The Remnant Muse

I used to sing
Beneath the sun
The melody flowing
Rhythm unrolling
Round and round the pure blue air
Until my joy caught on like fire

I used to dance
Above the grass
Red shoes glinting
Twirl and beating
Leaping and soaring with the earth
Until as one our worlds did turn

The sun hid face
Air loss luster
As grey crept in
And mocked the earth
Bitter tears of rain put out the fire
Until its light became as night

The song faltered
The dance stumbled
Not but a memory now remains
Of a summer day rich with music
And the ruby shoes alight with soul
