Default The fake battles on the anime

Is it just me or are the battles u c on the anime super fake? Its unbelieviable how much damage ash's pokemon can take and yet still win with one pathetic move. For example, remember the opening credits for the first pokemon movie, squirtle vs machamp. Machamp was owning squirtle until squirtle ko'ed him with a bubble or bubblebeam attack. When it was ash's charizard vs gary's blastoise at the johto league, blastoise was successful with its hydro pump on several occasions but yet charizard prevailed. I know the anime and the games are different but the battles in the anime should somewhat reflect the the games.

Ash has to win.He is the main character.
Also this is a kids show so when Ash says something like "Get up!" they will get up.I mean in the first movie he died and the tears brought him back to life.It is a kids show so he has to win (even if it is in a dumb, not possible, way).

It is a kids show, you shouldn't be taking things so seriously...

There's reasoning behind it, though, if you take into account the stuff from PMD.

Pokémon have "IQ" levels. The more they train, the more average their IQ will be. If the Pokémon has been in other events like contests or special marathon events like the skateboarding egg race, their IQ will rise. With higher IQ, they can react to certain things with a better effect. Gary's Blastoise must have had a lower IQ than that of Charizard, so Charizard outsmarted Blastoise while still obeying Ash's commands.

Also, if it's in the opening credits, don't believe it. =P

The anime cannot be compared to the games in terms of battling because there are two different styles of battling altogether. Anime battling is about agility, determination, timing and luck. Stats, levels and to a certain extent type advantages, don't enter the equation.

When the show goes on comercial break, Ash rips out his Game Shark/Action Replay and makes his pokemon into ubers. It's obvious, really. What else do you think they do right then, go to the bathroom? ._____. Why else would Taillow/Swellow survive Thunder repeatedly?

No, that's not what happens. Ash is the main character, soz, if he loses alot, the show will fail.

They are convicable to little kids, but not much to teenagers so I would say there 50% fake.

well, what else could the creators think of? the idea is that ash, and his pokemon r all adamant, skilled, and brave(too serious for this children show i kno) oh oh he is "determined"?? it's ur brains, not ur attitude, i mean could a 10 year old kid win a fight(not talking about pokemon battling) with an adult just because he's determined?i don't think so..and how could all-time crappy pre-evolved pokemon take so much hits(pikachu is just too much for too little)omg i could probably list a whole long list of things that don't make sense in the anime

LOL. Maybe that's what happens.

Not. Its a kid's show, and I agree the battles are really fake, Pikachu can give real high damage to ground pokemon, Swellow survives thunder and so on. But Ash has to win, he's the main char, or else the kids won't like it.

But sometimes, I really wish Ash would lose. At least twice.
And sometimes I hope ash will take a break and have someone substitute him for a while. You know, like in South Park, Kenny dies and Butters substitutes him for a while. Then the fans asked for kenny's return, and they brought him back.

Maybe that's what should happen.

Anyway, back to the topic. THAT's why you should never put Anime-style battles into your fanfic.

Ash is a very pashionet trainer and his Pokemon are strong because of the tight bond they share

Ah... Heartbreaking. But take into account the "tight bonds" are usually made around pre-evolved cutie pokemon.
