Hello everyone! It’s time for Graphic spotlight!
For the first week, we have a large amount of entries. I would like to thank all of the graphic artist who submitted something this week and thank them for supporting us.
This week we have chosen Temporal Snake’s submission titled “Dream Eater.”
Temporal Snake says that he was inspired to create this signature when he saw that, “the revamped Gengar sprite looked interesting to work with.”
“I tried to make a scene, a sort of energy ball above Gengar (absorbing the HP, you know), and a bunch of creepy stuff to resemble a dream being eaten. I wanted to keep it simple, to not lose the sprite in the chaos.”
Resources used by Temporal Snake were a Gengar sprite, four C4Ds, one texture, 100-pixel soft brush and Visitor BRK font. (No links were provided)
In this piece I feel that Temporal Snake pulled off using the sprite in this signature very well, although I noticed that the Gengar sprite was a bit dark so, in my opinion, the background could have been darker to suit the sprite better.
One of the main things I enjoy about this piece is the flow Gengar is creating with its hands lifted up and beams shooting up around him. However I feel part of the flow is lost with the background c4d’s going a diagonal direction away from Gengar while the beam-like c4d and the c4d used to make it look like it is absorbing power are shooting outward from Gengar.
The focal, is very nice and obvious seeing how my eyes are easily drawn toward Gengar and the text below it. The differently-sized, purple energy balls fit well with the theme of Gengar as they all seem to shoot toward the Pokemon, although the spheres could have probably been used as a light source for the signature.
Overall I feel this signature is very well done but just needs to be fixed in a few places. Temporal Snake, you are a very talented graphic artist I hope to see more work from you in the future.
