Title: This Summer

Submission:

Itís every childís fantasy,
To have a summer full of ecstasy,
Like playing in the sun,
Until the day is done,
To frolicking in sprinklers,
The result soggy sneakers,
Every kid knows,
That when those school bells ring,
A final bring,
The fun will begin.

Finally!
The feeling of cool, gooey sun block,
Children splashing Ďround their pool in a big flock,
The sun warm on their backs,
As the parents sit and relax,
Drinking their beer,
For they know that the summer is here.

Mosquitoes are swarming,
To give off a warning,
That the first day of summer,
Though itís a big bummer,
Has come to an end,
The only hope being that everyone can spend,
The rest of those three blazing months,
This summer.

-------------

At least I tried... Though my self-esteem is dwindling...

Title: Summer's on!

Submission:

Smell the summer air,
It worsens my hay fever.
Hang at the beach.
Is there a spot free, ever?
Feel the cool breeze come through your open window.
And let the mosquitoes suck your dry.
They tell you to like summer.
Donít ask me why.

Schoolís out,
So why am I down?
No exams and no homework.
So why do I frown?
The warm summer air beats the damp class rooms.
I can play outside.
I can do what I damn want.
Even do the craziest things, right?

Cause Iím off.
Iíve got my summer holidays.
Enough time to spend my hours.
I can go unlimited ways.
Itís my damn summer vacation.
I can darn well do what I want.
If I canít do it today,
Well, I still have till the end of next month.

Title: Tenpi no Nagare [Stream of the Sun]

Lemonade, Lemonade.
The hottest thing this Summer!
No, I don't mean its sweating;
Rather, its cool and refreshing.

(Get to the real point, Idiotblazer!)

Summer is the time for fun,
For trips to beaches and forests galore!
To enjoy the heating rays,
But beware the UV blares!
To see the chipmunks that scatter about,
And the Squirrels that pounce around.
The (possible) Monkeys that chase for bananas,
As well as the mosquiotes that buzz for blood.

(Tasty, they are.)

Summer, the time where the box office lives,
With shows like 300 and Shrek the Third.
Good ol' Jackie as he tosses the eight,
And Parker as he twirls, spins and flies!
Cars that transform, Penguins that surf,
Plus may other things that's in that turf!

(That make no sense, you see.
Ah, shaddup, Lucied.)

Summer the time for fun and joy,
Though where I live, its summer all year.
But that dosen't stop me from playing all em' Shooters.
While I drive my RCT three
And down some zombies in good ol' Doom,
Not to mention feeling teh Zoom.
So you should know about the Stream Of The Sun;
The Tenpi no Nagare is always there plus fun.

Summer is here
Its time for fun
Burn your books
And do a dance
Nothing to care about for months

Just run around in the bright warm sun
Jump in the pool
Go have a blast
Its so much a river of fun
so come join in

Forget your troubles
Watch tv and play video games
For its all the same
Since summer is here
Don't wait around
Otherwise it'll be gone before you know it.

NOTE! I took a different route with this than just summer, since you wanted it to be open, and pushed the love/happiness theme much more. But I threw summer in there.. And "lachrymatory" concerns the funtion of making tears, and the FIRST syllable is enunciated, so you will find it still fits the foot.

Name: Matt
Team: Syndicate
Title: Perfect Words

Flowing like a dandelion seed across the sky,
Words of glee and amity fly crooked and awry.
I watch the words “I care for you” zoom quickly down the way,
They glare in sun and grant sweet shade that cuts the heat of day.

“I care for you as well, my friend,” the words I see return.
They nearly hit my head, I duck, a man not grand, but stern.
Why one would dip and dodge such careful words I care to know,
Any gracious man would stand and interrupt the flow.

A man quite like myself would feel it not but waves of heat,
The stifling air of summer raising grimness from my feet.
But out there are not men like me; they seem to be at ease.
If only summer days could bring me smiles such as these.

So stand up tall, I tell myself, and throw those words right back.
To find this blissful lachrymatory I seem to lack.
I catch the string of bold, black birds and pitch them to a friend,
They jumble up and rearrange, as separate letters bend.

As so close to perfection bend,
“I love you as a perfect friend.”

Well... I wasn't expecting to give a 20 score but Matt's entry was pretty much flawless. Congratulations, keep that up. As the scores show there's a tie for the second point between KB, FFK and Neo. Personally, I loved the way Neo adapted the brief by using sarcasm to bring the uplifting element in. KB's was very well written but the misplaced "thoughts" or whatever they were let it down a little in this case. I'm sorry, it's funny but it's not what I'm looking for. Finally, FFK, I'm afraid your piece just didn't stand out like these two for any special reason, as technically sound as it was. You barely missed out this time.

Matt (Syndicate) and Neo (Swarm) get the points this week, I'll put the next challenge up in a moment.

HomesSchooling
Defense

Away from the immaturity
Away from the drama.
Being taught at home
By your brilliant mama.

Being taught in a different way may not be so bad.
Leaving your friends may be hard and sad.
A new way to learn may bring impact on your life.
But you'll someday become successful and have a husband or wife.

Against

Preparing you for the real world is what public school does for you.
Hanging out with peers is what you do.
The same experience can be bad and good
but teachers would change it if they could.

Sports, Drama, and love is essential
But you secret love is what you'll keep confidential.
Hope you learned something from this haiku
I am brilliant and so are you.
