Ranger Hyacinth
Mt. Deckbi

Alden seemed quite excited at the sight of the rhyno Pokemon. He quickly summoned his trusty umbreon, and ordered an attack. "Alright Umbreon," he yelled enthusiastically. "Use a Faint Attack."

The nightly Pokemon sidestepped, and then nothing. Somehow, she managed to disappear in the very narrow space the cave gave- an eye trick, maybe, or short boost of speed? Who knows? The Pokemon probably hoped to surprise the opponent and then hit while it was distracted, however...

However, Rhyhorn was far too engrossed in the foe-tossing charge (albeit without foes in the way, nor tossing) to even notice the small thing disappearing, and kept going towards the humans, totally unaware of them being there as well.

In an attempt to avoid her master to be hurt, Umbreon hastily finished her Faint Attack, only instead of a sneaky hit below the belt, she resorted to a blow in the rock Pokemon's face, making it turn slightly, which was enough to make it hit a wall- however, the dark Pokemon didn't exactly calculate well the hit, ricocheting not very well on a side wall nearby.

After the booming noise of its hitting the wall, Rhyhorn rather slowly turned around, looking not so much worse for the wear, as a little surprised at the outer disturbance. Shrugging its head, it noticed the black Pokemon not too far, and decided to attack it.

OoC: I think I'm not supposed to do this myself, but Dragoness has been MIA for a while now, and Jess asked me to take over. Sooo...

Btw Jess, I think you don't know that, if memory serves me right, Attract can end at the ranger's discretion. Just, y'know, reminding, 'cause you seemed to chastise Dragoness over that.

~Ranger Sara~
Meteor Valley

The last combo seemed successful, and to top it off, Jess really seemed to have completely recovered from her earlier confusion.

Things as they were, Saundra decided she'd like to give a shot at catching Gastly- they ARE pretty useful Pokemon, after all. However, on the grounds that you can never be prepared enough, the trainer issued a couple other orders. First, she asked her Froslass to create another clone- to whom give the role to use the Hyper Ball on Gastly- then, she had to use Thunder Wave on Gastly, to divert his attention. Quite the clever plan, but would it work, given how fatigued the snow ghost was becoming?

Froslass breathed heavily, focusing part of her energy into the creation of a new copy, not as strong as the "meat shield" she was using, but it wasn't supposed to take any hit anyway, so there was no issue. All the while, Gastly kept watching, bewitched, as the shapely figures of the ice Pokemon danced idly around him.

The energy flew and detatched from Jess, taking the form of a rather pale ghost... only, moreso than she already is. The trainer handed the Pokeball to the new clone while the original, a little worse for the wear, prepared herself for the next- hopefully last- step.

Static energy gathered between the ice Pokemon's arms as she wove and wove, crackling electricity floating between her arms. With a quick, fluid motion, Jess pirouetted and launched the paralysing wave, sidestepping behind her sleeping clone.

Gastly managed to overcome his infatuation, shaking his body as he realized how foolish he was being. Noticing the complex moves Jess was putting up, the gas sphere focused his energy into creating a Shadow Ball, trying to counteract the incoming attack. Purple energy twirled in front of the poison Pokemon, and, when he deemed it ready, the attack as launched towards Jess, who had been sidestepping behind her clone already.

The Shadow Ball struck true, but only the substitute took the hit, albeit it was very, very strong- it being defenseless while sleeping, along with Jess not being able to do anything to lessen the damage, brought it to its destruction.

However, neither did the Thunder Wave miss, and the Gastly now found himself unable to control his movements very well, which only made it easier for the second clone to sneak up, and hit him with the Hyper Ball.

The sphere stopped. Gastly was caught.

OOC: Thanks a bunch, DG, I appreciate this a lot ^^. I was gonna end my Park visit, but I suppose I can hang around and try to finish it, since I only have five encounters left.

IC: Saundra Blake

After a long battle full of combos and damage, Gastly was finally captured. I smiled widely as Froslass sighed gently, letting her clones dissipate and reabsorbing the remaining dregs of energy back into her tired body. I walked over to give her a one-armed hug of encouragement and thanks, and the Ghost looked up with a smile.

“That was great, Jess, you did an awesome job! Now, let’s get you back in your Ball so you can take a well-deserved rest.” I fished Jess’ PokeBall from my pocket and recalled the ice-ghost, then went over to retrieve the Hyper Ball containing Gastly. I grinned a little and turned to say something to Amonea, only to see that she was gone and some guy was with me now. I blinked a few times, momentarily confused and worried, but then remembered having seen him from earlier. He was one of the Rangers here. I gave a smile and pocketed Gastly’s Hyper Ball, going over to nod at the Ranger.

“Looks like Amonea had to leave. I was so caught up in the battle that I didn’t notice her going or you coming!” I chuckled a little and glanced around. It was beginning to grow dark, and I didn’t know if I wanted to hang around here too long after night fell. I wasn’t a sissy or anything, but nighttime is the domain of most of the Pokemon in this area, and they’d be coming out in force once daylight faded. I didn’t want to be running into a Dark or Ghost Pokemon every five steps and wear my Pokemon down needlessly.

“Anyways,” I said, turning back to the new Ranger, “my name is Saundra Blake, in case you weren’t told. You can tell me your name as we head on; I don’t want to hang around after dark. Too many Pokemon will be out and about, and I don’t want to run into dozens of Poochyena and the like.”

OoC: hm... oh well, I guess it's fine, Jess. Though you're making me do an alternate character on the fly >.> Ok i guess

Ranger BiBi
Meteor Valley

I shook the woman's hand as she presented herself to me. "Yess, they told me, but I had expected to find Sara around here," I told her as I looked around. "I was told to relay some orders to her... Well, I don't think she's in trouble, she's a capable ranger after all. I'm Ranger Brisbane, by the way, but you can call me Bibi." I gave her a warm smile, hoping she wouldn't take too much a notice of my rather girly nickname- still less embarassing than my weird name, anyway. "I agree we should get moving, I doubt the Pokemon would like much if we were to camp here."

And so, with my new trainer to escort in tow, we strolled through the valley, and I occasionally pointed out, taking cover when needed, some of the more interesting "waking up" of the night time Valley- such as, a Banette tending to her little Shuppets, teaching them the "art" of emotion-hunting, a couple of Mightyena's in a rather articulate seduction ritual, a Delibird bullying a crying Drowzee...

Wait a minute. What was a Delibird doing there? And why was it bullying that poor Drowzee?

"Something isn't right..." I said, gesturing to Saundra to make her follow me. I approached the elephant-nosed Psychic Pokemon and the Santa-themed bird, hoping to find out more. "Hey, you!" I yelled at the ice Pokemon. "What are you doing to that poor Drowzee?"

As the tapir Pokemon took notice of us humans, it went cowering behind me in deep tears. Man, that was such a bad example of Pokemon, that Delibird was. I took a Pokeball off my belt, and stared down the Delibird, who looked back with a childlike expression on the face. "Looks like you need to be taught a lession, huh?" Then I remembered I was taking a trainer with me. I could as well let her handle it, if she wanted to. "What do you say, Saundra? Want to teach this Delibird its place in the world?"

I scowled at the Delibird as it stared up at us, the picture of innocence. The sounds of Drowzee’s sobs might have had anyone else painting the delivery bird as the bad guy, but I knew things weren’t always as they seemed. When my new Ranger offered me a chance to teach Delibird a lesson, I shook my head and raised a hand.

“No, I think there’s more here than meets the eye,” I said, trying not to wince at the use of an old cliché. I knelt down and slowly held a hand out to the Delibird, speaking in a low, soft voice as I smiled at it. “Now then, why on earth would you be picking on someone? I’ve heard Delibird are supposed to be friendly and good-natured. Well, unless someone tries to steal the gifts they carry in their tails…”

I trailed off, wondering if perhaps that’s what happened. Delibird were extremely protective of the items they carried around, only giving them out to people they deemed worthy. Maybe Drowzee had thought it could snag something from a passing Delibird, and had gotten a butt-kicking in return for its efforts. I glanced at the tapir, still hiding behind Brisbane, and gave it a comforting smile.

“I’m not sure if we can find out what happened, but I’m certain there’s a way to resolve this without anyone else getting beat up on.”

OoC: you're troubling me, y'know?

Ranger BiBi
Meteor Valley

Saundra tried a different approach from the one I had intended, though I couldn't say if that was for the best or the worst. She knelt beside the Pokemon and had a soft face-to-face discussion with the bird. After talking a bit of sense into it, she turned to Drowzee, who had calmed down a little behind me, and said. "I’m certain there’s a way to resolve this without anyone else getting beat up on."

"I sure hope so..." I said under my breath, an ominous feeling building up. I was sure I was forgetting something, but I wasn't quite sure of what...

The red-and-white bird angelically smiled to the girl, seemingly appeased. It then rummaged through the sack its specie always carried around, then handed to Saundra a boxed gift. It urged her to accept it, then took off.

Not too much time later, the box exploded in a smokescreen. I yelled worried for my trainer's safety, but apparently she was all right- well, other than the shock. I summoned my Mothim and told him to blow the smoke away, and he eagerly complied.

"I'm sorry, it's all my fault..." I said as I helped Saundra up. "I should've known it'd end up like this, that Delibird is a renown troublemaker around the Park, and we even were ordered to look out for it. I was supposed to relay the message to Sara, since it was supposed to still be around here." I sighed. "I should've done something about it myself. No use in crying over spilled milk now, although we can't let it get away scottt-free. Tim!" I turned to my oversized moth. "Try to follow its trail, and if you find it, keep it occupied until we arrive there. Shoot a Signal Beam upwards to tell us your location, ok?" He nodded. "Ok, I'm counting on you."

That said, the tan moth took flight in the direction Delibird flew to earlier, leaving me and Saundra- and the Drowzee too- there.

"Now then, since apparently this Drowzee wasn't really at fault, what do we do?" I asked the girl.

I waved away a few dregs of smoke hanging around my face, still a bit startled by Delibird trying to blow me up. I then sighed softly and focused on Drowzee, smiling a little at the small tan-and-brown tapir. It seemed to have calmed down a bit by now, and in good enough health that I didn't have to worry about it.

"We can let it go, I guess. Delibird left and I'm sure this little fella would like to get wherever it was going. Unless you'd rather hang around?" I directed this at Drowzee, giving the Pokemon a chance to travel with us, just in case it was afraid Delibird might come after it later. I highly doubted that, but Brisbane had said it was a troublemaker, so I couldn't rule out the possibility that it might return and try to pick on Drowzee again.

Saundra asked the little brown-and-tan tapir Pokemon if it'd rather follow us for a little while, to which it happily agreed. True, the Drowzee seemed to have calmed down considerably after a few kind words, however there still was the possibility that the Delibird would escape my Mothim and cause more mischief.

"Whatever rocks your boat," I said with a shrug. "I think it'd be better if we started to make our way back to the Outpost. It's getting late, and your Park visit is almost finished too."

That said, I checked my compass to pinpoint the general direction of the nearest Outpost- they're special compasses, calibrated to respond to a special magnetic field centered around the Outpost. Since, somehow, the Island seemed to screw up magnetic fields and normal compasses, we had figured a way to still use them.

"Follow me," I said both to the girl and the Pokemon as I made my way towards some kind of hill. It wasn't too steep, so we didn't have much troubles climbing it up, but I kept paying attention to Saundra in case she needed.

The Drowzee, however, needed.

"Ok, ok, I'm coming," I said, then I helped it up. "Are you ok?"

The tapir Pokemon dusted itself off, so I nodded. "Good, let's go now."

We arrived on top, but I wasn't too sure about where the Outpost was. There were various other places more or less the same height, and sparse trees didn't help much.

"Look, there's a pool there!" I said as I pointed in front of me. "It's a good place as any, if you want to rest a little. Shall we go there?"

Before Saundra could reply, however, an Unown lifted itself off the ground, looking quite groggy.

A good trip to the Park is certainly a lot better than even the hardest day at the Gym. Running here and there, trying to avoid random Wild Pokemon, and moving over the terrain had probably helped me loose a couple of pounds today. I didn’t complain, though. I was in good shape, so all this roughing-it stuff wasn’t too much of a challenge. Us Trainers got used to this sort of thing anyways, having to do it pretty much every day for years as we journeyed the world.

My Ranger suggested we head for the Outpost, since it was getting dark and my visit was coming to a close. We headed off, soon reaching a gently rolling hill. After a bit of climbing we reached the top, with poor Drowzee having a bit of a hard time of things, and Brisbane pointed out a pool in the near distance. I started to nod when he asked if we should take a rest there, but at that moment an Unown floated into the air in front of me. It’s single eyelid was drooping, giving it a drowsy expression. I slowly scooted a few steps to the left, not wanting to spook it. Once I’d given it some space to move by me, I waved towards the pool and smiled, speaking in a soft voice.

“A rest sounds good, I suppose. I think it’ll do Drowzee some good, too,” I said, keeping an eye on Unown just in case we somehow startled it and it attacked, or did so simply out of spite.

Meteor Valley

"Good, I'm sure our little friend here will enjoy a little refresh," I said to the trainer.

We descended the other side carefully, leaving the sleepy Unown behind- it probably flew from some underground cave, with some kind of small opening from the ground, and then we headed for the pond. As we neared it, we could notice a quite large furry animal quenching its thirst there. I stopped Saundra from advancing further.

"I think it's an Absol, so we should be quite cautious when approaching one," I said quietly to her. "Many of them can be quite bitter towards humans, since they've been treated quite bad in the past. Of course, none of this happens in the Park, but one can never be too safe."

Just to prove me wrong, Drowzee- the shy, crybaby Drowzee- as soon as it saw the Dark Pokemon from afar, rejoiced and ran away from us, towards its... friend?

"That's odd..." I muttered. "Let's go after them."

The Disaster Pokemon turned towards the incoming tapir, and howled in delight as the other Pokemon joined him, briefly stopping from drinking the water.

After a brief exchange of cries, they turned to us with a kind face.

"I wonder what they're up to...."

Danni immediately sent out her Linoone, and trusted it to target Kangaskhan's weak point with Slash. The weasel dashed towards the raging beast and jumped claws extended and forelegs outstretched. They struck across Kangaskhan's side, striking tender tissue and weak muscle. Khangaskhan roared again, this time out of pain, and turned that pain to anger. It spun around and charged Linoone with its fist drawn. The clawed hand lit up a bright white, and struck forward in an uppercut, hitting the weasel in the chin. Due to its light weight and the force of the Mega Punch, Linoone literally flipped through the air, landing belly-up on the ground a meter away. Kangaskhan huffed, the sharp wound in its side still stinging.

Awww, how cute. And totally unexpected. It seemed Drowzee was friends with the Absol drinking from the pool, which I never would have guessed. Absol could be pretty vicious things when they wanted to be, and Drowzee had seemed a bit, well, cowardly. How these two had managed to befriend one another was a mystery, but it was sweet.

And boy, what kind of luck to run into an Absol, eh? In fact, a friend of mine had specifically told me to catch him one, if I had the chance, and here it was. Of course, I was feeling guilty of thinking about catching the canine. After all, it and Drowzee were clearly good friends, and I didn’t think either would take it well if I randomly came out and tried to take one of them away. So I decided to be diplomatic about the situation, smiling at the two and kneeling a safe distance away. I draped my arms over my legs, closely watching the Pokemon so I could gauge their reactions and act appropriately.

“Well, I’m glad Drowzee came with us. Seems you two are happy to see each other, and I can tell you that makes me happy, too. But I’ve heard Absol are really, REALLY good Pokemon, strong and fast and able to adapt to situations with ease. This is the first time I’ve ever had the chance to even see one, though, let alone battle one. I’ve always dreamt of having a really strong Pokemon on my team. What do you say we have a test of strength, Absol? You could show everyone just how strong an Absol is if you traveled with me. And if you and your friend Drowzee don’t want to be split up, well…we could always make this a double battle, and then you two could both come with me.”

I smiled and hoped Absol would have its ego stoked enough by my words to accept my challenge. I was lying about never having seen an Absol, because I actually did own one. I wasn’t exaggerating when it came to describing their battle capabilities, though. They really were strong and fast, and because they could glimpse the future to an extent, they were highly capable of adapting to changing situations. And concerning Drowzee…well, I didn’t really want to catch it, but I was loathe to split the friends up, so if they wanted to make this a double battle I wouldn’t complain.

=====

OOC: So yeah, unless you feel like making this a double battle and rolling an extra Pokemon, I don’t really want to battle Drowzee too lol.

I could spot a lie from miles away, and Saundra certainly was weaving a pretty one. I figured I should lend a hand, if I can, since it was fairly obvious that Saundra was trying to weasel her way out of confronting the Drowzee.

"Drowzee," I spoke calmly to the dream-eater Pokemon. "I'm sure Saundra has a good reason for not wanting to challenge you," I said trying to pamper the little Pokemon. "You don't look like the type to like battles, am I wrong? While, however, your friend there does look like it'd enjoy a brawl. So how about bot you and I sit out of this and see how it turns out?"

The timid Drowzee turned to its friend who nudged it towards me. Looks like I guessed right. I waited for him to come closer, before going on a different direction, near the water pool, to sit on a conveniently placed large rock, near my voyeur friend.

I winked at Saundra, and waited for the two of them to decide how to continue.

I smiled my thanks at Brisbane as he led Drowzee to a rock near the pool, then faced Absol. I quickly ran through my options as I eyed the canine; Ripper would have the best type advantage, but he’d already faced off with a couple of Pokemon today and deserved to sit out for the rest of the visit. Jess wasn’t really in the condition for another tough battle so soon after her last one, and even if she were at full strength it would have been stupid to send her against something like an Absol. Shade, my Gengar, would be at a disadvantage type-wise, but he could easily make up for that with his large repertoire of moves and his ability to become incorporeal. And finally there was Seagem, my Dragonite. A bulky creature capable of speed and agility that surprised people who didn’t work closely with one, a Dragonite could take as good as it gave, and it could give a hell of a lot.

Decided, I pulled Seagem’s Ball out and released her in a blast of white light. The tall, tan-orange scaled Dragon flapped her small wings upon materializing, looking glad to be out of her Ball for a time. She waved her cream antenna and flexed her muscular arms, swishing her heavy tail as she took in the area. When she spotted Absol, her muzzle broke into a devious smile. She glanced back at me for confirmation of a battle and I nodded at her.

“We’ve got ourselves a battle to win,” I told her, watching as she laced her claws together and stretched her arms out, popping the joints. She then dropped her arms and stared at Absol, waiting for her first orders. “Let’s start off with something simple,” I said after taking stock our surroundings. “Use your speed to zip past Absol and throw it into the pool. As it’s climbing out, increase your stats with a Dragon Dance, and finally, follow up with Thunder Wave. You know where to aim it. After that, we’ll wear it down battling your way.”

Seagem nodded, apparently satisfied, and pumped her wings. The Dragonite was a sassy thing, always wanting to show off and be the center of attention. That kind of attitude made battling with her difficult at times, so we’d come to a compromise. I would give her a few attacks to do without flair or style, and after that we’d switch to flamboyant battling that would let her show off as much as she pleased. It didn’t hurt when her “normal” attacks let her show off to begin with, either.

After working up enough momentum, Seagem took to the air. It was a ridiculous sight, something so large and ungainly flying on such tiny wings. A Dragonite could move faster than an angry Seviper, though, in spite of their mass and small wings. Seagem, being the attention-hog she was, spiraled in tight circles to build up speed, then shot towards Absol like a giant scaly arrow. Instead of striking the other, though, she rocketed by him. The suction of displaced air should be more than strong enough to fling Absol the several feet between it and the pool.

Without missing a beat or stopping to see if the first part of our plan worked, Seagem dove into the next part of her combo. She angled her body upwards and spun several times, then threw her wings open and gracefully arched, falling back towards the earth. She spiraled coming down, twisted her body at the last moment, and gave her wings a mighty beat before landing on a single paw, her other leg still in the air. Arms out for balance, the Dragonite pirouetted, raising her arms over her head and bringing her other paw down. Firmly grounded, she folded her wings and executed a showy bow, tendrils of red-blue energy arching over her form. The dance had allowed her to tap into the primal draconic energy within her body, suffusing her being with it to increase her strength and speed.

Twirling to face the lake, Seagem prepared the final move. A Dragonite’s antenna were used to draw static electricity from its body, storing it and making it available for Electric attacks. This was a secondary trait, though, the first being to keep the electricity from overloading the Pokemon’s muscles during long bouts of flying. Aiming them at Absol, Seagem rubbed them together to prime the energy, then waited. She wasn’t looking to hit Absol with the attack, but rather his water trail. Absol have very thick fur, which can hold much more water than one would first think. Even after shaking, they tended to leave giant puddles wherever they went for a good ten minutes. The trick was to catch Absol off-guard by hitting the water he dripped with the Thunder Wave. It would travel through the water he trailed and hit him, and he wouldn’t expect it coming. Unless, of course, he happened to glimpse that moment of the future, but it was a very slim possibility.

=====

OOC: Absol = male, btw ^^.

Danni Fetter
Botanic Gardens

Danni watched as her Linoone attacked, wincing as the opponent roared. It seemed that the weasel had had been to find a weak spot, and she strained her eyes to see where that was. The small, furry body got in the way, though. It looked like whatever had happened had angered the Kangaskhan, for it spun around, hitting the much smaller Pokemon with a powerful Mega Punch. Ouch. That had to hurt, she thought as her Pokemon went flying through the air, landing on his back.

She watched as the weasel Pokemon squirmed, rolling himself onto his side and then pushing himself to his feet with his paws. As he stood there, his sides showed his deep pants, and his trainer had to pause to consider if she should let him keep fighting. Maybe just one or two more attacks, depending on the Kangaskhan's strength, and then she would let him rest.

"Okay, Linoone, get a good Headbutt in!" she called, cupping her hands around her mouth to magnify the yell. Considering the height difference, she added, "Try and jump right before making contact, and avoid it's arms if you can!" She bit her lip in concern. If he succeeded in ramming into the enemy, would he be able to get away in time, or would the same thing happen that resulted from his Slash? "Flinch, flinch, flinch," she chanted under her breath, crossing her fingers.
