Default Avatar Problems

Everytime I try to get an avatar, it says that it is not a valid image file.

Yeah, save it as .png and/or make it 100 x 100.

As you're saving it, click the drop-down bar that says: Save as Type, and click PNG (*.PNG).

I will try that.

EDIT: I keeps saying: "This BMP image has the incorrect file extension."

Right click the file, click edit, and it will open paint. Click Save as, and then click the .png option.

Alternatively, you can right-click the file click rename, and if you can see the file extension (in this case .bmp) highlight .bmp and type in .png

There you have it.

Open it again, and re-save it using the 'Save As' option, then choose .PNG as the file type.

Yeah, sometimes, the uploading system can't tell that it's a .PNG even if it has the correct extension because it recognizes the data in the image as being that of a Bitmap. Just use the 'Save As' function and re-save it as a .PNG, and hopefully that will work.

EDIT: Grr. . . Nick beat me to it. >___>;

Do you mean the 'Save As' function, or the .PNG extension? What program are you using to save the avatar?

Are you sure? Paint always has the save as option. If all else fails you could upload it to photobucket, imageshack, etc. and use the url it gives you.

Then upload it using this place: http://www.imageshack.us/ or http://www.photobucket.com/ or the likes. Put the url it gives you in the option 1 box (in the avatar options tab).

Edit: when you have clicked save as, the .png option is here:
