Default The dangers of ACTA

A world-wide bill is being rammed through the Western countries in an effort to control the internet again.

Who is involved and what does it do?

Polish riots.

*sigh* When are these idiots going to stop??? This is just freaking crazy, they're not only trying to control the internet across the globe, they wanna control trade now, too? I dunno about anyone else, but when I think South Korea, I think knockoff designer bags for cheap, and I've heard piracy in China is pretty bad as well... This isn't going to end well, it really isn't going to end well...

We were actually just talking about this in AP English today, and I didn't recognize ACTA, but the girl who mentioned it obviously didn't understand just how far it went...she said it was like SOPA for Europe, she was very much wrong, this is a LOT worse. Now we have even more to debate about tomorrow morning. Ugh, what a mess...

I am surprised that this hasn't gotten as much attention as it should.

It's not quite as extreme as SOPA.

The law is worldwide. The law mandates that Internet Service Providers shutdown internet connections for people who have violated copyright laws.

What is ACTA?

Anonymous attacked Polish government sites and encourage people to protest ACTA even further.

Anonymous doing something isn't going to change much of anything, as much as I hate to say it.

Anonymous is being counterproductive. Guys like them is why lawmakers want laws like this.

Lawmakers want to pass bills like these because it would allow them to monopolize and control what we do on the web. As if conventional laws could not control piracy. *bows head to the death of Megaupload*

...Nah, still hate Anonymous. PSN, that is all.

When will they stop trying to control our Internet activities?! Honestly.

Something like this will just do more harm than any good. Why can't they understand that?

First of all, Anonymous hacked the PSN because Sony sued a person for jailbreaking his Playstation 3. This is against the law, yes, but they had the gall to bring the features back right after said jailbreak. A common misconception is that Anonymous was behind the thousands of credit card thefts, which is obviously not true. Anonymous is a vigilante group, out to right wrongs done by people. May I supply a link of all their operations? They began with an anti-racist defacement of Habbo.

Also, to point out, Sony supported SOPA and PIPA since its early stages.

Hey, I don't support either side. Anonymous opened up PSN to some credit-stealing idiot, and Sony took 3 WEEKS to announce it officially. A rep said in an interview, "We responded in three weeks. You're telling me those three weeks weren't fast enough?" That is exactly what I, and many others, say. One week, I could understand, but 3? Only reason I'm still signed up to PSN is because without, LBP2 would not be the game it is.

Anonymous did not intentionally open it up to credit card thieves. It took Sony so long to even react to the Anonymous' actions, it was not even funny. Sony has always failed hard. They are like the Apple of the gaming/television industry. Neat, clean looking hardware, but insanely overpriced.
