Re: Here is the Canadian Government
Well essentially right now our democratic system is causing a huge policy backlash on the government. We have essentially 4 main parties of varying power: Liberals (most), Conservatives aka Tories (second, leader of opp.), Bloc Quebecois, and New Democratic Party (NDP).
Right now the Liberals have less than 50% of the seats, thus the voting process only requires the Tories and Bloc to team up to completely nullify ANY and ALL bills the Liberals are trying to pass. The result is the government not doing ANYTHING AT ALL.
So what can we do? See NDP? If they join with the Liberals, the Liberals will have >50% of the seats. Then the opposition would then be nullified. The catch is that the Liberals are at the complete mercy of NDP, meaning any bill they want to pass must get the nod from the MDP before they can do anything. This is actually BETTER than a majority government for the people, since now 2 contrasting parties have power on the bills, and the changes within the bills would be much more appropriate and generally less dramatic/evil.
HOWEVER, my article actually says that Martin (our Prime Minister, equivalent of the President to the US) wants to use this bill as an excuse to start another election to try for majority government...*sigh*
