I recall being convinced that the Gameboy battery had ran out when a Pokemon in my party was poisoned. I think I thought the flashing screen meant it didn't have enough power to display the entire graphics. :x
Wasted a lot of AA batteries battling Weedles with Poison Sting in Viridian Forest. >:
