Where would the story go?
I was analyzing the story of Pokemon and the creators have made a cool storyline since the first game. We first had your basic RPG with some genetic engineering part of the story and your average bad guys. Then the story continues featuring new legendaries and expanding the story. Then there is a small twist to the story. The next generation featured the creation of the planet, or at least its land masses and oceans. Then the following generation features a lot more on the Pokemon universe and its creation. Now that the story has practically gone to the beginning, where would a 5th generation go to? Masamitsu Hidaka said that there would be 5th generation but it'll be a while before that happens.
I started playing around with the idea and came to some possible storylines.
- A Pokemon world set farther in the future.
- A Pokemon world set back in the past.
- A Pokemon world in chaos where a criminal organization runs the world and you have to save it.
- A Pokemon world set on another planet.
- A Pokemon world in a new region, same planet with simply new pokemon and your average bad guys.

Re: Where would the story go?
Me and my brother have been thinking of a Pokémon game set in the past. It would make an awesome plot twist right at the start and would spice up the series!
The future would be nice too, but I like the idea of the past better. I also like the idea of a choatic world where the player has to save the world, but it`s a little unoriginal.
Another planet would be... odd to say the least.
And finally we have the typical storyline, kid gets starter from Prof, kid collects every badge, kid stops an evil team, kid beats the E4, kid goes to a new part of the reigon...
One word sums this up nicely=OVERUSED!
So, yeah, my opinions. Another ideas might be
*Contest: Your charater is a co-ordinator instead of a trainer
I can`t think up anything more right now...
Mew, Meow, Nya

That may become a pokemon game but I don't think it would be the 5th generation game.

Re: Where would the story go?
Whatever the setting, you can bet that it's going to be the old "kid working for the professor" storyline. That's simply not going to change as long as Nintendo and GameFreak are around.
I think the best way to go with the story is back to basics. In R/B/Y & G/S/C, you were just doing what everyone else did - being a Pokemon trainer. Now in DPPt, you're somehow jumping from one dimension to another and saving the known world. It's just getting... ridiculous.
Pokemon doesn't need a fantastic/cliche RPG style save-the-world story. All anyone really cares about with Pokemon is the gameplay. It's not the right medium for storytelling.

Re: Where would the story go?
Pokemon isn't really played for the story, though it's still important because it drags you into the world to better your experience while playing it. The only exceptions tot his was Pokemon Colliseum and Pokemon XD, and in which, IMO, did a great job of doing. WHat I would like to see is...
Wi-fi compatibility for Super Contest and Contests in the 3D Pokemon games. Now that I think about it, I wonder (if they make it, that is) if the G/S/C remakes will have Super Contests?

The ones in blue should happen, but the one in red will most likely happen.
