Post School Pokemon Ban overturned by 9-Year-Old

The Power of One is proven once again. Lucas Ayala, a 9-year-old in third grade, managed to overturn his school's ban on Pokemon cards. He wrote a letter to the school teachers and administrators to allow the cards in school. "I thought I cou

xD That's hilarious! I love how it started as a joke but it was taken seriously. xD And wow. I'm learning to do persuasive letters at MY age, not eight years ago. xD But I think it's ridiculous people should ban pokemon at schools anyway. Glad this one's been lifted.

That kid is pure gold. To allow Pokemon in School, and best, to be promoted over Math Classes, is like a dream come true!

Good for him. This also goes to show that school administrations need to stop assuming the worse things of Pokemon or any other similar cartoon franchise (alot of the time they ban it just because they've read those ridiculous articles on how Pokemon is against religion and crap like that), and instead look towards the positive aspects.

This kid's singing to the tune of the teachers. Somebody's going far in life with that attitude. XD

In all seriousness, the best way for a child to learn IS to play. If my kid can learn addition, subtraction, and multiplication with ease using pokemon cards, I'd let him/her play in spare time too. It's like the idea of reading: it doesn't really matter what you read. At the end of the day, you're still reading (even if it is Nintendo Power). The argument that there are better literatures in existence is a correct statement, but if you can't get a kid to read it, well it wouldn't work anyway.

It's great to see kids being proactive and adults making the effort to listen. Equally, trying to take a new spin on teaching math is worth noting, since so many struggle in this subject. Who knows, for some, a fun apporch can be what it takes for the concepts to click!

Either way, job well done!

Exactly! You cater to what the kids interest is as long as it's getting them to learn to read write and do MATH! I just find the conventional way of learning a bit of a bore, unless you've got a great teacher or professor who MAKES it exciting for you!

Power to the children.

This made my day, and is the reason I stopped growing up at the age of 12.

Pokemon Cards are educational and Fun :) I don't Use my Cards in Tournaments or play other people (Exept my brother a couple of times a long time ago). I collect them! So, I'm not using them "Educationally" XD But I'm glad he over turned it :D

Holy guacamole.

That nine-year-old is smart, I tell you, and powerful. He is worthy of being a fifth grader's opponent in Are you smarter than a Fifth grader.

I find what he did very noble, and bold (considering it was originally a joke to the administration- that takes guts). The fact that he was successfully able to turn the tables around is mind blowing for a kid his age, and I really believe he wasn't bs-ing any of it either, it's very true.

I simply can't understand why schools often ban the game (as my school did when it became very popular), I never played the card game either, but I collected them because I loved the pictures on the cards, (many of which inspired me to become an artist). I suppose when kids are hooked on something besides what they teach you, parents/schools get nervous because they have no idea what it is, I'm glad this kid was able to stand up to something he loved doing.

hehe That kid should do public speaking for schools about the benefits of TCG

They got banned at my primary school. I wouldn't do a trade back with somebody, so they cried and bit me.

That was twelve years ago.

I feel old.
