DP138: Hikari vs Mom! Between Parent and Child!

Guess that explain the Glameow that was featured on the calendar not long ago.

And there’s the fact she lost the previous contest too. :P

I’m actually hoping it isn’t a contest actually. I’d prefer a training episode. I mean, why would Johanna want to hinder, and possibly prevent her own daughter from winning her final ribbon? The title does seem to suggest the idea of a face-off of some sort, however.

Also hoping Johanna will use something other than Glameow for the battle round. We see it featured frequently with Zoey anyway. There was a Xatu included on that aforementioned calendar as well, so maybe it could possibly relate to this episode in some way. There’s also Kangaskhan, and I have acknowledged that games =/= anime, but it would be nice to see it again. After all, the Kangaskhan filler in Kanto was my absolute favourite episode of that series. :3

Sorry for the double post, but I have some fresh information.

According to the official site, Johanna also has an Umbreon which Dawn will compete against in this episode. It also reveals that the events take place in Twinleaf Town, and Delia and Oak make an appearance. In addition, it states that Palmer will be featured in a later episode.

Ahah, sounds like a busy schedule. Also, the next episode (check the new thread I posted) seems to be a follow-up from this, like a mini-arc.

Seems like it isn't a contest after all, and just a practice episode like I hoped. Also, Delia now has a Bellossom apparently. I guess the writers are really trying to promote Johto before the remakes are released.

And it looks as if it will be a Glameow/Umbreon v Pachirisu/Piplup matchup.

Is Ash's mom going to be there, and what's her role going to be? Is this kind of like a promotion of the Johto remake of the game? I don't recall reading that the game has a link with Johto and Hoenn. But I hate to see Dawn taking on her mom. It means she'll probably lose, or maybe her mom may let her win.

I'm rather confused with what you mean here. Did you perhaps intend to write Sinnoh instead of "link with Johto"?

Besides, they always use the anime to promote the Pokemon featured in the games before they are released. Refer to the Advanced saga, where they added both Squirtle and Bulbasaur to May's team in the event of Fire Red/Leaf Green.

I'm not entirely certain of Delia's purpose here either, and don't really understand the need to give her another Pokemon, considering she doesn't utilize the one she has. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Although it isn’t evident from the pictures, the animation in the preview is flawless. I genuinely applaud Shimura; she fluctuates constantly in terms of quality; but this episode looks incredible. The drawings themselves aren’t perfect (albeit not bad in any sense), but the overall movement is fluid and fits the battle appropriately. :] Speaking of said battle, the techniques and combos used by both side look fairly interesting. Nice to see Pachirisu make use of Super Fang, since it hasn’t been seen since it actually learned the attack. Also, I like that the writers didn’t ignore the fact that Johanna’s a former Grand Festival Champion. Well, from the mere 20 seconds I seen anyway, she appeared reasonably skilled.

And if you didn’t bother to read the random waffling above, then the animation director is confirmed to be Izumi Shimura. :P
