Default Pokemon Challenge *Normal Difficulty*

So I did a quick internet search to see what sort of challenges trainers have created to make a Pokemon game harder to beat. Most of the ones lead me to believe that they're plenty of masochists in Pokemon community. Like the KO rule where fainted Pokemon must be released or the no Poke'Center usage rule. While these are indeed challenges (and the game needs a bit more of a challenge for more advanced trainers), here are a few fun challenges I've created for a SS/HG Playthrough...

Middle Ground- When battling another Trainer outside of a Gym, you are only allowed to use the same amount of Pokemon as your opponent. (You may hold more though)

Switcheroo- While battling any Trainer, you are not allowed to peak at which Pokemon he/she is about to send out. (You are allowed to swap if you wish)

Higher Ground- Upon entering the Gym You are only allowed to hold as many Pokemon as the Gym Leader. You are also not permitted to leave until you've defeated the Gym leader. (Save before entering, not allowed to save inside)

Capsize- You are not allowed to enter a Gym with a Pokemon at a Lv higher than the Gym Leader.

Master of All- You may not enter a Gym with a Pokemon you've already used at a prior Gym. (Evolutions count as a prior use)

Gym Sweat- You must challenge each Gym trainer and you aren't allowed to hold or use any item until before facing the Gym Leader.

Noob Ball- During a random encounter with a wild Pokemon, you are only allowed to use a standard Poke'ball to catch it. (This doesn't apply to Safari Zone or Bug-Catching Contest type of events)

OCD Collector- You must've caught every Pokemon made available before entering a Pokemon Gym. (Only in the areas covered)

Ordinary- All Legendary Pokemon are forbidden to use in battle. Also no trading or Poke'transfer before the Elite Four.

Under-prescribe- No potions allowed while battling another trainer

What do you guys think? Give me some of your guyes challenges/handicaps.

These sound pretty fun. The one I use in practically game is...

B Button Master - Only completely unevolved Pokemon may be used.

I mostly do it because they're cuter that way. xD But I guess it does make the games a little more challenging too.

I used to do OCD collector without realizing it.
At the moment, I'm doing Living Pokedex on my White game

Yeah the idea is to do all of them (or some combination), its sort-of what I'd imagine a Pokemon game to be like if it had a harder difficulty. I'm sure many of you have done one or two of these times. It makes it more realistic too. If you were in a real pokemon battle, the other trainer wouldn't give you a heads-up to which pokemon he/she'll use next. And in the anime (well at least in the first season) trainers aren't allowed more pokemon that the opponent. That wouldn't be fair. As for gym battles, they aren't difficult enough.

@PT Sarah- I've heard of something similar to that. I saw it on a past post by one of your members. Its what brought me to your guyes site.

I might want to try that out in a future playthrough.

City Skipper

In HG/SS, skip Jasmine and Chuck and go directly to Pyrce with your current team.

Never did it, but seems like a challenge for those willing to try. c:

Lolz @ Youngster Joey Challenge.

I remember accidentally pulling a city skipper on my first playthrough of Gold. Not sure if I got the badge though or if I came back.

Not using a HM slave is just torture. Pokemon should make HMs an extension to the 4 standard moves, not being used in battle of course. Waterfall and strength are decent though..

Interesting. Didn't even realise that was possible. xD

The Youngster Joey one is great xD

How about a
Monotype Challenge: Play through the game with only one type of Pokemon on your team.

It's probably not very difficult due to all the dual types available. But you could ban dual types as well for extra difficulty!

Okay...

Angry Tonberry- Beat the entire game only using Cut. (Once HM1 is made available)

Hazed and Confused- Teach a Zubat Haze and Confuse Ray. Beat the rest of the game only using those two moves.

You can only use one Pokemon of one type. WAIT. Annnnnnnndddddd one item and limited battles, meaning you can only battle so many Trainers.

Anime Challenge: choose a character from the Pokemon anime (the most popular being Ash) and only use/catch Pokemon that this Trainer has.

In my regular play throughs, I almost always do Ordinary and UnderPerscribe. I feel like if you can't beat a trainer without potions, your pokes aren't strong enough, and you don't deserve a win. Except for the Elite 4. Then I use potions and revives, because it's almost impossible to make it through without them

I had a friend who beat red with level 100 bellsprout. I think would be a fun challenge if i had more time.
