You duck into a nearby building to avoid being seen and attacked by the Pidove, not wanting to waste any time on such insignificant prey. You explore the building for a while, before finding something much more worthy of your attention. A beige-coloured fox, standing upright and holding two shiny metal spoons in his hands looks up at you and shuffles away from the food he was eating. He closes his eyes momentarily and then looks at you piercingly Ė he knows that you want to capture it, but heís not going to go down without a fight.

Before you can start attacking him, he closes his eyes and begins to focus his psychic energy, ready for the battle ahead. By doing this, he hopes to increase his offensive and defensive capabilities so that he can perform as well as possible. Whether it will work or not will come later, when your Chandelure gets his own first move sorted.

Vanity draws in shadows from the corners of the poorly-lit room, creating a veil of darkness around his body. The black energy hums as it is forced into a small sphere and thrown violently across the room. Alakazam lifts a spoon as if to try and defend himself, but whatever he was trying was too slow; the attack sends him spinning to the ground, where he hits his head badly. Nevertheless, he is soon back on his feet and ready to continue.

However, he knows he canít get hit by that too many times: he needs some sort of block. The idea comes into his mind quickly, and he grins at its sheer wickedness. Reaching out with his mind, he breaks into Vanityís memory and moves quickly through it to find what he needs. It doesnít take him long to find the memories of the move he needs to stop, and once itís found itís not difficult to put up a mental barrier around it. Then the fox is back in his own body, knowing that heís not going to get caught with that trick for a while.

Meanwhile, Vanity, although sensing that something is wrong, is getting ready her next attack. A chain of white light stretches out from her main candle and attaches itself to Alakazamís left shoulder. The fox looks at it for a moment and then realises what was going on Ė just as the pain begins to flare up. The pain that has been afflicting Chandelure for a while begins to ebb away across the rope of energy, where Alakazam feels it and it makes him breathe heavily. A pained look spreads across his face, and he begins to think for the first time about resorting to actual violence.

A blue glow surrounds his spoons and he points them at Vanity: the same blue glow envelops the spectre, making him appear even more ghostly. Then, with a twitch of his spoons, Alakazam throws the Chandelure into the nearest wall. This is enough to make him groan a little, but the fox isnít finished yet. The ghost is tossed across the room carelessly and then knocked to the floor, where he gets left for a little while before being picked up again and smashed into a table. It is only then that Alakazam releases his hold on the phantom, allowing the blue glow to fade away.

Vanity picks his way out of the collapsed table Ė his whole body was in pain right now, but heís unable to retaliate. For some reason, he canít remember how to perform the move you ordered him to. It is now that the curse with which he has been inflicted decides to strike. A bellow of pain erupts from your pokťmonís lungs, filling the whole room. He has been badly damaged by now, and wonít be able to last much longer unless something it done quickly.
