Default Dead Peasant Insurance: Is this ethical?

Wikipedia article
Dead Peasant Insurance by Mike Meyers

"Dead Peasant" insurance is, in all, an insurance policy purchased by the company on its employees as a method of tax deduction. In this case, once an employee dies, the company who owns the insurance becomes the beneficiary, gaining large sums of money, tax free. This was recently placed upon the forefront of the media by Michael Moore's film: "Capitalism: A Love Story." Despite the film's obvious bias, his sources were also independently found by Wall Street Journal in February earlier this year.

The issue at hand is: are dead peasant insurance policies adopted by approximately 1/4 of the Fortune 500 companies ethical?

Of course it isn't ethical. It's an abuse of company insurance policies in order to benefit from another person's death.

I wouldn't think so. The money should go to the employee's family, at least. Think about it. You slog for your company for a long time, and when you die, they get all the benefits from insurance. It's as if they didn't exploit you enough; they even have to give you a good kick in the nether regions when you die.

This. Even though it's the company and not the employee that's paying for the insurance. Really, why was it even implemented?

Because it's a symptom of capitalism?

QFT.

In a capitalistic system the final goal of everything is profit, profit, profit, and while that's not always a bad thing, and often a good thing as it leads towards development as a means of getting rich off of new ideas, in other cases, such as health insurance or corporate life insurance, it's a bad thing because it means that the people who can will attempt to prevent you from getting that money and instead keep it for themselves.
