Default Individual RP - Ataro

Location: Outpost #7 (Mt. Oktori)
Time: 8:00 a.m.

"Ataro... Pokemon include an Ambipom, a Staraptor, and a Milotic..." I sat reading the assignment over and over, trying to make heads or tails of what my first assigned job would be like. I'd heard about the many Pokemon inhabiting this harsh mountain top, knowing all too well that a majority could pose a possible threat.

"Nyaa..." I looked over to the window across the room. There stood my trusted companion, Coin. Clutching his sides, he seemed to wince at the thought of trudging through the snow and cold.

"Stop bellyaching. That black trench coat of yours can insulate your body heat. So zip it up and suck it up," I said, annoyed at his constant mews of worry. I didn't even bother trying to coax him through the idea of snow. This Meowth was so stubborn about the idea that he wouldn't change his opinion on it.

"Meow nya, nya meow nya nya," he hissed as he leapt from the ledge and made his way over to me. I could only assume that he was insulting the snow, despite knowing that it couldn't hear him... nor was it even sentient. Upon reaching me, he glanced at the paper I held in my hand. "Nya?" he meowed as he tilted his head.

"What? This? It's just the assignment, Coin." I handed him the paper so he could look at it for himself. All the while I glanced at the clock. Our trainer would be here soon...

"Ah!" I exclaimed with relief.

I had finally reached the outpost of Mt. Oktori after a long walk. My legs were already aching or not to even mention; freezing cold even with the thick boots that I was wearing. Every thing ahead was a thick blanket of white sheet. I had to be really careful not to trip over the pieces of rocks littered all over this trail.

Walking cautiously over to the outpost, I lifted my hand to open the door. I twisted the door knob, letting an awful sound of rusty screech come aloud. Just as I was about to walk in, I suddenly felt a tinge of excitement. I didn’t know what to expect at all. After all, this had only been my second visit, and my first visit was cut short to some issues. This will be interesting.

I stepped into the outpost now, and the first thing that I saw was a Meowth. This Meowth was very much special and was spotting a black coat of some sort. To mark out his uniqueness even more, he was looking out of the window and cursing, probably at the snow, in some languages that I’ve probably never heard before.

“Good morning!” I said, facing the Ranger whom had been assigned to me for this trip. There she was, sitting on the chair beside the wooden table. Alas, my adventure would begin. With that, the grin on my face grew even wider. She must have thought I was an idiot.

OOC: Sorry for the lateness.

IC:

"Excited are we?" I greeted as I got out of the chair. I walked over to the trainer who walked in, assuming him to be the very one assigned to me. "The name's Rocket. As you may have already guessed, I am your Ranger." I signaled Coin over with my hand, knowing that his overall view of this newcomer wouldn't be as welcoming as expected.

"Nya..." he huffed as he reluctantly made his way over to us. Upon reaching my side, he gazed up at Ataro, examining him like a machine. He let no corner of this trainer escape his eye. Once satisfied with what he saw, he looked down and gave a tiny hiss. It wasn't a hiss of anger or rejection, but more so of a 'whatever'.

"Be nice!" I blurted with a stomp of my foot. Coin flinched, looked up, gave an untruthful grin to show his happiness towards the trainer, and then walked off. "Sad to say but, that is my Meowth, Coin. Don't take what he does personally. He's just not very good with new people," I exclaimed with a slight chuckle. "So then, are we ready to head out?"

As my ranger, Rocket, walked over, I saw her signalling with her finger at her Meowth to greet me together. Looking at them two, still smiling, I noticed that the Meowth was staring at me with those huge blank eyes. He looked as if he was scanning me very carefully. For a second, I thought he didn't liked me with all the staring but he suddenly looked down again and let out some sound. Perhaps, it was just me.

"Be nice!" Rocket blurted while stomping her foot. With that, the feline animal quickly looked up and displayed an obvious fake grin while still maintaining that stare of his. I was shocked, and my mouth formed a smile in the most unnatural way, for I didn't act. Though, my Ranger noticed the uncomfortableness and explained that that's just her Meowth's personality. Well, I suppose a grin, although it was a fake one, was still a good start.

"So then, are we ready to head out?" Rocket asked.

"Yeah sure," I replied, opening the door to reveal the vast amount of whiteness. It was snowing lightly, but the snow had already covered up my foot tracks. "Well, I don't know the exact place, I'm afraid. I think it'd be best if you lead!"

"Alright then," I said as I stepped out, nodding in thanks as Ataro held open the door. "C'mon you furball!" I called with a glance back at Coin. He stood still, his arms clasped around his sides as he gazed into the vast whiteness.

"Nya!" he mewed in defiance.

"Stand back a second," I instructed Ataro as I pushed him away from the door. Without looking back, I folded my arms together and held my head high. "Don't tell me your a little Torchic?!" Coin shot his attention at me, his eyes fixated on my position. "So brave, but once temperatures go down, so does his bravery!" I continued to taunt him, boiling up every nerve inside his little body.

"NYA!" He stomped his foot and threw himself into the snow, leaving the warmth of the cabin behind as I slammed the door shut. With a scholding hiss, Coin merely turned away. He then dropped himself into a slump, feeling defeat hit him like a Steelix.

"Lets go!" I said cheerfully. Before we could make another move, a strange figure loomed through the bushes nearest us. Small like a child, this blue colored fighter couldn't help but laugh at Coin. "That Machop sure finds you funny," I said with a smile. I then turned to Ataro, "Seems like we have our first encounter."

Rocket's Meowth stood there, without any motion. Letting out a grunt, he obviously wasn't going to move at all. It was as if this kind of situation happened often, since my Ranger didn't seem worried at all. I was taken aback when she pushed me away from the door, maybe she got angry over her defiant Pokemon afterall.

This time, she stood her ground and folded her arms. "Don't tell me your a little Torchic?!" she exclaimed, while a slight grin emerged from the side of her lips. Coin shot his attention at Rocket immediately, his eyes fixated on the Ranger's position. "So brave, but once temperatures go down, so does his bravery!"

It was obvious by now, or at least to me, that she was taunting her Meowth. Of course, it worked like a charm. The feline Pokemon stomped his foot and threw himself into the snow, while a breeze of cold air sent his coat floating in the air. I wondered, this must have happened almost every time, which explains how Rocket was able to deal with Coin so easily.

"That Machop sure finds you funny," Rocket said with a smile, which snapped me out of my thoughts instead. Looking forward to what she was referring to, I saw the turtle-like bipedal creature that had grey skin, with three brown ridges on top of his head. The large red eyes that he possesses seemed concentrated onto us, while he got to a fighting stance quickly; still laughing at Coin apparently.

"Hmm, I don't think I'd be satisfied with a Machop, since I already had one before," I wondered aloud, and reached for my Pokeball in my pocket. Touching the centre of the Pokeball, which had a white round button, the sphere opened up and emitted a bright flash of light. The blinding flash formed into a silhouette of a giant hawk that was mostly of brown and white shades. She rested her foot onto the snow and stared at her opponent's eyes with her tiny red ones. Suddenly, Machop took a few steps back and started to shiver. I knew that it wasn't the cold that was affecting him, it was Staraptor's downward-facing, red-tipped crest that's on her head, which makes her look larger in order to frighten her enemies.

"Staraptor, I know you'd prefer straight-forward attacks, but I just need you to do one indirect move. Whirlwind the Machop away, so far that it never returns!" I shouted, feeling a little sympathy for the poor Machop.

"Hold on a second!" I said after Ataro called for his attack. Coin jumped forward, stepping between both the Machop and Staraptor. He quickly dropped onto all four and unsheathed his claws. With glowing eyes and fur that slowly lifted, he produced a rounded blue, glass-like barrier in the form of a horse shoe. However, unlike glass, this wall was impenetrable to all who dare attack it.

As the gale like winds struck the barrier, they were dissipated into small breezes that rode along the barriers curve. Once the winds were gone, Coin let out a hiss and broke that which kept him and the Machop on the ground.

"Thank you for the Protect," I praised as Coin lifted back onto his hind legs. Brushing off his coat, he mumbled to himself what could only be his way of saying, 'No problem.' I then turned back to Ataro, a little flustered at his call. "I can understand if you don't want to capture the Machop," I glanced at the small Pokemon who was now backing up, ready to jet away at any given moment, "but that doesn't mean you have to fling him away. He just may have a family around here, or a nest of his own." The Machop then scurried off, brushing through the fauna until he was clean out of sight.

"Nya..." meowed Coin as he pushed onward, forgetting the small fighter.

"Lets move on. And next time, if you don't want a Pokemon, we'll just walk away from it."

Rocket explained to me as to how the Machop might have his friends and family around this area, so it wouldn't be good to Whirlwind the Pokemon away. After my Ranger told me that and I witnessed the Protect that Coin pulled off, I started to get embarressed at my impatience.

"Haha, sorry. Guess I was too impatient," I said, obviously getting a little awkward about the current situation. Pressing the button of my Pokeball again, the beam emitted was red this time, and it created a suction which pulled Staraptor back into the tiny sphere. With that, I was told to move on. Looking ahead, the mountain overshadowed us totally. From where I was standing, I was able to see the many tiny caves at here and there, all along the trail of the mountain. Like what I read on the map earlier, Mt. Oktori really had an extensive set of cave networks.

We finally reached the entrance. There are two routes here, a cave and a trail along the mountain. Not exactly sure of which way would be the best, I asked my Ranger to lead the way again.

NBP

It was a cold day at Mt. Oktori, but then again, every day was cold in here. I had been instructed to escort a trainer through the Mountain a few minutes ago by our Warden; the current ranger, Rocket, had been recalled at HQ for an urgent matter, the details of which were left obscure. I waited for them at the northern entrance, where the route divided itself inside the mountain and around it. I spotted Rocket and Ataro as they climbed up into view sight, Ataro questioning which trail to follow.

"Ah, ranger Rocket. I'm ranger Marth, pleased to meet you. There has been a change of plans from HQ, you are required to return to outpost #7. I was already in the area, so I'll be taking care of your trainer." I explained. As Rocket left down the trail, with Coin following her, I greeted the new trainer with a firm handshake.
"We will take the path inside the mountain, for there are usually small Pokémon training inside".

Indeed, as soon as we entered the cave, a soft "thud" was heard, which grew in intensity as we got deeper. The cause?
"Look at that, he's training his muscles for when he evolves!" I commented, watching how a Tyrogue, with his hands full of bandages and bruises, punched the wall incessantly, each hit removing portions of mud of the ceiling. It turned around to see us, wondering who dared disturb his training.

My new Ranger, Marth, greeted me with a firm handshake. He led me towards the path inside the mountain, while explaining that there are usually small Pokemon training inside.

True enough, the moment we entered the cave, a soft "thud" was heard, which grew in intensity as we got deeper. I was thankful for the wall lamps that were hung alongside the walls of the cave. Though some of them were faulty; flickering non-stop, they still served the purpose of lighting up the dark area, even by a little.

We came to a halt now. In front of us stood the Tyrogue, a fighting type Pokemon that has the ability to evolve into three different types of Pokemon, that specialized in punches, kicks, and making use of spinning attacks. The Tyrogue punched the wall incessantly, each hit removing portions of mud of the ceiling.

"I could definitely use a Tyrogue in my team!" I exclaimed, and grabbed the Pokeball that I just kept just now. I noticed that the echos reverberated because of the cave walls, which probably annoyed the Tyrogue. He turned and glared at me with his yellow irises, while straining his eyebrows at me as well, as if he was mad at me. If I have to state a reason, it'd probably be that he was annoyed at me for disturbing his training.

Without hesitation, I flung the Pokeball out and the bright flash emerged from the insides of the sphere. Forming the silhouette of the bird Pokemon that I sent earlier again, my Staraptor let out a growl the moment he was out from his Pokeball. The Tyrogue froze in his actions immediately, while the stare on his face was no longer present. Replacing the earlier facial expression, was nothing but a frightened look.

"Staraptor, start out with your Aerial Ace. Though, try to go a little easy on it," I told my Pokemon.

The small cave restricted the movements of Staraptor by a little bit, but that was still not enough to restrict her from using her signature move, Aerial Ace. She took flight forwards and did a 360 degrees turn in mid-air, before heading for the Tyrogue once again. All of this was almost in a blur, due to my Staraptor being very speedy. Once Tyrogue tried to move, Staraptor would disappear for a sudden flash, only to reappear right in front of Tyrogue to score a direct strike. Or so, I hoped that the compact area would not decrease Staraptor's chances of hitting the Tyrogue.

OOC: Ataro-san, please do not imply that intimidate worked - that's my job =)

IC:
"A Staraptor, eh? A good choice for this match. Hell, the young-one is already intimidated by your fierce Pokémon, Ataro!" I mentioned, working as a sports-like commentator like those in the soccer games I was so fond of watching. Indeed, my role was that of the guy who takes care of the field after the players are gone.

At any rate, Tyrogue was visibly shaken by the fierce war-shout of Staraptor, who launched herself in a swift dive against the still-flinched Tyrogue, disappearing now and then from view, creating a very confusing - and I must say, effective - attack pattern. Her wings began to glow blue, leaving a trail of a faint white color in a double-line fashion, her peak shaping a crescendo arrow.

Tyrogue seemed frightened at first, but then it heard my words, and he despised them completely. Just a few moments before Staraptor made her hit, it crossed his arms in a defensive posture, lowering his gravity center and rooting his feet deep down on the ground. It took the impact fully, sliding with the inertia of the attack until Staraptor was completely stopped. For a moment, Staraptor floated in the air, a few inches away from Tyrogue, who's hands were visibly damaged by the Aerial Ace.

Nonetheless, Tyrogue were renowned for ignoring any damage taken in order to attack and become stronger.
"HEADBUTT!" I yelled, watching how Tyrogue slammed his small cranium into Staraptor's face. The attack wasn't very strong, because Tyrogue had no space to make a full head-movement. Still it was a force that would damage Staraptor, if only slightly...

OOC: Okay, didn't know that. :O

IC:
It looks like this battle wasn't as simple as I thought. The Tyrogue pulled off some kind of defensive move that lowered the impact of Staraptor's Aerial Ace instead. Still, his hands were bruised and had red swollen marks all over the spot in which he had been hit by my Pokemon's move.

"HEADBUTT!" Marth yelled, as the Tyrogue slammed his small cranium into Staraptor's face. I knew the attack wasn't very strong because Staraptor didn't even flinch or back away after it. She took it head-on and shook her violently to get back into the spirit of the battle. She let out a howl this time, letting me know that she was way beyond okay, and was ready for another attack anytime.

I looked forward to study the Tyrogue's stance. His legs were wide apart, his hands were brought up to display a "karate" stance, while he continued to glare at my Staraptor. Knowing my Staraptor's nature, it'd be best if I went for a straight out attack. Thus, I knew what I needed to do.

"Staraptor, begin with another Aerial Ace. This time, start out from the left and quickly angle into the right, repeating this continuously until your target is close by, then overwhelm your opponent with your Aerial Ace. At the same time, speed up your movements with a Quick Attack!" I commanded, watching my Staraptor disappear from her current position immediately.

She took off, leaving a trail of white flash behind her, all trapped in a tornado of the sand and dirt on the ground and among the surroundings. I watched as she zig-zagged her way through the confined area, forming a huge pattern that looked as if was made up of many "Z"s. In fact, it was very hard for her to zig-zag her way through because she needed to control her speed, thus she wouldn't be fast. Luckily, I had her use Quick Attack to boost her speed even further, thus allowing her to be fast enough even around turning points. I watched, as the attack tries to connect.

Tyrogue had seen this attack pattern once, and thus he would know how to defend against it properly. Of course, that's what fighting-Pokémon do - to learn of their mistakes and become stronger each turn of a battle. Tyrogue had learned of the previous Aerial Ace, and began forming a sphere of sorts around his body. However, Tyrogue was not able to predict the increase in speed that Staraptor had added to his attack, and thus the detect barrier was not fully formed when the bird struck, and hard, tearing through the defensive wall and striking Tyrogue again.
Tyrogue was thrown to the floor this time, unable to avoid the hit. Just as it was about to hit the other wall, it turned around in mid-air and recoiled off with a High-jump-lick, launching itself against the bird with the fury of a tiger. His position was lateral, and it seemed that his right leg would be the one to deliver the blow, for the left knee was flexed, cutting the air and leaving a trail of blue mist as it shortened the distance between it and his enemy. It could be either a left knee hit or a right leg kick.
Staraptor, on the other hand, was still suffering from the inertia of hitting the detect barrier, and was temporarily static on the air. Would the kick reach its target on time?

I had made a mistake. The Tyrogue already knew the pattern of my Aerial Ace and was able to create a defensive barrier to block the attack. Luckily, I had Staraptor used Quick Attack as well, and the attack managed to connect just before the barrier was completed. Flying in at an extreme speed, Staraptor glided across the half-finished barrier; smashing into the Tyrogue with all her might. Though, she scraped her body instead, as a result of a small collision with the sides of the barrier.

Suddenly, the wild Pokemon recoiled himself from the ground, launching himself like a huge cannonball. His left knee seemed flexed, which could only mean that the Tyrogue would most probably hit Staraptor with his right leg. It would be either a left knee hit or a right leg kick. Either both, Staraptor wouldn't like getting damaged. I wanted to call out commands to my fellow partner, but it seemed to be useless because she was temporarily static on the air, due to the hitting of the detect barrier earlier.

I know that my Staraptor has a nature, where she actually requires her trainer to praise her for a job well done, so that she can feel appreciative and give it all her best. This would be a good time to try.

"Staraptor, that Aerial Ace Quick Attack combo was really great! But I need you regain control once again, so that you won't get hurt by the attack. This time, separate yourself into multiple copies with Double Team. Once you have the High-Jump-Kick avoided, follow up with a Wing Attack immediately," I yelled, while keeping my eyes focused on my bird Pokemon that was still motionless in the air, trying to shake off the static.

Staraptor made duplicate copies of itself as Tyrogue advanced towards it, preparing his wings at the same time for striking her opponent by drawing them backwards for an instant to get a recoil effect. It created five copies, the one in the middle being the receipt of Tyrogue's kick.

The jumping fighter, however was not to remain without doing anything; it extended his right leg prematurely, without performing the original kick, instead, it landed his attack onto the middle copies head, using it as a trampoline to launch itself at the right copy, twisting his body to use the left leg this time. The first copy disappeared with a puff, and the second one soon followed. The third copy, however, was actually Staraptor, who noticed this attack pattern and launched itself with a Wing Attack against his foe, moving itself inches to the left in order to avoid the incoming jump kick.

The wing struck Tyrogue's head, stopping him out cold in his tracks, and falling to the ground instantly. The Tyrogue, however, did not rise again - it was knocked out cold!

"Aw, shucks, it seems like you overdid it. Maybe you should have thrown your poke ball as it jumped to kick you. Don't worry, they are very common around this area."

Battle stats:

Tyrogue, male, @ KO'd
Staraptor, female, at 80%,

Battle note: Notice how the original aerial ace did 40%, and that this time there was no way Tyrogue could've used detect again. So at 25% health, the wing attack would've KO'd unless the trainer had specifically asked to power-down the attack.
