the power of his eyes, but sometimes, amazing was not enough.

Amazing was not enough, eh? Appropriate, and fit into so many circumstances, like with Snorlax for one.

Amazing was not enough...

With that thought running through his head, Silver drifted away to dream, in the sitting position that he was.

How come we don't have a discussion thread? I have a question.

According to Tiana I should get killed. haha We see if I will in this RP.

IC:

Goldenrod City

Zakuro walked off the train. She could see many hybrids on the other side of the train gate. Zakuro was a bit nervous but like always she never let it showed on the surface. Zakuro knew that she was didn't need to show any feeling because there was none to be shown. She took a quick look around her to see the other what-so-left humans around her. They were dressed in somewhat wrinked suits or either dressed a bit messy but all of them, like her, were wearing black gas masks to be uneffected by the PHT gas. Zakuro took a deep breath and was able to breath in the air. Still the gas doesn't effect her but she still acts as if it does.

Goldenrod was a fortress. It wasn't always like this but from history text she was able to gather this verison of Goldenrod was developed after the war. It was to ensure that her kind and Hoenn to stay out of the city while making sure that its people were save. This fortified verson of the city was countinued and added on once the city became a hybrid majority. Still people from Kanto, mostly Safforn were allow to enter the city via Magnet Train because some people made a living in Goldenrod City. Just because there are hybrids in Johto and Kanto doesn't mean that it's whole scuture of living was gone. Buisness still was made and products countinue to be made. Life was still life even in this war era.

Zakuro then looked up when the words inspection was heard. She then saw that the line she was in was leading her to a hypno hybrid in a guard uniform.

OOC:

Short I know but work is calling.
