Default OPEN: Elbub vs Gmandiddy -- gmandiddy wins.

Quote:

Single Battle, 1 Pokemon each.
DQ: 3 days
Damage Caps: 50
Restrictions: No direct recovery moves, no OHKOs, no chills
Arena: A Grassy Plain
Your standard grassy plain. Well, not really standard, considering all it is short scruffy grass in every direction as far as the eye can see. I can't say that's particularly standard, but it makes for a great battle scenario.
Ref Style: Open (as seems to be the prevailing theme. No idea why I didn't implement something like this...)

I will be sending

Rotom
Ability: Levitate

[Terror] Gengar (F)
Ability: Levitate
Signature Move: None

It wasn't that unexpected, was it?

It may be fast, but we're faster. Start out with a 15% Substitute . Then move on to a Shadow Ball to get the damage rolling.

Testing the waters much...

Another Ghost Type, start the ball rolling by using Shadow Ball to break the sub and then use Sucker Punch

Shadow Ball ~ Sucker Punch

Grass stretched out as far as the eye could see and further. Two trainers stood in the middle of the vast field, each holding a single red and white ball in their hand. I stood between them until they were ready for the match to begin, then I stepped back a couple of times and motioned that they should begin. Each threw down their poké balls causing two bright lights to erupt in the field; the lights faded and the two pokémon could be seen. Gmandiddy, who stood on my left, had chosen his Rotom – the deep blue eyes stared out from its red body of plasma while the electrical aura flickered and pulsed. It watched the other side of the battlefield, nervously awaiting its opponent. From Elbub’s poké ball had come another ghost, though this one looked slightly more menacing than the first. Glowing red eyes stared confidently at the anxious Rotom – the Gengar seemed to be almost overconfident, dismissing her opponent on sight. The purple phantom began to hover over the grass, which seemed to have taken on a less healthy colour since she arrived. I looked at the two battlers with some interest; two ghost-types would certainly make an interesting match.

Round One

gmandiddy

Rotom (X)

HP: 100%
Energy: 100%
Condition: A little intimidated
Moves: Shadow Ball ~ Sucker Punch

Elbub

[Terror] Gengar (F)

HP: 100%
Energy: 100%
Condition: Grinning menacingly
Moves: Substitute ~ Shadow Ball

Terror felt her new power surge through her; her recent evolutions had had an incredible effect. However, she wasn’t sure that she was ready to go head to head with her electric-type opponent – she would need some sort of protection first. Floating close to the ground, the phantom tore handfuls of earth and grass out of the ground. Now that she had built up a small stockpile of resources she could start to build a guardian, which could protect her from just about everything thrown at her. Slowly but steadily, and to Rotom’s utter horror, the purple spectre began to mould a likeness of herself; the clone began to take form and its creator knew that she would soon have to bring the sculpture to life. She placed one hand on the model’s forehead and allowed her very life to flow into it. While Terror screamed in pain, the substitute got to its feet and faced up to the opponent; the ghost withdrew her hand and looked upon her guardian with satisfaction – surely her foe would have trouble getting past that.

Rotom stared at her opponent’s new protector with a scared look in its eyes; however, it knew that it could still swing things around. Dark energies swirled around the poltergeist as it prepared to strike down its rival. The necromantic power gravitated to one point, where it formed an orb of shadow. A few seconds passed while Rotom took careful aim before the ball blasted towards Terror’s scapegoat; the attack struck its target in the chest – it was so strong that the Gengar’s guardian fell to pieces and became a useless pile of rubble on the ground. Terror watched this with extreme disappointment, she had been hoping for a little more protection than that.

Now that its opponent had lost her protection, Rotom was determined to press home its advantage. The ends of its lightning bolt arms turned black as it flew at the Gengar, who was busy preparing her next attack; it was always a good idea to hit the opponent before being hit. The crackling arms of lightning smashed Terror in the chest, causing her to stumble back a couple of steps; she was surprised at how much that had hurt. Wincing slightly, she began to prepare her attack, desperate to show her trainer that his investment hadn’t been wasted.

The menacing Gengar closed his eyes and focused hard, causing dark energies to crackle as they were drawn into a ball between her claw-like hands. At the centre of the deathly orb was a nucleus of pitch-black energy; around this was an “iris” of purple including a lighter ring beyond which was a black outer circle with swirls of purple energy emitted from the iris. Then the red eyes snapped open and scanned the area for the target. She saw Rotom and blasted the sphere of death at it with incredible accuracy and power. The plasma pokémon was briefly enveloped in the attack but was soon knocked backwards, spinning randomly through the air until it crashed into the ground; the attack had stung the ghost badly, there was no way he could take much more like that. Rotom and gmandiddy would have to work quickly if they wanted to win.

Ok Rotom, Use Thunder Wave, however if he tries to use Curse, use Sucker Punch again. If he tries to boost his stats, use Snatch. If you use ThunderWave, then use Hex, if you used Sucker Punch, use Shadow Ball, if you used Snatch use Shadow Ball.

Thunder Wave / Sucker Punch / Snatch ~ Hex / Shadow Ball / Shadow Ball

So, Gengar, feel free to use Curse and Pain Split without any ramifications, due to the many impossibilities our opponent has ordered. This Rotom is going to be more bemused than if we used Confuse Ray.

Curse ~ Pain Split

Terror took the time to give Rotom another creepy smile before starting to bring down the orange poltergeist. She closed her bloodshot eyes in order to allow her to focus on what she was doing and not get distracted by the outside world. Slowly, steadily, she began to chant an ancient war song – a song that made the most vicious war lord flee and the bravest general tremble in fear. As the chanting went on, a black aura enveloped the Gengar and the air around her seemed to chill to the point where both trainers were shivering. However, Rotom seemed more concerned about a similar black aura which was growing around it; it stared at the mumbling phantom with a look of sheer terror. Then Terror screamed. It wasn’t just any kind of scream – it was the kind of bloodcurdling scream you can only ever get when someone or something is in so much pain that they didn’t want to go on anymore. The scream stopped. Rotom’s face was a picture of terror; it had no idea what was going on but it didn’t like it at all – this didn’t look good. However, Terror didn’t look to good; the curse had taken away a lot of her life force so she was incredibly vulnerable to whatever her rival threw at her.

It did nothing. It had been told to wait and see what its opponent did before attacking, and if she used Curse, which she had, then it had to use Sucker Punch again. Unfortunately, it was too late to use Sucker Punch now and even if it wasn’t then it wouldn’t work. With little else to do, Rotom continued to whimper and watch Terror fearfully.

The Gengar returned her opponents stare with a menacing glare, designed to frighten it even more. But the shadow pokémon was sore – the last attack had taken a lot out of her after all. Thankfully, her trainer knew a way to bring her back to a reasonable level of health while also bringing her opponent down by a peg or two. One claw-like hand reached out towards Rotom as small bursts of black energy detached themselves from the plasmatic body. Terror absorbed these pulses, feeling herself become more reinvigorated with each of them. Meanwhile, her adversary saw its life being sapped away before its very eyes; as you can imagine, it wasn’t best pleased – now was the time for it to act.

Shadows quickly drew into a compact ball and rocketed towards the Gengar who had been responsible for so much pain; it hit in the chest, forcing her to plummet towards the grassy ground until she could correct herself. Rotom continued to watch the phantom as she pushed off the ground and hovered in front of it once again. Maybe he had been wrong about fearing her – this round hadn’t been too bad in the end. Without any sort of warning, intense pain flared up inside of it; it screamed loudly, making its trainer block his ears. Terror watched this and smiled – the curse had worked, all she had to do now was survive the next round. Simple.

Gengar, use Shadow Ball. Even with a Sucker Punch (providing it's not critical), we should win. Just. And if we're in the second action and the battle isn't over for whatever reason, just use Protect.

Shadow Ball ~ Protect

Round Three

Moves: Sucker Punch ~ Charge

Elbub

[Terror] Gengar (F)

HP: 20%

Moves: Shadow Ball ~ Protect

The end was definitely in sight now; both battlers were near their limits. Both of Rotom’s jagged “fists” turned black as it prepared what would probably end up as his last move. There was no way it would survive another hit from Terror; she was too strong for it to stand a chance. It all came down to this, and it would take a miracle for the frightened little poltergeist to win. After a couple of deep breaths, it darted at the phantom, who was already preparing her own attack. Dark energy swirled around her hands as she stood, waiting for her target to get close.

Time was running out – Rotom had to be quick. He darted behind his opponent and jabbed at her eyes as she turned; the sound of the laws of probability being shattered, burned and then jumped on filled the arena when the attack connected, making the Gengar stumble back. Terror looked at her assailant with shock; she hadn’t expected to have been hit so hard. It hit her again in the chest, bringing her to her knees as the pain began to overwhelm her. She couldn’t give in now. She was the Terror of the night; no prey could escape her, no victim could defeat her. Why was she in so much pain?

Rotom watched her, waiting for her to attack. It had retreated to a moderately safe distance after attacking but now curiosity was overruling its fear. As it hovered closer to the struggling Gengar, she looked up at it with hate-filled eyes. She tried to reach it, to bring her enemy down with her, but the ghost moved backwards as soon as it saw her claw move. Terror was finished; she gave one last, mind-splitting scream and then let her body go limp. Rotom hovered over her unconscious body; he had been beaten down to the end of his rope and obviously desperation had brought him through to the end. He still felt sore though.

gmandiddy

Rotom (X)
