It’s dark... It’s dark and wet and I’m cold... It’s icky here, I don’t like it... These thoughts occupied the being’s head for some time; going back and forth countless times between thoughts, complaining each time that their head was drenched and unpleasant.

Before their cycle of thoughts could keep repeating, the machinery in the room came to life. The equipment clanged and hissed, scaring the small being at first. Not having heard noise for so long, how could one blame them?

“It’s loud now, too,” the being said aloud quietly. However, they were shocked by how their own voice sounded, having not said much nor needing to. As the machinery continued on, the air of their location became warmer and, generally, more pleasant. “Yay, it’s warmer, it’s warmer!” The being cried happily, moving in search of a better source of warmth.

However, as the being moved on in the dark, the mystery of where they were became apparent; having been in the dark for so long without any noise or another soul around, the being thought that this was all that existed.

...And then the power cut out once more, the overwhelming feeling of cold coming back stronger than before.

“I miss being warm.”
