Default Pe2K Presidential Debates

Welcome to the PE2K Presidential Debates. I am now the appointed judge of this debate for all the parties participating. Here's how it's going to work:

I will be posting a question from time to time and ANY of the candidates fromt he 5 parties may post here, answering the question. There is a 500 word limit for such answers (that's plenty of room and then some).

Like most presidential debates, I will allow 1 single refuting post for the same question from each candidate (ie a second post usually to go up against someone else's post or the like). These will have a word limit fo 100 words (i.e. 20% of the original word count) to keep the posts short and such.

ANY NON CANDIDATES' POSTS ON THIS WILL BE DELETED.
However, if anyone wants to PM me a question to be posted for the candidates, they are free to, but make sure it's here by well tomorrow.

The debates will be held with a question today (where candidates can only answer the most CURRENT question), tomorrow (Just one single question for the day), and on Monday (again, a single question). Enjoy the debates, and have fun biting each other's heads off.

The first question comes from Samuel L. Johnson from the small bergs of Announcements Thread:

"Candidates, how would you, if elected, plan to prepare anouncements for alternative events outside of the announcements thread?" (wtf? I have no idea where these questions are spawning either. Just go with the flow. lol)

Well Kenny, I'd like to thank you for moderating this debate, and the fine people of the University of Karnoff for hosting us here tonight.

Uh, if I were elected by this board's fine members, President of PE2K, I solemnly swear to prepare announcements the only way a good Global Senerator knows how to: with a bigass megaphone. We received over 5 million bigass megaphones last year from Samson & Sons, and yet my competitors haven't even smelt the packages they came in, let alone even looked at the neat-o designs on the front.

I continually tried to pass a law making the usage of these machines a requirement; it's a damn good law: it lets everyone hear new news, NOT just the hachimaki few who happen to be urinating in the Announcements board at any given day of the week. By switching to this system, 259% of all announcements would be seen by the commonwealth. That's a 386-decibel increase form what we're experiencing today. And yet, I ran it by Kim. Rejected. Treecko. Ignored. Neo. Refuted. Fair. Crapped upon.

And, do you know why my law was rejected? It's because they're too busy reveling in the fecal matter of the corporations! The corporations are the ones killing snow bunnies for earmuffs; elephants for condoms; h4x0r'z computers for n00b proliferation!

Can any of these faceless hobos really be considered presidential material?

There are other alternatives than placing every announcement in the announcement thread. Only Ryan himself has access to placing new threads within this location, so there needs to be consideration for the events that other members plan on hosting and partaking in.

I consider all of those announcements in the announcements thread to be issued for the entire forum. These usually deal with how the forum is run, as well as Ryan’s plans to keep the forum’s progression and to develop it even further. Here members can’t create the threads, but they are welcome to provide feedback.

Meanwhile, there is another place for events that are being hosted by other members. While it is necessary to obtain permission from those with authority, the PE2K forum maintains a competitive advantage over other forums for the fact that members are welcome to bring up new ideas to make the forum more interactive and enjoyable, where other forums would usually scorn and cast away ideas brought up by members simply by assuming that only the moderation team should be entitled to host such events. I believe it’s critical that we keep this competitive advantage, and be willing to listen to what other members feel may be good for the forum.

Events that were created by the members and not Ryan can easily be placed in the “Today’s Events” area at the bottom of the main forum page. This helps get the word out, and makes the whole forum aware of all the events that are going on. Usually, the events placed here have more member involvement, since announcements regarding events like the war or a URPG tournament can be placed there.

There are also situations where events can be announced in single particular boards. Some boards only attract certain audiences, and sometimes it may be advantageous for the announcement to be made there rather than to declare the announcement to the entire forum.

I feel this is the best approach toward getting the word out to make everyone aware of what is going on, and how it involves them.

N8, all I have to say in response to your compelling argument is, wow - you can say such borderline profane words as damn, ass, crap and condom on these forums? Damn, that's badass! I've always wanted to throw them into my posts just for fun, but I've been afraid that I'd get crap from the Mods because of it! Kewl! Now, if you'll excuse me, I must go crap into a condom and throw it at some old people while screaming, "DAYYYYYYUM!".

Oh, wait, before I do, I should probably say that if I'm elected president, I shall solve the Announcement problem by taking two and calling you in the morning. Why, you ask? Well, I'm not sure, actually. But, my doctor says that to me alot, so that must mean it'll make things better, right? RIGHT?!?!?

*Takes Meds*
*Calls Doctor*

Yup! Right!

Today's question is from Georgina Galapogus from the entirely small world of Other fan fiction (which is in a different league from the Other RP):

"Candidates, if you were elected, how will you help promote the 'Other fan fiction' portion of the forums so that we can actually get money from tourism and not have to eat canned perishable food items that were donated to us from Other Chat that had gone through its expiry date by 3 months?"

Samuel's comment on this question: "YOUR MOM! DAMN!"
*Samuel was "escorted" out of the building, and was never seen by anyone ever again.*

Actually, to tell the truth, it’s not very easy to get a non-Pokémon fan fiction attention around here. After all, this is a Pokémon forum, and just about all of us are here or at least came here at one point with that attribute in mind. In short, it’s up to the readers to decide what they’re in the mood for.

In truth, people can’t be forced to read another person’s stories, that isn’t fair to them. Instead, I would recommend the writers themselves to advertise their own stories in their sigs or in Daily Chit Chat. Sometimes, just a little exposure to what the story is about may capture someone’s interest. It’s really up to the author themselves on how they would like to present their stories to other people. No one else can really promote their story for them, for it will probably won't be presented in the way the real author would want to have their work exposed.

If members really want to get the word out on their story, even if it is in Other Fan Fiction, the best ways to do it is mention it in the chats and tell others what the story is about and/or make a banner for it and put it in their sig. So far I haven’t seen this done when it is a possible solution to expose people to what the story is about. To me, I think this would be the best solution by giving the story itself some exposure that may draw people to read it if it captures their interest.

A good question to address.

While, yes, this is a pokemon forum, that doesn't mean that other sections that are non-Pokemon specific should suffer. The truth is there is only one section for Other Roleplaying and Other FanFiction. Members feel that since we don't focus on Other FanFiction, there really isn't a demand for it.

The solution to this is organized competition. If we want to ignite a passion for the fan fictions, we need to create an event in which other fan fictions will be in demand. Competition has constantly demonstrated increased participation and that goes to same for any of the sections: roleplaying, groups, and fanfiction.

After the details of the event are settled, including judging and the type of story, the event could easily be advertised on the forum with the calendar, announcements thread, and even the announcements stickied thread that moderators have access to.

If the event is successful, there will surely be more audience for the fanfictions and stronger support for the section. In time, perhaps the other Fan Fictions will earn a section of its own.

This is from the good men of Other Chat. Theychose to remain annon.

"Candidates, with the recent success of the Other Chat forums, how will you use this gain in momentum and how will you spend the money generated from the Other Chat forums?"

Good question. I shall use the money obtained from the Other Chat forums to do what any smart forum member would do if they were elected President - I'll spend it by making Bob Dole action figures! And, to go along with my new risqué envelope pushing theme, they'll be special talking Bob Dole action figures that, when you push their little talky button, will say "DAYUUUUUUM!" and throw condoms at old people. It'll be great family fun. Heck, for added value, I'll even make them come alive in the middle of the night and kill people! I mean, who in the world hasn't wished for their own serial killer action figure?

Oh, and I'll also build a shelter for all the homeless squirrel children whose parents have been killed off by the other, dirty, heartless candidates.

The Other Chat has constantly proved throughout this forum's history to be one of the most active sections. It is a great place where members can simply gather, chat, and socialize. Indeed, the area promotes harmony and understanding.

It is because of this importance that the Other Chat remains a key part on my list. Let's face it, we need a moderator. Before the Proboards Deletion, PE2K had Sophie. She worked diligently to bring together a wonderful and organized Other Chat section. But now, we have disorganization. True, the MOTM is running smoothly thanks to the dedicated individual like VT, but there is so much more that can be done. If we can simply find the right person for this task, we can make Other Chat a better place. We can make the forum a better place.

Winter is here and the major holidays are just around the corner. We need to be ready for them and create the best forum for the best time of year.

It's time to look ahead to the future.
