Since you've so kindly provided links, I have no excuses. I shall give my impressions later.

I must say, for unique Black Metal, I am really digging Wolves In The Throne Room.

They are a Gothic/Doom band with Death influences. Instead of having regular guitars, they use two bass guitars. It's pretty awesome. None of you will probably like it, though. :\

Oranssi Pazuzu
Korppi

Oranssi Pazuzu put out their debut album, Muukalainen Puhuu, in April of this year. The first thing you need to know about them is their influences come from Burzum, Darkthrone, Electric Wizard, Can, and Pink Floyd. It's a wonderful mix and is some of the most unique Black Metal I've heard in a while. If any of you dislike this, you need to be slapped upside the head.

I really enjoyed Cantata Sangui, but I'll have to warm up to the other band.

I really enjoyed Oranssi Pazuzu, but the other band I'll have to listen to more to really enjoy it. The lack of electric guitars is interesting, though.

As for my favorite black metal bands as of this moment, I'm really enjoying old Satyricon and Ritual Day. Not too atmospheric, but still amazing anyways.

I'm still enjoying the hell out of Darkthrone as far as Black Metal goes. I just need to get my hands on Transylvanian Hunger, and my collection of Darkthrone's raw, cold material will be complete.

I plan to invest in Taake next, a more melodic Black Metal band I stumbled across. A few randoms by them:

Voldtekt
Umenneske
Nattestid (Part 1)
Nattestid Ser Porten Vid (Part VII)

Not the most original but everything is solid and done well and with feeling.

I'm also really enjoying this Black Metal band called Horn. They feel organic like Wolves In The Throne Room and at times have almost Folk-ish melodies. I'll definitely be ordering in their works. Here's a few songs:

Alpenland II
Hornstoß Westfalen
The Fading Landscape's Glory
Der Gast Im Frulingswald ( Nostalgie I)

I might get my lazy ass to deliver a review or two later on tonight as well.

EDIT: I found a few others that I just have to share. One is Temnozor. Very strange and interesting. The vocalist's clean voice is kind of operatic, and the music is a unique mix of Folk and Black Metal that works fluidly. Here's a few:

Arkona
Fatherland
Folkstorm Of The Azure Nights
Where The Lazure Skies Tear The Hearts Apart

The other is this band called Ulver, who caught me off guard with some of their movements and shifts in their songs. Some truly dark and beautiful Black/Folk Metal, a very special and important band. A few from them:

Capitel III: Graablick Blev Hun Vaer
I Troldskog Faren Vild
Hymn IV - Wolf and Man
Dressed In Black
Naturnmystikk
Nattens Madrigal

I've effectively made myself broke for the next few months. Check these bands out or you all suck.

Ulver was awesome. Nattens Madrigal is my favorite, and in my opinion, way better than Darkthrone's Transylvanian Hunger.

Once they quit the Black Metal scene, though... ugh.

All I've been checking out right now is their Black Metal variants. That one, Dressed In Black, is very much a different style. Unique, but I'm not sure I like it.

Speaking of more atmospheric music, I need that new Isis CD damnit.

I know I just came back, but I'm on vacation until Saturday. Won't be posting much, if at all. Just letting you know.

Oh and don't bother with the new Isis.

Yeah, they're becoming more like Tool... and Tool blows.

Isis had their prime glory days of Sludge, and now they're just going to hell.

The same thing happened to Pelican; they released 2 great EP's and 2 great albums, peaking with The Fire in Our Throats Will Beckon the Thaw. But then City of Echoes happened... gah.

I did too, but it's not as good as their sludgy post-metal stuff.

This thread needs more modern, retro-styled Black/Thrash.

Like that.

Huh.

Also, you might like http://www.metal-archives.com/band.php?id=54054 since you're into folksy things. Completely unrelated to Bart's Face.
