Default How do TMs/HMs really work?

Of course, we all know that TMs/HMs are in the shape of CDs

But how exactly do they teach the Pokemon a specific move?

Do they insert the CD in some media player and the Pokemon sees how to do it?

I really have no idea ._.

My best guess would be that they eat them.. But that's from what I've seen in terms of FireRed/LeafGreen >_>

LOL eat them! I always imagined them to be Pokeball shaped and you just throw at a Pokemon and have it glow red for a moment and then BLEEP! Move learned!
Unfortunately after seeing their little disc icons I lost all clues about how the hell they work on Pokemon.

you play them on an disk and they say how you perform an move. they say it breaks after use, so that is one hint. and if you eat them, how can you use Hm's more times then?

The Pokemon might eat them or like the trainers break the CD's and mix them with the Pokemon food, and feed.

You "recover" them.
I think that TM's are a lot smaller than percieved, maybe the size of say, a 50 cent piece? The pokemon would swallow it, and it dissolves in their stomach, an programs into their brain. They break apart in the stomach, so they don't pass through the intenstinal track. HM's are more durable...

You put it on the Pokemon's head and it had tiny claws which dig into the skull. They do something with the Pokemon's brain patterns, et voila! New move learned.

At least, going from FR/LG, that's what I say xD

no, eating a cd doesnt seem.... right
id say that tms are like normal cds and you pop em into a dvd player and have the poke watch a tutorial on how to use the move
then the poke franchises, in order to make more money, design the cds to break after use

Now, I think it's this thing:

Before the CD thing, in a manga, Ash used a special box device over the Eevee of another trainers head, then his light went though and around it's head. Then, it learned Mimic.

I'm thinking, not with the CD's, that since the TM's came in a case in FR/LG, that they are stored and used in that square device. A slot maybe present to fit the TM/HM in, then the device opens, and a light of information passes through the brain of the Pokemon. Then they learn the move, TM comes out broken and dull.

I'm just putting two and two together here.

Never saw a Pokemon manga in Barnes&Nobles.

Probably, the Trainer might insert the TM CD into the PokeDex, and it might have options:
a. learn the move
b. store it
c. toss it

Well, on FR/LG they seem to stick the CDs to the Pokemons head.

So.. the CD emits some sort of electromagnetic wave directly into the Pokemons brain, causing it to learn the move. TMs break and 'use themselves up' after one use, while HMs are more expensive or made of a different material or are more highly concentrated, with enough electromagnetic waves for multiple uses?
