Oh because I thought there were no batteries in cartridges. They are all to big. Even the 1.5v ones are to big to fit in.

There are different types of batteries or cells (whatever you may call them).

This is what the batteries in the Gameboy cartridges look like:

I've never seen a battery like that. How many volts are they?

This one is just a 3 volt battery. Anything more will fry the game's circuit. These types of batteries are commonly found in watches so if you want to see one take apart one that doesn't work.

So there a 3v battery. That's basically two 1.5v batteries. Just how do you take the 3v battery out of the cartridge?

No, two 1.5v batteries won't make 3v; it will still equal 1.5v if I remember correctly from the two week electrical unit from grade 9 Science class that I took 5 years ago. I believe you need to add amplifiers to increase the voltage of a battery.

Read what Maza said, everything you need to know is in the guide found on the link provided.

tch... on the first post, i cant do that, not skilled enough and neither are my neighbors. ya see, my Pokemon Silver is acting up. I saved a new game, restarted, then it came up with mystery event, and all that other junk. The time was all different and i had the boxes on Type 8. When i saw the 8, it looked like a small Missingno on PKMN red. So i restarted again and my game was gone. (not like n e thing important was on it...) and also, when i shake the game, i can hear sumthing loose...

It is very easy to fix a game. Get your mom or more likely dad to help you and it should be very easy for them. Heck you could do it easily too, but you really have to watch out for the soldering iron as it will instantly cause a second degree burn on contact and they don't feel very fun.

Now regarding your game. I would be surprised if the battery was an issue. Dead/dying batteries usually affect the saved games or the clock. You could try replacing the battery but I doubt it will help . If you have an extra $2-5 hanging around for the battery and someone who is willing to fix it then it is worth a shot and if it doesn't work then your game is sadly as good as trash .

I also need to change battery to my Pokemon Gold. The only problem currently is, I don't know how to open the cartridge :D. I don't have any of the tools suggested in the first post (or it's links). So, any ideas how else I could open the cartridge (without damaging it of course!)?

Needle-nose pliers will do the trick. My Gold opened very easily compared to the two Crystals I've fixed. If yours is tight you really have to apply a LOT of pressure when unscrewing the cartridge. It took me many tries to get them open but they will loosen and open eventually. If you can't do it then your dad would be the best bet.

This may seem like a stupid question, but where might one find a soldering iron?

Might find one hanging around your house. Ask your mom or dad if they have one and there is a a good chance that they will. I got mine at Radio Shack but you can also get them at Home Depot, Wal-Mart and the like.

Ah, thank you. Hopefully we can go to Home Depot soon and buy one.
