The second one has loads of new features, like putting in abilities, items, weather, statuses, move effects, etc..., making it pretty much self-sufficient.
And it depends on your ability to ref. :o

So it's not bad to use the new one for reffing?

You can't use it for the ref test, ref quiz is okay though.
I use the new one cuz it's easier, but I"m able to use the old one.

No, it's not bad, it's just a good idea to practice on the old one until you actually pass your ref test. That way, you'll be used to accounting for abilities, weather, and other battle effects on your own without having to rely on the calculator to do those things for you.

Re: Reffing FAQ
So will the new calculator account for things such as if i put in hail and a pokemon has snow cloak, or do i have to roll to see if it hits?

The calc only has abilities and items that affect damage. It won't take move accuracy into account.

Re: Reffing FAQ
I would recommend the old one. Not only will you learn to actually ref and not have something do it all for you, but you won't get confused with all the buttons, unless that doesn't concern you. :x

Re: Reffing FAQ
And the new one does Reflect/Light Screen critical hits wrongly, I think. So you're really better off with the old one. We don't need a referee that relies on a calculator that does everything to ref. ^_^;

Re: Reffing FAQ
Two Questions,
1. About how long does it take for ref quizzes to be graded?
2. How do you roll for HP?

Matters who you send it to.
Ask an official/moderator to roll it for you.

Re: Reffing FAQ
Question Time!
So yeah, with the old Calculator, it doesn't have any of the Sinnoh Pokemon in it,
so do we just put the stats that are provided in the new Calculator, and put them in the old one?
Don't worry, I was using the wrong Old Calculator.. *Slowly walks away, hoping no-one notices*

You know, you could've just deleted your post. :P
Ataro @ So CHs don't ignore Reflect/Light Screen? Because I know they ignore Def and SP.Def rises on the opponent... :o

Hey, didn't we already talk about this.
Even Mike agreed, CH ignores Reflect/Light Screen and stat modifiers.
Check Smogon: http://www.smogon.com/dp/articles/damage_formula.
Also, the new calc is better than the old calc, since the old calc doesn't have a spot for the CH modifiers in the damage calculation. So booyah for everyone calling the new calc worse, I have made it exactly as the damage formula should be and therefor it's even better than the old calc.
And doubling the end damage or doubling the move power doesn't give the same result as the CH modifiers would. So you actually are more inaccurate if you use the old calc ways. Which could be a matter of win or lose.

Re: Reffing FAQ
I didn't say that CHs don't ignore Reflect/Light Screen. Apparently the new calc does ignores it then. which is correct. However, the damage done by a critical hit daage by a user with ATK-1, BRN, and Reflect set up on the opponent is different from the manual calculations done in the old calc.
By using the new calculator as well, people don't even know how to do Adaptability, critical hits and various simple stuffs like Reflect and Burn attack drop. It's really irritating when you're ref testing someone, and they don't know how to do Reflect/critical hits, just because they've relied on the new calculator all along. But that's just imo.

Re: Reffing FAQ
I know this probably sounds dumb but do i roll for critical hits when using the old calc? Also, what is the percentage of an attack being a critical hit, besides the attacks specified as 12.5%?
