As fragile as human life is, and as easy as it is to extinguish, not having guns would not really help, and it would actually humor me if they tried to take the guns by force. Most people that are of age already have guns if they plan to acquire them, so there could still be Civil War with guns.
I also read an article recently. It actually has a graph made by some government agency that I don't remember the name of. The graph shows the increase of media violence vs. the decrease of physical violence. This article was published in 2007, so it isn't the most recent example.
