Default How did you train your Pokemon?

When you had your First Pokemon Game, or any game, what were your training methods, to make them stronger?

EV training with a Macho Brace + Vitamins in whatever stat I'm trying to max out (like Carbos for Speed).

I just trained them. It took a really long time. But I've found out it goes a lot faster if you make the Pokemon you're training hold the Exp. Share. And training in Victory Road helps, too.

Well, for me, I would just Battle Wild Pokemon until I got up to level 50, and then I went and challenged the Elite Four. That is, after I beat them the first 10 times.

I rebattle people a lot in LG, or for wild battles I go where the pokemon give the most experience points. As long as one pokemon in my team can handle those, then I can eventually get the whole team up with experience share.

And it's fun to bring a freshly hatched pokemon to take on the Elite 4 with the rest of your team. The young'un with Exp. Share of course.

Heh, I only battle Pokemon (either wild or Trainer) that give the right points for the sts I'm maxing out (such as Machamp for Attack, Donphan for Defense, etc). I'm big on EV training Pokemon, but you can't really do it effectively until you've beaten the E4 at least once.

Once my Pokemon's EVs are maxed, I give them a Lucky Egg, which doubles experience points earned. Then I raise them to level 80 and start on a new Mon.

Does EV training require math? I would do it, but it seems like I would have to write stuff down, and that seems dumb. I also thought that for every 3EV in one stat your pokemon gains a point. When I tried EV training for speed by destoying zubats the speed seemd to go up normally.

Until I found this site, I battled everybody just to level them up. Now, I use Vitamins+Macho Brace+Another Game(So I can get the famous 3 EV Giving Pokemon).

@ Saremu: It requires some math, and it takes 4 EV's to go up a point in stats, not 3, that's why it went up normally.

Lemme look them up. They're Pokemon that can be obtained a somewhat-low levels. Beating them gives 3 EVs to a stat, so beating one twice gives you enough EVs to go up 1 point. I'll PM you when I find them.

It is a good idea to keep track of how many EVs you've gained while doing EV training, so you know when you're done and don't have to guess. And yes, each stats takes 4 EV points before it gets an extra point...so say Speed normally goes up by two. You only fight three Zubat, it's still only going to go up by two at the next level. If you fight three, you'll get 3 points. Meh, you should check out Serebii's info on EV training...

Any third-stage Pokemon gives 3 EV points, and all Legends give you 3 points as well, I believe. Again, you could check Serebii's EV charts to find out.

When I started out, not very well. I rarely bothered to even do it, so it was no surprise that I couldn't beat Gary and had tons of trouble with Gyms and E4. Most of the time rather than battling I'd just catch high levelled Pokemon from VR and expect it to work out that way.

I have. It is amazing to me how complex they have made these games.

I'm going to raise...
Taillow
Adamant Nature(+Attack, -Sp.Attack)
Max HP on Whismirs
Max Speed on Zubats
Max Attack on probably Poochyenas
If I could pull off max D and SpD I would.

Does anyone know what stats a Serious nature affects? It isn't on Serebii's list.

Serious is one of five Natures that don't affect any stat.
