Mew Glitch for Pokemon RBY
Okay, so I was bored and began playing Pokemon Red over again. Being the nerd I am, I researched some stuff on Gamewinners [my fave cheat site] and found this:

Make sure to have a weak Pokemon that can safely weaken a Pokemon at level 7, or have some Ultra or Master Balls. Go through the underground passage, and as soon as you exit, do not move. Save the game at this point. Then, walk one step down and immediately press Start. If done corectly, the gambler will not notice you. Go directly to the Pokemon status screen and Fly to Cerulean City. Notice that once you start flying, the Gambler will have an exclamation mark above his head, which indcates that he has noticed you. Once you get to Cerulean City, notice that Start does not work. This is because the game thinks you are in a battle with the Gambler, and Start usually does not function during battles. Walk up Nugget Bridge and find the youngster with the Slowpoke. Do not walk directly up to him or the game will crash. Walk up to him so that he will have to walk over to you. When he notices you, defeat his Slowpoke. Start will work again. Fly to Lavender Town. Go left towards where the Gambler is located. When you get to Route 8, your start menu will automatically appear. Do not save the game. Instead, immediately press B to close the start menu. You will be attacked by a level 7 Mew. Catch it, then save the game.

I'm curious about this glitch, and I'd like to ask if any fellow Pe2k members knew if this glitch is legit. Please leave your comments here, thank you.

Re: Mew Glitch for Pokemon RBY
I never did it personally, but a friend of mine did, and I'm pretty sure that it's legit.

Re: Mew Glitch for Pokemon RBY
It's legit, I did it on my Yellow once. The glitch basically digs into the framework of the game and pulls up the coding of the Pokemon. I taught mine Fire Blast, Fly, Surf and Earthquake, and called it AVATAR.

Re: Mew Glitch for Pokemon RBY
Well, I did it on my Yellow version with no problem at all. My game was perfectly a-okay while I was doing the glitch and afterward (the friend I sold it to has had no problems). The Mew I caught didn't know crazy moves like Dig or Water Pulse and had no weird-looking sprite; it merely learned its normal level-up moves. So in a nutshell, the glitch is real and will cause no problems to your game.

Yes, it works perfectly like Kat said and won't do any future harm to your game.

Re: Mew Glitch for Pokemon RBY
The only harm that may come is short term (i.e. until you turn off the game). For the most part, it's just the game crashes if the trainer doesn't walk up to you.
I've done it numerous times with numerous trainers and it's worked with no ramifications.

Re: Mew Glitch for Pokemon RBY
This trick IS indeed legit, and harmless I have done it on all of my original games with success. The only potential problem is that you have to get the youngster to approach you, if you approach him the game is said to lock up.
