I think the implications of this, just like any other piece of new technology or science, can be both positive or negative. It simply remains to be seen. While the idea is certainly viable in many fields of social sciences, it's hard to say what can be done with the construction of a few cells. The medical implications of it are probably astounding, but outside of molecular and microcellular biology, it would be difficult to place the scope of this exact creation into something larger like solving world resource problems.
