Oh, did I enjoy the calculations on this.

Artillery, first get in front of Sparkle and throw up a Protect to block the Confuse Ray, and if you can, the Mud-slap. Sparkle, while Artillery is protecting you, let's get some light in here with Sunny Day. Once the sun is up, Artillery, I want you to hit Ralts with a Flare Blitz. Sparkle, just hang back for a moment and use Rock Polish to improve on your speed.

Artillery: Protect@Sparkle~Flare Blitz@The Poorly Named Ralts
Sparkle: Sunny Day~Rock Polish

Although the stadium was empty, both of the trainers felt as if they were being watched and cheered on by a large crowd. I studied the four pokémon who stood on the brown dirt which made up the battlefield. To my left were Lord Fedora’s champions: Artillery the Magby and Sparkle the Lileep. Artillery spat a few flames from his mouth while his partner made sure she was firmly attached to the ground before they turned to face their opponents. These were a Shinx and a Ralts, named Pants and Raltsey. Pants snarled at Fedora’s pokémon angrily, making them shiver and back down a little – they weren’t as eager to get close up with this dog any more.

Round One

Lord Fedora

[Artillery] Magby (M)

HP: 100%
Energy: 100%
Condition: A little intimidated; -1 Attack
Moves: Protect ~ Flare Blitz

[Sparkle] Lileep (F)
HP: 100%
Energy: 100%
Condition: Not sure about this; -1 Attack
Moves: Sunny Day ~ Rock Polish

bobandbill

[Pants] Shinx (M)

HP: 100%
Energy: 100%
Condition: Ready to get started
Moves: Mud-Slap ~ Thunder Fang

[Raltsey] Ralts (F)
HP: 100%
Energy: 100%
Condition: Focused on victory
Moves: Thunder Wave ~ Psychic

Artillery would have to move fast if he was going to protect himself and his teammate from whatever horrors the psychic and his dog were about to unleash. He leapt between Sparkle and the enemy and focused on creating some sort of shield. A shimmering blue wall faded into being between the two groups of pokémon. Screwing up his face in concentration, the Magby then manipulated the energy into a dome which encircled both himself and the shiny flower behind him. His breaths started to come in short bursts after a few seconds; it was difficult to keep the shield active and cost more energy to make it big enough to protect the two of them. He just hoped that he could keep it up long enough to avoid whatever the enemy threw at him.

Luckily the shield had gone up just in time; using a mixture of dirt and spit, Pants had managed to make a thick, gooey mud for his attack. He tossed the concoction at Artillery but it was blocked by the curved wall of energy between them. The attack’s target watched as the mud was dissolved by the energy – what had been thrown at him wouldn’t hurt much but it could have badly hurt his eyes and make it difficult for him to see properly. He was incredibly glad for the shield right now.

Meanwhile, Raltsey had also been preparing a crippling attack to use. A small electric charge was built up in the red horns on his head until the emotion-reader had decided that it was strong enough. She then let loose the attack, sending it speeding through the air towards Sparkle. However, it collided with Artillery’s barrier before it could reach its target and shattered into a bunch of blue and yellow sparks. Kind of pretty – but this was a battle, not a contest.

While Artillery allowed the shield to drop, wearing an expression of pure relief, the flower he had been protecting started setting up the arena for his next attack. The clouds that currently filled the sky were doing a brilliant job of blocking out the sun. Sparkle liked the sun though, and she knew that it could make her partner a lot stronger – perhaps strong enough to bring down their opponents. She began to wish that the sun would come out and bathe the stadium in light. A ball of orange energy began to form in the centre of the flower and then raise itself skywards. The orb reached the clouds and there was something like an explosion before they started to disappear, allowing the sun to shine down on the battle. The ancient fossil basked in the light – her job was done for now.

Her partner felt the sun on his back and knew that it was time to go on the offensive. The baby Magmar ran at Raltsey, or “the poorly named Ralts,” with a mouth full of fire. His clawed feet kicked up dirt behind him as he went, leaving a trail of earth behind him. While he was still a few feet away from his target, the flames in his mouth spilled out to cover his body in fire; he growled as the heat made him uncomfortable but carried on with the attack – it was too late to turn back now. Raltsey tried to get out of the way but was too slow to escape; the fiery baby charged straight into her, knocking her to the ground. The world span around her and her body ached from the fall – she didn’t want to take a hit like that again soon.

But Pants couldn’t be happier; Artillery had come in close to attack and now the pup could spring his counter-attack. Electricity crackled in his mouth as he moved in on his target. He could afford to move slowly since the Magby he was attacking seemed to be more focused on recovering from his own attack than looking for nearby threats. Pants pounced and pinned the fire-type down under his paws. He bit down on his left arm with his electrified teeth, unleashing the stored energy. The pokémon spasmed as the shock coursed through his body, attacking muscles and nerves; it didn’t do any lasting damage but Artillery wouldn’t be doing very much for a little while. Then the Shinx withdrew, seeing that his ally was up and ready to fight – she would want revenge, and Pants didn’t want to stand in the way of her getting it.

A blue glow emanated from Raltsey’s horns as she watched Artillery quiver in fear. An aura of the same colour was developing around the fire-type, showing that he was being attacked by a strong barrage of psychic energy. He cried out as a particularly strong hit broke into his mind and took control of his body. The Magby was raised into the air and, after a gesture from his controller, sent flying into the empty stands. After going headfirst into one of the front-row seats, he was brought back into the arena and tossed to the ground like a ragdoll, rolling to a stop in front of Sparkle. Raltsey allowed a smile to grow on her bone-white face – she was sure that Artillery had been hurt quite badly and was glad to have got her own back. She hoped that she would be able to continue pummelling him in the near future.

Sparkle looked down at her injured teammate. She felt bad that he had been the one doing all of the fighting so far and resolved that she would be more helpful to him soon. But to be more helpful she would need to be much quicker than she was now, if only so that she could keep up with her teammate; so she decided to streamline herself, using her tentacles to polish away any dirt and create a smooth surface for air to flow over when she did eventually move. After about a minute of rubbing up and down, her skin was as smooth as a baby’s bottom – now she would be able to move faster than her opponents and help Artillery in battle.

Okay, Artillery, you're out of commission first attack, so just hang back and try to chill. Sparkle, take advantage of the sunlight and introduce Raltsey to your Solarbeam. After that, Artillery, I want you to charge Pants with another Flare Blitz. Sparkle, if you've still got the sun, hit Pants with a second Solarbeam. If not, then use Sunny Day again.

Hmm...

Raltsey - take the Solarbeam, and retaliate with Pain Split on the Lileep. Follow up with Psychic on the Magby.

Pain Split (Lileep) ~ Psychic (Magby)

Pants - take advantage of the sun and use Fire Fang on Lileep. Next, either Protect if you didn't flinch the Lileep with Fire Fang, and if you did then go for another Thunder Fang on the Magby.

Fire Fang (Lileep) ~ Protect/Thunder Fang (Magby)

With Magby out of it for the beginning of the round, Sparkle knew that she’d have to cope with both of the opponents on her own. Fortunately, she had a plan with which she could deal a reasonable amount of damage to both of them. She felt the sun’s heat and light on her back and began to store up the energy she was getting from it in her flower. A ball of glowing, white energy began to form, shining like a beacon. Once there was enough energy for the attack to work, the ancient flower focused it into a beam, which she then fired at Raltsey. The psychic-type squealed as she soared backwards through the air and hit the stadium’s wall. She sagged to the ground, but her anger was still very much intact.

However, she would have to bottle it up for the time being since her ally was quicker than her and so would move first. Pants ran towards Sparkle with a mouth full of fire. The flames were difficult to control since he wasn’t used to using them but he managed to keep a tight rein on them. He tore towards the stationary plant with all the speed he could muster, then ran straight past her. He stopped running, skidding along the dirt instead, and looked back. Sparkle hadn’t moved an inch. The flames faded away and Pants realised that it was too late to have another go. He kicked the dirt angrily and growled before settling down to watch his partner make her move.

Raltsey was feeling pretty sore by now. She raised her head slowly to avoid worsening the headache she had. Despite the pain, she wanted to go on; she had to get her own back on her opponents. Fortunately, she already knew a way to do so. She began to focus on her pain, drawing as much of it as she could into a glowing ball of white. A strand of the white shot out and attached itself to Sparkle’s stem. The shiny fossil felt it but didn’t react, knowing that it would be useless. Raltsey’s pain shot through her like bullets and rendered her temporarily immobilised – not that she moved much anyway. Raltsey grinned; she felt a little better now.

Since his partner seemed to be doing better than he was, Pants decided that he should focus on defence for a while to give himself some time to recover from his failure in the last action. A blue dome flickered into existence around him. He smiled weakly, knowing that he was safe behind his shield.

Artillery was still confident though. He thought that the shield couldn’t truly be impenetrable and that, with the right amount of power, he’d be able to break through it. Fortunately, his attack was a powerful one; he was sure that his plan would work. He charged at the smirking Shinx. Flames began to cover his body, giving him a flickering, orange aura. The burning baby ran towards the shield with a bellow pouring from his mouth. Pants reinforced the shield with as much energy as he could before the opponent struck struck. Artillery collided with the curved wall, grinding into it but not getting anywhere.

While Pants was focused on defending against her teammate, Sparkle decided that she would take advantage and try to attack from behind. She began absorbing energy from the sun like she had done before. A sphere of glowing energy appeared inside the Lileep’s flower, illuminating her shaded face. As soon as a sufficient amount of energy had been collected, the ancient pokémon reformed the orb as a beam, which she used to attack Pant’s exposed side. The Shinx somehow sensed the oncoming danger and managed to reinforce the part of the dome protecting him from the second attack as well. The three pokémon were locked in what seemed to be an unwinnable contest, but then Artillery fell to the ground – his energy was spent for now. Sparkle decided to give up shortly after that, knowing full well that any hope of breaching the shield was now long gone. Pants took a sigh of relief and let the wall drop. He had thought for a moment that they would break through.

The fun wasn’t over yet though. Raltsey reached out with her mind, feeling the minds of those around her. She quickly found Artillery’s and forced her way in. The Magby stiffened and a line of blue spread around the outline of his body. Raltsey took a breath before continuing; she didn’t need to rush herself. Then the Magby began to levitate, wobbling slightly as he rose. If you looked closely enough, you could see the panic in his eyes. When he had gotten to six-feet above the ground, Raltsey flung his as hard and fast as she could into the screen. It broke, sending a cascade of broken glass down on one side of the battlefield. Artillery dropped, hitting the ground just clear of the shards of glass. He groaned as he rolled over in the dirt. His mind had been weakened by the attack, meaning that it would be easier for Raltsey to try something like that again. He clutched his head and then fell back to the ground. He wasn’t looking forward to the next round very much. Nor was I for that matter.

BTW I presume the sun is already gone? Not mentioned in arena notes after all, but just want to be sure.

Ralts - Psychic on Magby, Ice Punch on Lileep. Unless someone uses a weather-making move in which case Encore it if you can, and just Psychic on Magby in the case Lileep is frozen in the 2nd action.

Shinx - Ice Fang on Lileep, Thunder Fang on Magby.

Ralts: Psychic (Magby)/Encore weather move if used by an opponent + not taunted ~ Ice Punch (Lileep)/Encore weather move if used + not taunted/Psychic (Magby, only if Lileep frozen in 2nd action)

Shinx: Ice Fang (Lileep) ~ Thunder Fang (Magby)

Time to go with the old standby of spamming attacks. Artillery, hit Shinx hard with Lava Plume. If the first one burns, use your second one on Ralts instead. Sparkle, you, on the other hand, could do with a power boost, so use Ancientpower on Shinx.

Artillery: Lava Plume@Shinx~Lava Plume@Shinx/Ralts

Artillery’s wiry frame and large feet let him move first, which he accepted graciously. His mouth began to burn as huge pillars of smoke covered the area. He pounded the ground as a huge crack appeared, summoning the molten fire below the crust of the earth. None of the other Pokemon could see what was happening; the large amount of black haze blocked their sight. Suddenly a huge burst of red liquid rocketed out of the crack, raining down upon Artillery’s enemies. Smog and flames covered the stadium as the Shinx was barraged by ash and fire. He got up, barely able to stand; that had really hurt! Although the clouds were quickly cleared by the heavy wind, a heavy burn mark still scorched the side of Pants’ flesh, and he did not look too happy at all.
(-16% Health, -13% Energy, Pants is burned.)
Luckily for Lord Fedora, Sparkle’s Rock Polish was just enough to let her outspeed the other two. Her fossil origins shined as she prepared her move, which was seriously going to hurt. She closed her eyes as a brilliant orb of white energy formed in front of her, radiating the power of many ancient spirits. It grew and grew, rotating in its place as she smiled. With a quick bend of her neck, she headbutted the ball straight towards Pants. Still grumbling about his last attack, Pants yelped as he was grinded against the floor by the attack. He got up, quivering in his place as he did so. He had already taken serious damage from Lava Plume, but now this? Pants simply shook his head, hoping the rest of the battle would go better for him.
(-13% Health, -6% Energy)
Shaking off his bad luck, Pants tried a counterattack of his own. Opening his mouth, he began to focus on the icy cold where he had trained, imagining thick tendrils of snow wrapping around his sharp fangs. His imagination pulled through; a thick shield of blue light surrounded his teeth as he ran towards the rock type. With a huge leap, he pointed his head towards Sparkle. However, her superior speed proved to be exactly what she needed; seeing the threat, she was able to swerve in a split second, leaving Pants to plummet to the ground. He collapsed on the floor, obviously not happy about how his day was going. Hopefully Raltsey would be able to help him out this time…
(-15% Energy, Ice Fang missed.)
Raltsey was ready to fight back, and win this battle for her trainer. She prepared her move; a nice one for her, which perfectly balanced her typing. Her eyes glowed a pleasant blue as her telekinetic powers shone, focusing her power. Artillery barely had time to blink before he was obliterated by two psychic beams of light blue energy, which pushed him back with sheer power. They moved him in all directions, slamming his face against the floor as his feet were twisted in a knot. Raltsey laughed, then let him down; but only for a second, so that she could create even more pain. When she finally let up, Artillery didn’t look so good; it looked as if he had gotten in a fight with a Tauros wearing red.
(-14% Health, -13% Energy)
Artillery was not happy with what had just happened. Luckily enough, his trainer felt the same way. His feet weighed heavily on the ground as he rocked the earth, creating another crater in the middle of the stadium. The toxic smoke emitted made everyone except Magby shield their eyes as he used his control over fire to direct the lava up. Raltsey had tried to sneak a peek when huge puddles of lava surrounded her, burning the barren earth. She screeched as the burning hot liquid touched her flesh, causing serious pain as Artillery laughed maniacally, happy to get revenge. Life was sweet.
(-24% Health, -13% Energy)
Sparkle was ready to get revenge as well. She knew that if she had not avoided the attack, it would have seriously pained her. The orb of energy reappeared in front of her body as she clenched her long neck, obviously using a lot of energy to do so. The slightly darker center of the attack indicated that there was something there that hadn’t been before; the ref could tell that this was going to cause a lot of more pain than the other one. Sparkle waited just another second to let it fully charge, then let it fly towards Pants. He could not move, paralyzed by fear as the rock-type attack penetrated his body. He flew back, scraping his knees as he hit the hard-packed dirt. Sparkle simply stood in place, but anyone could tell there was something about her that seemed really happy. It had been a Critical Hit, after all.
(-25% Health, -6% Energy)
Pants was ready to dominate. After the pain that had been given to him by Sparkle, he wanted to personally kill each and everyone one of them. At this point, Pants was totally in his element. Sparks from his fur coat traveled to his fangs as they became shrouded in electrical energy, seriously powering them up. Trotting over to Artillery, he thought nasty thoughts as he sank his teeth into the strange fire type’s flesh, bringing a sharp scream of pain to everyone’s ears. Artillery flailed wildly, eventually getting the electric type off of his head. Shaking his fists, he knew that he wanted to get rid of that thing. And fast.
(-11% Health, -8% Energy)
Raltsey was ready to wrap this up. Her tiny fist was enveloped in tiny ice crystals, freezing it solid. Although it was much heavier and made her limp just a bit, it would seriously hurt whoever it touched. She walked over to the two foes, who were on the floor laughing at the sight of her arm. Sparkle got up, just to see a huge fist of ice moving straight for her head. Before she could even try to dodge, the rock type pokemon hit the wall. She stumbled around, but after a quick shake of the head looked okay. This was going to be an interesting battle.
(-7% Health, -19% Energy)

ROUND END

Alpha: Both target Ralts, Artillery with Ember and Sparkle with Ancientpower.
Beta: Artillery, Chill. Sparkle, use Ingrain.
Gamma: Sparkle, use Ancientpower on Ralts. Artillery, go ahead and Rest.
Delta: Artillery use Lava Plume on Shinx. Sparkle, Ancientpower on Ralts.

Alright, here's some fun. Start off with Alpha, unless Ralts Protects in which case go for Beta instead. If you did use Alpha, follow that with Gamma, unless Ralts chooses to Protect then, otherwise default to Beta. If you used Beta first, go for Delta.

Artillery: Ember@Ralts/Chill~Rest/Chill/Lava Plume@Shinx
Sparkle: Ancientpower@Ralts/Ingrain~Ancientpower@Ralts/Ingrain

The hax has swung! =o Hmm... hope no more crits happen I suppose! Against myself anyway. ;p

Pants: Discharge on Magby twice, unless it has fainted by the time it's your turn in which case go for Lileep instead. Wait for Ralts to move first on the 2nd action.

Ralts - gotta weather those attacks I'm afraid if you want to do in that Magby with your partner. Hit Magby with Psychic (unless it's somehow fainted - then just Pain Split on Lileep). Do the same again if it's somehow not fainted; if it is though then I can only assume a 2nd AncientPower would knock you out (13 + 13 + at least 5 from Ember I assume in usual circumstances...) if so, use Destiny Bond if you have the energy for it/you will be knocked out! If you however won't be fainted by the 2nd AncientPower then Pain Split on Lileep. And if you used Pain Split first action, Mud Slap instead.

Pants: Discharge (Magby) ~ Discharge (Magby if it's still standing, else Lileep, and let Ralts move first)

Ralts: Psychic (Magby)/Pain Split (Lileep) ~ Destiny Bond (Lileep)/Pain Split (Lileep)/Mud slap (Lileep)

Artillery began to prepare his next attack. His short, quick gasps of breath became hotter as fire welled up within him and he prepared to unleash it. A stream of flame poured from his mouth, reaching across the arena towards Raltsey, who screeched and fell over backwards trying as she desperately tried to avoid it. Her desperation didn’t pay off, however, and the fire enveloped her, making her cry out in agony as the flames burnt her tender skin. Eventually, the attack died out, but the crying Ralts stayed prostrate on the floor.

And maybe that was just as well. Her other opponent, Sparkle, was also preparing an attack. Another ball of glowing energy was spinning in front of her, making the shadows in the stadium dance. She batted the ball towards the kneeling psychic-type, who didn’t have time to register its approach. The ball blasted her sideways into the wall of the stadium, creating a long crack. The humanoid body fell to the floor and tried to crawl back towards her teammate – surely he would help her.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t going to work like that. Electricity crackled around Pants as he released a wave of energy, which spread across the whole battlefield. Artillery was thrown off his feet and onto his back, where he stayed for a while, in too much pain to move. Sparkle swayed as the electricity surged through her body; it didn’t hurt her very badly but it was still a bit of a sting. On the other hand, this attack was the final straw for Raltsey, who fell on her side and fell into unconsciousness. The damage she had sustained was finally too much and she was finished. Her trainer recalled her quickly before she got caught up in the next bout of violence.

But this didn’t come as quickly as he had expected. This was because Artillery had gotten too injured by the battle to be able to go on and was now trying to get to sleep on the scorched and torn up ground. He lay down, closed his eyes and began to let his tiredness overcome him. He was snoring before ten seconds were over. His ally nodded and began to prepare her next attack – determined not to let her teammate to be damaged while sleeping.

Calling upon her prehistoric powers once again, she created another ball of energy, which span on a diagonal axis. However, there was now a problem. The target she was meant to be aiming at was no longer on the field. Thinking quickly, she decided that she would have to switch targets and aimed for Pants instead. She knocked the sphere towards him and it drove the Shinx back by several feet. But he wasn’t ready to give up just yet.

He dashed forwards, spurred on by the loss of his teammate, and filled the gap between Sparkle and the sleeping Artillery. Once he was there, he unleashed a second surge of electricity. It coursed through the pokémon on either side of him. Sparkle shrieked as the attack passed through her, but this was not because of her own pain; she shrieked because she had sworn to herself that she would protect her partner from harm. Fortunately, it seemed that the Magby wasn’t too bothered by the attack. In fact, the healing process seemed to have already started and his wounds were recovering fairly well. On the other hand, Pants’ burn was causing him quite a bit of trouble; he growled angrily as needles of pain stabbed the affected area. He was not happy.
