Pokemon Learning League - Overview
Pokemon Learning League is a web-based educational suite of standards-driven, interactive animated lessons. The program is designed to help teachers reinforce core curriculum topics in Math, Science, and Language Arts for students in third through sixth grades. In response to the growing demand for support in teaching prosocial behaviors, Pokemon Learning League also covers Life Skills development featuring topics ranging from sportsmanship to conflict resolution.
Pokemon Learning League leverages its long history of entertaining children to address school subjects in a natural, inviting and non-threatening manner. The leading Pokemon themes of teamwork, improved skills, hard work, and being a good student are threaded throughout the content to provide positive modeling and motivate students in their learning. The program leverages digital media's appealing animation and entertaining character storylines, as well as its interactivity and personalization that are suggested to help re-engage students back into the curriculum. As students progress through the lessons, they receive positive reinforcement and monitor their progress by earning points toward badges in the curriculum areas.
Supportive instruction in a three-step format lets students proceed at their own pace:
The learning adventure begins with a narrative-based animated segment in which students, along with the Pokemon characters, are introduced to the educational concept.
Next, students collaborate with the characters to explore and interact with the material, receiving feedback and support to help deepen their understanding.
After practicing with the material, students have an opportunity to apply what they have learned to interactive challenges.
The components of Pokemon Learning League are developed by experienced education writers and producers and are evaluated by an Advisory Board of leading elementary educators and practitioners of technology in education. The program is aligned with state and national standards to reinforce classroom lessons and support teachers in their existing efforts to promote and maximize student learning. Teacher supporting resources are also included in the program to help teachers integrate the program in classroom instruction.
The program will be available to schools, home-school families, and after-school programs on a subscription basis.
