Default [OTHER][IA] WASTELAND: Survival in the Post-Apocalyptic world!

WASTELAND
Survival in the post-apocalyptic world of 2277!

In the year 2077, the entire world was destroyed in roughly two hours in an event known as the Great War. Great feats of science were achieved in this time, and though a lot of pre-war stuff is just junk now, some of it still works. Fight for your survival in the Manhattan wasteland, scavenging supplies and weapons from the remains of the world two hundred years ago, fighting off crazed humans, robots, and monsters of all kinds.

The world of Fallout is full of possibilities; who knows what intricate plots and pre-war marvels you can dig up in Manhattan? The Wasteland is at your fingertips in Wasteland, an interactive adventure brought to you by Vault-Tec, Rob-Co and the Nuka Cola Company! Enjoy your stay in Manhattan!

According to what you've gleaned out of rarely found books and smart people who know otherwise, you've managed to piece together a few things. 1) The world was oblitterated (mostly) by a nuclear apocalypse two hundred years ago, 2) The world is filled with leftover treasures just waiting to be found and sold to the highest bidder. And so eager you were to start your hunting, you left for the remains of Manhattan Island, New York. No idea what might still be around, you know?

Your first impression is buildings. Lots of still-standing, half-roasted-and-collapsed buildings, some with power others dark as that thing you saw growing in an old broken-down toilet that tried to attack you. The second impression you get is WOW, this place is going to be hard to navigate. Not sure on what to start with first, you consult your trusty Vault Dweller's Survival Guide, a book you found scavving in the downtown Brooklyn area. In the bag you also see your basic supplies-- some food, water, extra clothes, and a spare pistol with a bundle of spare parts shoved into the bottom.

Surviving in the Nuclear Aftermath!
Congratulations on your acceptance into Vault 108, MR or MISS >Smudge<! In the unlikely event a nuclear apocalypse does occur, please be sure to report ASAP to your assigned Vault! And if you are one of those to leave the Vault in the aftermath, here are some survival tips for you to consider!

-Always carry an ample supply of food and water! In the ruins of the old world, you're sure to find plenty of food lying around, but be sure to save plenty for the road!
Not having been helped, you close your Vault Dweller's Survival Guide and look around. It looks like a skyscraper with lights still on is open, judging by the massive cockroach that just crawled out of the broken window. Across the street is a big sign that has a strange symbol on it and an arrow, with the word 'REFUGEES' beneath it. Weird.

After a bit of boredom, and seeing that sunrise won't be for a little while, you pull out your trusty Vault-Tec Industrial Flashlight and start to put on a shadow puppet show. Then you remember that drawing attention to yourself as a maniac whose first action is to make shadow puppets is probably a bad thing, and cut out the puppets. Wuh oh, too late. A guy runs by you screaming about aliens coming for him, and-- Hey, he dropped a nice big bag of caps and a new gun for your arsenal! Unfortunately for you, it seems that the crazy man wasn't quite running from an alien, per-say, but he was definitely running from something unpleasant.

You've seen Ghouls before; they're humans who've been doused in massive amounts of radiation and been unfortunate enough to survive. Something like zombies, really, though they still bled just the same if you shot them, as you'd found out. Ferals were the ones you had to watch out for though; they were completely insane, and they went after anything that wasn't a Ghoul. Like you.

Thank goodness you had the foresight to draw out your 10mm pistol! A well-placed shot right between the eyes would take down lower-class ferals like these, and indeed it did... although now there were gooey chunks all over the street. Someone was going to have to clean that up later. Feeling cheery about your accomplishment of killing a Ghoul, you take a peek into the bag the crazy running man dropped and find a nice store of caps! And better, he was nice enough to drop a nifty laser pistol right there! Too bad it's only got about four shots left in the energy cell. Maybe you'll find more somewhere, but for now it looks like your laser pistol is going on backup duty. With that out of the way, you proceed into the abandoned skyscraper.

From the looks of it, someone's been here recently, and it looks like whoever it was didn't end up being lucky enough to survive, if the... decor... wasn't enough of an indicator. There wasn't anything of interest on this floor however. A staircase was visible in the flickering overhead light, however, and it didn't sound like there was anything still alive in here. Of course, if you were actually scared, you wouldn't have been such a great scavenger back in Brooklyn. In hindsight, maybe you should have brought some heavier artillery than a 10mm pistol.

After considering your options, you take a look around the bombed-out building. It looks like someone was already scavenging in this building, but you manage to find quite a few useful items to stuff into your bag. After a while, you find a holotape hidden in a desk, with what looks like an intercom next to it. Curious, you pop the holotape into your Pip-Boy 3000 and play it.

"Welcome <Insert Name Here>! This facility is monitored by military personnel and automata at all times! Please leave the building unless you have proper security clearance!" Says the voice from the holotape. But you've had worse! You can take whatever dinky combat robots you find in the building! ... However, you aren't confident about your ammunition supplies. You might can take on these robots, but you might run out of ammo doing so.

You decide to investigate in the only way you know how; flinging open the nearest door with dramatic flair as you hold your weapon high. You realize this is a bad idea when the first thing you encounter is made if metal. Shooting it just got its attention, which is a bad thing you've learned. This particular robot is a Protectron; human sized and with two arms and legs, big and slow moving. They also don't have a rotating head, just a glass dome on a stalk with lights inside. You also remember they have strong lasers that gave you a nasty scar on your arm last time you ran in to one of them.

"HOSTILE TARGET DETECTED. LAW ABIDING CITIZENS PLEASE STAND CLEAR OF COMBAT ZONE," the machine droned in a monotone. Your second shot managed to crack the glass on the thing's head... but that didn't do much. Now the lasers whizzing towards you were split like a shotgun blast, and getting hit by the three that did get you hurt. A lot. Just as bad as you remember from Brooklyn. Maybe you can get around the thing or something... or just run away until you get some better weaponry. But then, destroying the thing would probably net you some energy cells for that laser pistol you picked up. You really wish you hadn't left your Gauss Rifle back in Brooklyn with the sister.
