Has anyone seen "Electric Soldier Porygon"?
Has anyone seen "Electric Soldier Porygon"?
If so, did you survive... or did you have a seizure, go blind, have to go to the hospital or anything like that??
Cuz I read about the 385 people being sent to hospitals, but even so, I'm sooooo tempted to watch it!!! >.>
I even asked my mom to watch it with me (even after I read the thing to her) and she was like "I'm not gonna let my only child go blind"
So has anyone watched it and if so what happened and are you okay??

From Wikipedia:
Its episode 38, banned from being shown because of something that happened December 16, 1997 in Japan.
About 20 minutes into the episode, there was a scene in which Pikachu stops some rockets with his lightning attack, resulting in a huge explosion that flashed red and blue lights. Although there were similar parts in the episode with red and blue flashes, this scene was extremely intense, for these flashes were extremely bright strobe lights, with blinks at a rate of about 12 Hz for approximately 4 seconds in almost fullscreen, and then for 2 seconds outright fullscreen.
At this point, viewers started to complain of blurred vision, headaches, dizziness and nausea; in a sense, this might be considered a striking occurrence in actual reality of the literary trope known as the motif of harmful sensation. A few people even had seizures, blindness, convulsions and lost consciousness. Japan's Fire Defense Agency reported that a total of 685 children (310 boys, 375 girls) were taken to hospitals by ambulances. Although many children recovered during the ambulance trip, more than 150 of them were admitted to hospitals. Two people remained hospitalized for over 3 weeks.
Scientists believe that the flashing lights triggered photosensitive seizures in which visual stimuli such as flashing lights can cause altered consciousness. Although scientists know that approximately 1 in 4,000 people (0.5–0.8% of children between 5–13 years old) are susceptible to these types of seizures, the number of people affected by this Pokémon episode was unprecedented.
That's what happened XDD But I am still tempted to watch the episode!!!

It's not going to kill you. I've watched it 3 times and haven't gotten anything past a little headache. The reasoning for this is that the computer's resolution is lower than a television's. Plus most of the seizurees were standing about an inch from the TV. (gotta love those Japanese)

Re: Has anyone seen "Electric Soldier Porygon"?
I had the same question for my brother a couple of years ago, and he let me watch it on his video account. It won't kill you, but I think that they've edited any videos that there are of it so people don't get seizures.

Re: Has anyone seen "Electric Soldier Porygon"?
It's for about two to three seconds and it's just the screen flashing really fast between red and blue. Apparently, a bunch of people got seizures because of it, and it was banned. No edits, no cuts, just all-out banned.
Anyway, if you wanna see it, I'm sure it's on youtube or dailymotion somewhere.

Yeah, that made it kind of annoying, but there were sub titles at the bottom. Those seizure victims must have had their faces pressed to the television screen. That, or I'm photoresistant/bad eyesight/have bad computer screen resolution.

Re: Has anyone seen "Electric Soldier Porygon"?
I saw the slowed-down US version, but all it did was give me a headache. :/ Although, I can see how the original could give some people seizures.
