Convieniently appearing cannons? Conveinient!
Char braced herself against the wind as Max crawled up to the crows' nest. Sticking with his plan, she looked around for the cannons he had mentioned. The wind buffeted her as she stumbled across the deck of the ship, but she was determined to do her part. But she wasn't seeing any cannons. Not among the coardboard props on the ship.
"Come on," she grumled as she watched Dreddicuno (lol, it works) glide through the storm. Where were they?
The thought suddenly struck her: this was little Max's imagination--but imagination had to start with belief. When children played, they truly had to believe that the stuff they were pretending was real. So, she had to believe that the cannons were there. The instant she realized this, and the instant she started believing that the cannons were there, she finally found one. Cardboard, of course, but it would work.
Fighting against the storm, Char wheeled out the cannon and started loading it up, just as Dredd started approaching the crowsnest. She could hear Max shouting derisively at the possessed bird, bold and fearless as ever. Using all her strength, Char aimed the cannon at Dredd...
When he was in range... She fired.
"Take that, birdbrain!" she shouted as the projectile flew, suddenly feeling childish. She stopped, amazed at herself. For a second, she had truely sounded like her younger self.
