Default Pokemon emotional reaction ideas for my fic...

Okay, I've come to a part in my fic where I thought you very smart fellow members could help me with ideas about an emotional reaction:

Say you are a pokemon, not freshly hatched, but young. Now then suppose you and your human are very good friends, you have no bad feelings about being a human owned pokemon, becuase it is all you know, basicly being a pet...

Now your human out of the blue one day takes you out of our pokeball and says 'Guess what? We are going to start battling!"...(and not only that, but he is starting you from the get go on gym battles, not random trainer ones)

Keep in mind that up untill this point you have never heard of battles untill he tells you about them...

What is your reaction?

(In my fanfic battling is a normal part of a wild pokemon life, meaning it is built in to a pokemon mind at some level, like the human need to hunt etc. Still, it is not just a switch that can be clicked on at the meer thought of battle...)

I'd be excited first (The prospect of battling sounds fun), then horrified later on when I found out what battles really were.

Maybe you could use this?

EDIT: Can you check out my thread in this section please?

Since themes like "inner/lost instinct", "evolution of the heart" and the "will to fight" are themes I like to cover in Distanced Hurricane, I'd guess I'd be very very confused about the subject but for the sake of the human I call my lifelong friend give it a go...

...It might be a disaster as I still probably won't get it being so overly domesticated and won't know how to use my claws/talons/etc the way a wild or tamed for battle Pokemon should.

And since my human would mean the world to me, I might end up really injured as an end result.

Thank you for your help :) I know that many people don't really think about this issue or gloss over it altogether and just have the pokemon hop to battling...
Actually I just said it was this sort of pokemon becuase it as near a mindset as I can get for what I am writing, and I don't want to give anything away. But anyone who is reading my story will know where I am going with this

It depends really on the temper of the pokemon itself. Depending on how you've shaped the pokemon's base personality, its reaction to this revelation would be different. A more bashful one might be excited, while a more timid one would be afraid, or at least cautious until the first battle (in which they become afraid). Whether or not the pokemon itself is young is relevant only to the point that the experience is likely magnified to a larger extent than it should.
