SPRITE/PIXEL ART RULES by Anastasia-R & Gem N Ems with editing by Graceful_Suicune
Hey, it’s time to revamp the Sprite/Pixel Art rules for you, guys. So, let’s start off with basic rules.
Do not post --- Graphic art or Photography / Contest threads / Fan or Original art

NO THREAD HAS TO BE APPROVED ANY LONGER. So feel free to make sprite shops, galleries, comics, projects--no approval required.
PLACES TO POST
General Spriter’s Showcase
Sprite Request Thread
Academy of Sprite/Pixel art
ART GALLERIES
To have an art gallery, you need examples of your work (3 or more examples of your work). Not only that, but if you post a gallery, expect comments and constructive criticism. If you ask only for comments, please mention that. If you have less than 3 examples of sprite work, post at the General Spriter’s Showcase thread.

REGION THREADS
Region threads are not something in need of approval, but I want to point out some requirements that are needed. I’m annoyed with seeing region threads with just “Oh, here’s my region. I need some help. And here’s a long list of the Pokedex”.
  • Name of the region
  • Description of your Region or a story
  • A Pokedex with at least 5-10 examples of the pokemon in the region. Pokemon that was already created does NOT count. So, if Pikachu was part of your pokedex, it will not count as an example.
  • A Map of the region. If the map is in development, you can post it.

PROJECTS
If you're planning on making a project, have some point to it. If you want to post a "Recolor project", you'll have many different examples. Provide requirements to the members.
Another note; hack projects are NOT ALLOWED. Do not make a "hack project" thread requesting for spriters. WE DON'T ALLOW HACK PROJECT THREADS!

COMICS
Keep in mind that comics need to have a reasonable plot to keep it going, and you're advised to use sprites such as the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon sprites or the Heart Gold and Soul Silver overworld sprites for overworld comics, and for effects such as blurring, try a free program such as GIMP. Paint is also effective to use, and another suggestion would be to already have at lease a single page of your comic done before you post the thread. That way you can get people interested; posting a thread without a single page is kind of pointless. xD Wait until you have at least one made, but having more is preferable.
Remember to keep language appropriate and rate your comic's maturity level accordingly. If there is inappropriate content, your comic will be subject to termination.

Art Theft

The stealing of art is a serious matter here at PE2K. Not only is it pathetic that someone has to take someone else's hard work just to have others think that they are "good" at art, but it is also reason enough to ban a member. Art theft will by no means be permitted here. If you are caught you will be:

First Offense: You will be temporarily banned from the forum
Second Offense: You will be temporarily banned from the forum for a longer period of time
Third Offense: You will be permanently banned from the forum

You have only 3 chances, if you blow them all then you're out.

Art thieves better think twice before even thinking about calling someone else's art their own.

What does Art Theft involve?

Art theft not only involves the direct stealing of someone's art, it also involves using their art in your artwork without their permission. Say if you wanted to use someone's fan art in your banner, but didn't have their permission. That is considered stealing their art. It is perfectly all right to use someone else's art as long as you give credit and have their permission.

Another form of art theft is taking someone else's art and editing it. For example, taking a sprite that someone created and then recoloring it, then calling it your own is against the rules. Of course, taking the general Pokemon Game Sprites is perfectly ok, but editing anything created by members, including fusions, is against the rules. This not only includes sprites, but banners, fan art, etc...

Sprite Guides and Tutorials II

So, a fellow pe2k member, Disco, suggested we needed a more updated resource thread. Alrighty, lets have a little fun here. ^..^

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR;

Resources
- We, as sprite/pixel artists need places to be linked to read tutorials, or link to a site with tons of sprites! So, if you have ANY sites in mind, please link so. Linking to galleries is kinda a no-no, since we can't STEAL other people's work. That's just not right. =[
Tutorials
- OH YES. TUTORIALS. Why tuts? We need them because there could be new sprite artists in need of help to making better sprites.
How do you make a tutorial? Here's a great tutorial, on making tutorials!
When you link a tutorial or make a tutorial, you need to state the following;
  • Your username (well, duh, we need to know it's by you)
  • What is the tutorial teaching us? ; (Ex; Recolors? Overworlds? Maps?)
  • Do you have any results to following the tutorial?; [sprites here, post 2]
Of course, the tutorial you link MUST be made by you. Make sure you stated all the steps out on the tutorial, and try to make is so that anyone can follow it. ^..^

Video Recording Tutorials
- Oooohhh, these are interesting. Alrighty, do you want to make tutorials by screen recording yourself? I'll totally allow it, but here's some stuff you need to do/fill out/know/ect
  • Video recording must be by you.
  • Make it so the viewers can see what your doing in what program so that they can sprite just like how you're doing.
  • If you'll be using a mic to talk in the video, I encourage you to speak clearly and so that the audience can understand and hear you.
  • Tells us the program you used, ect and what your tutorial is focused on.
Does the tutorials HAVE to be on making ONLY Pokemon pixel art?
- No! This is a mixed sprite art board, so, if it's non-related to Pokemon, sure, post it. =]
Rules
  • Don't Spam, Flame, ect.
  • All pe2k rules apply.
  • Keep the language at PG, please.
  • PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE WATCH OUT FOR POSTED TUTORIALS. We don't want 7 tutorials on how to recolors. O..o;; Be original, go crazy, have fun, but try to make sure you're not reposting a style that has over 3 tuts.
  • We want sprite styles to have maybe LESS than 4 tutorials. Keep it to 2-3.
  • Don't steal.
  • Keep your resources and tutorials rated for a audience of kids, please.
  • Make sure you read the tutorial over, to avoid; Spelling errors, missing steps, ect.
  • We need to understand what you're talking about in the tutorial/video tutorial. Otherwise, I'm not adding it to our lists of tuorials.
  • THIS IS NOT A SHOWCASE. Please, to share your results, post at The General Spriter's Showcase
  • If you have questions on tutorials or resources, you may post them. Any questions relating to Sprite/Pixel art in general, please post at The Spriting Discussion and Question thread.
  • Do not request here, request for sprites at the Sprite Request thread.
  • Have fun~
Rules will be updated when needed to. =D
Posting Resources
  • Site name:
  • Link:
  • Good use for?: (ex; Sprites, tutorials, ect)

Posting Tutorials
  • What's this tutorial all about?:
  • What Program is this for: (Ex; Most likely MS paint, but you can use other programs for sprites as well.)
  • Difficulty level?; (ex; Beginners, Amateurs, Experts)
  • Video Recording?: (If it's made by pages, then you can say no to this)
  • How many pages to this tutorial?:
  • Have any tips? ;

Great, now the next post will focus more on lists. ^..^; I hope you enjoy this project and learn a lot from it!

- Anastasia-R

Resources (So far)

Anastasia's Suggestions;
  • Black/White Sprites - Pigman was kind enough to link us to Pokemon B/W sprite sheets. Make use of them!
  • The Spriter's Resource - It has many sprites for many Pokemon and non-Pokemon games! It also has a few tutorials.
  • RetroGameZone - Like The Spriter's Resource, it also has sprite. Not as much, but TSR, but it has some good sprite for less known games. It's one of TRS's affiliates.
  • Pokemon Sprite Generator - Need ideas for a new fusion? You should try out this cool generator then for some new ideas.
  • Pokemon Elite 2000 Sprites Page - Oh, yes, the pe2k sprite resource. You should also check that page for some sprites!
  • Sprite Database - Also another good places to find some sprites. It's one of TRS's affiliates.
  • MFGG - This resource is made more for sprites relating to Mario games. This is a non-Pokemon sprite resource. It's one of TRS's affiliates.
  • Trainer Overworld Sprite Base - Provided by Disco, these will serve as a base sprite for a trainer.
Azumao's Sprite Resource Post - Read post to see what Azumao had in this post to share with us sprite artists!
